Return in mercy to Yerushalayim your city, and dwell in as You had promised long ago. Rebuild it hastily in our day as an immortal monument for generations, and found in it the golden throne of David. Hear our voice, Ad*nai Elokeinu; pardon and have compassion on us. Accept our plea with mercy and kindness, for you are a G*d who hears prayers and lamentations. O our King, do not turn us away empty-handed, for you hear the love of your people Yisrael with compassion. Amen. Shanah Tova by the way!
By the waters of Bavel we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. On the sleeping willows there we affixed our lyres, when our captors asked of us to "Sing of the songs of Tzion!" How can we sing the songs of Ad*nai in a cold alien land? If I dare forget you, O Yerushalayim, may my right hand forget all its skill. May my tongue forget how to speak words, if I do not remember you, if I do not consider you my greatest joy, O Yerushalayim. Amen
I think music is universal, if you are not "jewish" (sorry for my english I'm french ^^'), it doesn't matter, just listen to the music, she's beautiful, and enjoy ! Very great song !
god does this bring back memories.....[sigh]...this song reminds me about my summer camp, when everyone in the van used to sing this song, god do i miss those times.....[sigh]......and i luv this song soooo much!!!
@Overlordxoz ......brother u dont have to be a jewish to understand the pains in history......the song is just about the pains suffered by the jewish after being banished from their own country
I went to Jerusalem in June 2008, by God's Providence, while there I bought a ring on Ben Yahuda street made by a famous Jewler "em Eshkachech Yerushalaim, Tishkach Yemini" That is the Hebrew for Psalm 137:5 If I forget Thee Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its cunning." I am studying Hebrew at a free site that has sound, Hebrew 4 Christians, it starts as simple as the alphabet and goes through the Tenach.
I love the site blog that tells of the upcoming holidays and Shabbat. Cool Video Jam'n
this song represents so much for me, as someone who just returned from a month in the great state of Israel. the group i traveled with listened to this song frequently, and so it reminds me of them and the bonds we created together in the city of Jerusalem. Matisyahu was a genius as Hashem gave him musical talent.
This song became a sort of "theme song" for the Israel Experience group that I was a part of in June and July, we ended up playing it a lot in the bus as our group reunited for the last five days of our trip to go to Jerusalem.
@Anton017 those are very moving verses. i believe they're referencing to the holocaust, when jews were burned in the ovens of the death camps and choked to death in the gas chambers. its a really sad thing, how far humans will go for hate.
@JBAmadeus That is very, very sad, we all are humans and humans are all the same right? So its very sad that Jewish people were burned in ovens of the death camps and choked to death in the gas chambers.
@JBAmadeus ....its not about the holocaust...its about the state of the jewwish people when they were banished from their country of ancient judea by the then syrian king 3000 years ago....so the jewish ppl wandered from state to state...but there was a prophecy made that the ppl would come back to their home in judea(modern day israel).....so the song is about keeping the faith in the prophecy (not to forget jerusalem.....and if they forget then their skillled right hand would would loose it )
Blessed be He and Blessed be His Holy Name, From the Holy Mount let us Shout the Praises of One True El of Israel, If I forget the oh Yerushalem may my Tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, that is like a man in the desert parched and ready to die , so may my life force leave me if I forget thee O Yerushalem
I see.. I've been thinkin about the right hand left hand thing lately.. I find it interesting however, that the right hemisphere of your brain controls the left side of your body.
In the Torah, and the Books of the Prophets ( Navi, to all my fellow jews :P) The right hand was the more important hand because most of the people were right handed. The right hand is a symbol of strength. There is a line that says if you forget Jerusalem, your right hand should forget it's purpose, your every day routine.
The scanning panoramas, well-selected images, large clear lyrics in the vid, other set of lyrics in the sidebar...you went all out, just super..faved & Top Faved, thanks!

Perticularly, I enjoy two verses.
".... Burn in the oven in this century And the gas tried to choke, but it couldn't choke me ...."
".... Aint no one gonna break my stride Aint no one gonna pull me down Oh no, I got to keep on moving Stay alive ...."
I have a plan to present another song for Jerusalem.

What does he mean by "let my right hand forget what its supposed to do"?
dtewis 2 years ago
Generally, people use right hand and its important for our daily routine. If we forget Jerusalem, it is equal to forget everything.
It is a Bible script from Psalm 137:5
