  • i dont think any bands will be able to recreate this sort of power we saw in the 80's (well not 'we' im only 20 ;p) nowadays.

but at least bands such as tool, radiohead, deftones are keeping imagination in music alive :)

  • @MrMerlin87 It would be great if such bands today were allowed to come

through, I like creativeness and originality, its sad when bands all look and

sound the same, your right their are still great bands today, love all those

Both Will Heggie and Robin had an amazing sound between them.

  • @shum65 Garlands has been one of my all time favorite CT albums, and I own all of them! :) I bought Garlands back in 83-84 when I was a very young lad!

  • @aaronquy1968 You sound like me m8, I treasure all my vinyl Lps

Later in 1983 in Düsseldorf in the Ratinger Tor.

One of the best Bands of the eighties

  • @klarus01 Ah OMD, another class band...your so right my friend,

The Cocteau's are a truly amazing band, just love this track too.

You were so lucky to see them live back in the day, its great to hear

  • IF YOULIKE THIS LISTEN TOO SOUIXSIE AND THE BANSHEES KALIEDESCOPE...THE TWO GO HAND IN HAND,OLD SKOOL 80'S HEROIN

  • @ihithardfrom95 Cheers my friend, I too have "Kaleidoscope" by

the fab S.A.T.B, I,ve been a big fan for some time,

Its great to hear from you m8.....have a top weekend....!!! :-)

  • @shum65 ;) As said, great albums...great music.

  • The 80s were the last decade of great, truly MAJESTIC, DIVINE pop music. So promising those years and after that the gods abandoned us and we got crap music instead (hip-hop, techno, etc). Very strange: it seemed to coincide with the disapperance of VYNIL/ANALOG recording and the invasion of DIGITAL. DIGITAL KILLED THE MUSIC. 10101011 doesn't equal REAL, EMOTIVE ANALOG SOUND! Those of you that are getting emotional on hearing this music surely have heard it before in analog. That's cell memory!

  • @AnaKosta Hi There, I love the deep rich sounds of vinyl, still got all mine, I so understand what your saying, about the way the music business has changed today, at one time it was a really big deal to get to no1 in the charts, but now, who cares...?

their are many excellent bands today still, but sadly as far as the charts

go, you only need the one sound, no more is the totally individual

artists, with their own sounds and look, maybe they will return in time...?

    Thanks my friend,,!!

  • No music like that anymore. No voices like that anymore. No lyrics like that anymore.

    Shit shit shit

  • @alienCascais Cheers m8, I know what you mean, just love all their

Garlands songs, pure classics....we sure could do with more like these.

Good to hear from ya alienCascais......!!!

  • @shum65 Hi! I see i'm not alone... :) What are you listen nowadays? ;) I'm curious... Kisses from Portugal

  • @alienCascais Hi their, your certainly not alone my friend.....!!

I listen to lots of music all the time from the past and present.

I,m still listening a lot to Cocteau Twins with making videos for

their amazing music, Kisses back to you from the UK....!!!

  • Ahhhh man! You've done it again! Exceptional. One of the most powerful songs in my life and the quality listening to it and watching the video with headphones on is trancendental. Are you a god in disguise, shum65? Can he do it? Yes he can!!

  • @ritchiepeyton Now thats a massive compliment my friend,

your so right about this awesome track, it gives you goosebumps,

I,ve heard from the mighty Will Heggie who played on this track,

his bass is legendary, a top guy...now as for gods, then its the band-

thats the gods, creating this heavenly music for us all to enjoy.

Loved your comments ritchie my friend..many thanx......!!!!

  • Just as good as I remember it. Thanks for posting.

  • @bazzaah Your very welcome my friend, its a classic for sure,

I,ve been in touch with the brilliant Will Heggie, he loved his time

with The Cocteaus during their Garlands period, what a fantastic

Base player he is, and a top guy too....Cheers bazzaah.....!!!

  • why is this band not so recognized? I mean they have depth, acid guitars, they have some serious hipnotizing melodies, this leaves you with some sens of melancholy & despair, I mean lots of people could relate to this & actually love this band, how come this band is not like a bauhaus or a joy division or like the cure? I can see some sort of conection between them sounds...

  • @bloodzombite Hi their, your so right my friend, they only got their

first award some 12 years after they split, such a disgrace, but they

have a loyal following still all over the world, but they should and

so deserve much much more, this was from their first album,

back in 1982 called "Garlands" its a classic, checkout the rest of

my videos to this amazing album, good to hear from you my friend.

  • @bloodzombite - I'm not sure why you think this. I, and many, many of my peers who are around 40 years of age absolutely feel that the Cocteaus are right up there with Bauhaus, Joy Division, the Cure, et al. I've never thought of them as a lesser known band by those who care about music of this genre. Perhaps the younger generation feels this way? That's a shame, if so.

  • @bloodzombite In my eyes, they have as much recognition. Then again, perhaps they didn't "market" as much.

  • I listened to this album 1 billion times and more since almost 20 years (waw, saying this seems just amazing to me!)

  • I listened to this album 1 billion times and more since almost 20 years (waw, saying this seems just amazing to me!)

  • @larsenvisuel Cheers m8, its a classic album your so right,

and still my fave by the Cocteaus, Will Heggie is so proud of

this album and his time with the band, hes a top bloke.....!!

Keep on enjoying this iconic band my friend.....

  • Shum,

This was the first Cocteau song I ever heard. I was a senior in high school,on

the campus with this in my "Walkman". That same year I went to see U2 open for

    J. Geils Band. I was only interested in U2. Can you believe when U2 opened the

audience actually booed! So having booed for U2 at the time can you imagine

how an American audience would have received the post punk brilliance of Cocteau 1982. Answer, not well my friend! What a different world we live in

    today!

  • @blainebill39 Hi Blaine, and what a first song to hear by them,

just love that menacing guitar as it aches throughout the song,

gives me goosebumps still, Wow U2 getting booed, its funny

but today I get lots of messages from the States, the Cocteaus have

really gained a loyal following in the USA, and south America too.

They all sure know great music when they hear it my friend.....!!!

  • brilliant this!

  • @AnnaTuinman Glad you enjoyed this amazing track my friend,

have you checked out the rest of the "Garlands" album...

Good to hear from you Anna....!!!

  • Yeah that was a great time in my life, the music back then was a great way to escape the dreadful teenage life. the music now sucks hind teet compared to back then!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jadengambam Hi mate, the music was all so different, and every

band had their own sound and image, your so right about it being

a great escape back then, maybe were just getting a bit old..ha-ha..

Good to hear from ya m8......

  • 1988, vaction in jamaica with my dad, pocket full of cash, hedonism, two beautiful girls, first drink, night sky full of stars, walkman, cocteau twins this song, a whole bag of shrooms...........................never will forget...................STARS IN MY EYES STARS AT MY FEET... at least thats what went thru my head over and over and over..

  • @jadengambam Hi my friend, you sure have amazing memories

of this classic track, wished Id been their with ya, sounds brill...

Ah, the good times for sure m8.......!!!

  • timeless brilliance...............

  • @TheScott127 Cheers my friend, perfectly said......!!!

  • I haven't heard this track for at least 15 years, still hits me deep inside, I guess I ought them, the cure, and bauhaus for those naive early years of my life when I began composing music. All my love and respect for those who inspired us and changed us forever.

  • @pabloslam Hi my friend, brilliantly said, I so agree with you......!!!

I was seriously influenced by the Cocteaus in my own vocals and music also..

    Cheers pabloslam......

  • Oh man.. what to say here.. pure magic for all those years

  • Hi mate...I totally agree with you....!!

Its all pure magic, and class.....

    Thanx erengie....!!!

  • winged water

    feathered river

    dirty rich soil

    strong and fertile

  • Cheers sibeliandrift.....awesome lyrics..!!!!

  • Garlands is by far my favorite Cocteau Twins album. Good job on the vids.

  • Hi chasingparkedcars...cool name.!!!

Yeah, I love "Garlands" too...pure class..!!

Will Heggie is a top bloke too, giving all

    the early Cocteau's music,that backbone,

    along with Liz's iconic vocals....

Glad your enjoying the videos my friend..!!

    Have a top weekend chasing....

  • Thanks! I heard Liz was only 17 when this was recorded??

    Have a great weekend too!

  • Hi mate, yeah Liz must have been around

17 at the time..cool or what....!!!

    Cheers chasing....!!!

  • Oh, and by the way:

To Shum65: these videos are really fine: really in the mood, though...if i may say: i would have liked them a bit more... varied...

    Good work though.

    Thanks

    W.

  • Meaning no harm or disagreement of course!

I'm no english speaker, so i may be harsch sometimes.

I really do love the vids...

    ...my friend.

    W.

  • No problem my friend, your English is very

    good...!!!!

    I much appreciate your comments....!!!

    Best Wishes to ya whalefin.......

  • Hi whalefin....many thanx my friend...

I take your point, its really good to hear

from you, I guess I wanted to create a bit

of a theme for my videos to the "Garlands"

album, so they would interconnect to one-

another, with similar scenes from time to

time...but I understand what your saying.

Great to have your input my friend....!!!

  • quite the poet isn't she.

  • Hi mate.Liz certainly has a way with words

    Happy 2010 my friend....!!

  • Indeed she is. Definitely.

  • Hi Whalefin, Liz is hugely talented indeed

    I so agree my friend....!!!

  • I meant there's something utterly otherworldly about her singing and "words" (when there are such things like "words" in her vocals).

    That's poetry.

  • Otherworldly is a perfect description....!!!

I love the unique sound and emotion that

her vocals exhume.words are not needed

    for me personally....

Good to hear from ya my friend.....!!!

  • Salute!

I agree. I was just going to say that.

I hope you've produced any of your vids for them? Of course, if you had permission to do these and this all Cocteau thread that Is sooo cool man.

  • Cheers mate...I,ve had such fun doing all

these videos.....Simon from the band was

really great...he thanked me for doing all the videos, and for introducing a whole

new generation to their music....so cool.!!

    Hes a really great bloke....!!!

  • thanks a lot Shum. You do really good work here with the Cocteau Twins. I'm soooooo grateful to you for putting together such quality videos.

  • Awesome comments mate..many thanks!!

I,m really pleased your enjoying my videos

    to these classic Cocteau's tracks...

I much appreciate your support my friend,

    Have a Merry Christmas rosscowilcox..!!!!

  • Oh, and by the way, those videos you made of the Cocteaus are really, really good! It's rare find talents like yours these days. Keep doing it the way you've been doing it. Try to work in some Dead can dance, some of their really early stuff, that'd be way cool! have a good one!

  • Cheers mate, your very kind...!!!

I,m pleased your enjoying my videos,

funnily enough, I,ve included snippets of

DCD and Lisa,s videos, in some of my own earlier ones..lost track of which ones

    they were now..?

Thanx mate, great hearing from ya..!!!!

  • Yeah, Bella Union was, or still is Robyn and Simon's record label post cocteau twins label.

That's pretty cool that you made conversation with Simon Raymonde! That almost adds an extra topping to the already splendid ice-cream sundae so to speak! The band 'Celebration' I mentioned isn't on the Bella Union Label, I was just throwing them out there because there are certain elements similar to Liz's voice, but they are one of the more modern-day good ones for sure.

  • Hi smack mate...yeah a friend of mine got

intouch with him via his web site, asking

for him to help me,coz my videos were all

    getting blocked by WMG...

It was awesome for me when he got back

intouch wanting to know what was wrong,

we had a good chat, he thanked me for all

my videos, and introducing their music to

    a new generation of fans...

    I was damned chuffed...ha-ha.!!!

  • Yeah, I have stumbled upon some rare ones here and there. It's always a nice little find when you do happen to catch one of their more obscure videos. There was a band, "Lift to Experience" that put out a couple albums under Bella Union, pretty good. They were from Denton, TX. Worth checking out if you haven't already. The band Celebration is one of my new favorites for the past couple years now, also very, very good too.

  • Hi mate, I,ll checkout those two bands you

mentioned, Bella Union, wasn't that the

label the Cocteau's set up themselves.?

I,ve talked with Simon Raymonde earlier

this year, he was very helpful to me about

    my videos,,great bloke...!!!

    Cheers smacktalker....!!

  • Did the cocteau twins make any actual videos for Garlands? I've always wondered that, but guess I would've found out about it by now, such a great album!!

  • Hi mate...as far as I,m aware they never

made any videos back then to any of the

"Garlands" tracks, other than live footage,

in concerts, but I may be wrong, thats one

of the reasons I started to make my own

    videos to their music....

Thanks smacktalker1,good 2 hear from ya

  • Love the drum machine too. Makes it (ex)static. But anyways! Does anybody know who the director of the video-clips was?

  • Hi mate...I used clips from Cocteau Twins

own videos, plus some from this Mortal-

Coil, then others from footage I thought fitted with this amazing song, then put all of them together, I guess the director is

the one doing the original CT videos...

I really like that hard hitting drum machine

it gives these early tracks that edge...

    Thanx mate.....!!!

  • Hi mate..that was a trade mark in the early days, the drum machine, but later on

they used a real drummer in the studio,

    and for live gigs...

    Cheers saberbazer....!!

  • Great great great job Shum65 -- I will send you some music in a few weeks from my band and hope that you will like it to say thanks for this great post!

    Brook

    from

    Hawks and Sparrows

  • Hi Brook, great to hear from ya mate...

Its an amazing track this,so dark and has

    an air of menace too...

    my friend....thanks for that...!!

Take it easy Brook.....good 2 hear from ya.
