Bob is an uninformed jackass. My instructor would jump all over me if I ignored the obvious road in a simulated forced landing. A road is generally a Godsend when the props stop.
My first wife (of french descent) survived a plane crash in 1990 in a Cessna 172 which killed her parents and 2 sisters. They were high up over mountains in South Africa and there was nowhere to land flat and it all went wrong. This guy wasn't wrong to land on the highway as had my wife's father had one to land on they'd all be alive. Don't comment on this video unless you have experienced REAL life regarding life and death in a plane.
great job. except for the part where you landed on a road. Correct procedure is to land in the perfectly good field to the right of the road. But glad it all worked out.
@HeinzTheBean Landing on a road is only not recommended. Some pilots would say not to do it while others will. The main danger is wires that you can't see.
Lâchez-pas, c'était sweet et vous vous en êtes sortis indemnes ;) Et l'avion aussi! <- Dans mon livre c'est un landing excellent ;) juste... loin de la maison!
Hi! Great job, all respect for the pilot! I'm wondering about why did you choose the motorway? (As I can see there were fields on both side of the road.) In our country we also have motorways and wide roads but I was instructed to avoid them and it should only be the last-last-last option. NO disrespect, just curious! Safe landings!
@nullakilenc In an emergency the BEST option should be used. The roadway was relatively flat and straight with no wires overhead. The fields, especially in Quebec would probably have been so muddy they would have flipped. In the US and Canada it is taught to utilize any available space to land and a wide roadway is taught to be truly ideal. You will pass over vehicles, giving them a glimpse of you and causing them to slow down, as you flare for landing you slow so the cars ahead keep going.
I Mean... are these 3 pepole IDIOTS? sorry but i think they are assholes!!!
aniway Great job man, Greate JOB!!! you saved the lives of your passengers, and the lives of those on the ground... all emergencies/incidents even the smalest ones should be taken seriuosuly... and you showed a proper way to handle a big problem, a dead engines is a very serious thing... Congrats men!
I hope tha me, and every pilot could react like you in a situation like that.
@FsxCaptainLukas because its better to land on a surface like a runway(if possible) or a roadway or parking lot, because 1st its easier on the plane, 2nd its easier to recover, 3rd you never truly know what the condition of the surface is under the grass..
@piloty5 Well, this sure depends on the country you fly. I'm a pilot myself (Only SEP) and here in switzerland, a pilot should avoid to land on a street or highway whenever it is possible. Our streets are full of cars an there are road signs, light posts, trees, cables, bridges and corners everywhere around streets.
But we do have many even and (mostly...) dry fields. So in siwtzerland for example, a field is the better option.
@MrLowAltitude true, but if you had a choice, the road/parking lot would cost the same in fines/recovery costs as the field. and if you land on the roadway its just a little bit easier to clean up
@piloty5 Yep, thats true. If i really had a choice, I would take a concrete place too ;-)
But where I fly (LSZG - Grenchen, Switzerland), there are only very few roard where you could land on. We don't have wide and long roads like you americans have... Sadly!
but i think you are a experienced pilot with maybe 10 Years ore more experience. And he is just mhm maybe 20 - 30 years old. A field is a hard, dangerous runway, but a highway is like a real runway, and so, its better for him to land on the highway
Great Job! Any landing you can walk away from is a good one, one in which they can use the plane again is a GREAT JOB! So what was the cause of the engine failure? Since your up north and I see clouds I am guessing Carb ice possibly?
excellent atterrisage d'urgence, bon timing qu'il y avait une grosse piste d'atterrissage pas loin ( la 10 ), excellent réflexe du passager qui a filmé le tout, c'est pas tout le monde aurait pensé sortir sa camera
walked away, and no damage to the A/C, or property, fine job if you ask me.

Great landing! I wonder what all those cars were thinking! Nxt time tho, keep the camera above the dashboard so we don't see all white.
Lucky there weren't wires! Or else yo probably would be dead or seriously injused from a wire strike! Perfect landing tho!
