  • maybe slayer is untouchable in the existing big4...but kicking anthrax is like ripping speed from thrash metal..i am aware anthrax has had its flaws..but no denying they are a corner stone to what thrash sounds today..

  • James Murphy!!

  • Story of my career.. camera people NEVER put the shot on me when i'm soloing... i'm always totally off-screen during them until more than half way through.. usually not at al all, lol. If i had $5 for every video i have that i'm barely in, i could retire, ha ha..

  • I would take Anthrax out of the big 4 just because of that rap shit they went into. It should be Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, and Slayer.

  • the big four for be, must be.... EXODUS, TESTAMENT, MEGADETH and SLAYER

  • Not enough James Murphy in this video

  • big 5 anthrax,testament,slayer,megadeth and suicidal tendencies...

  • legendary group!

  • This is the best Testament song ever released

  • This is the best Testement song ever released

  • Dimbag is you?

  • the big four must be:

    Testament,Slayer,Exodus and Overkill

i like the other ones, but these are the most brutal!

  • This is fucking insane!!!!

  • If the universe were just, Testament would replace fucking anthrax in the "big 4".

  • @tekubus

yes!! and Slayer too..Testament are one of the big four

  • BIG FOUR : METALLICA .SLAYER .MEGADEATH. TESTAMENT

  • @TheLittleguitar taking anthrax out? crazy man? i would agree with big five, dont take anthrax out dude, anthrax is a better band and with more presence of stage than all the other bands in big four!!!

and my favourite band is megadeth, but anthrax is just amazing!!

  • @TheLittleguitar man, u trying to add DT to a big four of THRASH?? where is the THRASH in DT? REALLY?!

  • @harryex2006 it just my opinion ^^

  • No Skonick=No Testament

  • @MrNeosantana James Murphy is no joke though. He has more metal credentials than Skolnick and he has a couple of guitar solo albums under his belt. He's definitely capable. Testament has a live album with him where plays Skolnick's solo's almost note for note.

  • how about a new Big 4 with Testament, Overkill, Metal Church, and Exodus?

  • @unclep1971 Great bands; but if we are talking "new" and being relevent, I'd say the New Big Four are:

    1. Mastodon

    2. Opeth

    3. Amon Amarth

    4. Arch Enemy

No surprise, 3 out of the 4 are Scandinavinan (Sweden more precise). The best metal is coming out of the Scandinavian Penninsula; it's were I'd like to move to, but I hear it's really hard to be an American and become a citizen of Sweden, Norway, Finland, or Denmark.

  • @j1001s27sw I should have said 'another', better Big Four and keeping with the old school theme since they were also there close to the beginning. For the newer bands I'd have to add 'Lamb of God' and 'Children of Bodom' in there somewhere. I do like the 4 you listed.

  • @unclep1971 LOG and COB are not my faves, but they are for many newer fans and are responsible for the rebirth of metal making it popular now. You can add Machine Head in there and, reluctantly, Slipknot. I'm not any fan of SK and I really don't know any song they've done, but a lot of younger fans like them and they have been key in re-igniting heavy music. Even Trivium and Job 4a Cowboy help carry the flag. Not a big fan, but they've appealed to young fans which is important. Stay Metal!!!

  • @j1001s27sw very true...

  • @j1001s27sw Is that by popularity or quality?

  • @theDjh101 To me, all four are both (quality and popular). However, as far as relevence and getting a new generation of kids interested in metal across the globe; these 4 seem to be the best. . As a free thinking metal head (as most of us are) this is my observation only.

  • @theDjh101

if you are popular it's because you maide something with a great quality

  • @TheMaiden41 Skrillex, Bring Me the Horizon, Lady Gaga, Rebecca Black, Justin Bieber.

  • @theDjh101

I was speaking about bands from the 80s like Metallica...

    (exellent comment guy xD )

  • @unclep1971 lol, overkill

  • chuck is da man

  • testament is the best underrated band ever

  • No dis to Anthrax but...Testament should either replace them or be included in teh big fower

  • @tehgrim08

I think, and of course this is just my opinion, that Slayer should be replaced by Testament. Lyrically, Slayer is god awful, and I'm sorry to the Slayer fans, but there is just way to much open E as well. Speed isn't everything. Anthrax brings energy to the table, with their great music.

  • @Csbbb well, it is your opinion.

  • wow..found several people who thinks alike here..

me too..im growing up listening to thrash metal especially the bay area side

and sure im listening to metallica as well..

but as time flies..i stopped listening to them ever since the black album..

i seriously cant find any good songs to listen to their new albums..

last month i tried to listen to death magnetic..but again..

it was not the metallica i once knew..

as for testament...they were like wine..the older the better..

  • @placeboeffecto ...you nailed it man.....exactly what i was thinking...and im in my forties....after black , metallica went somewhere...testament stayed and showed us what it meant............

  • @bingowingz70

thanks man...i guess that era of 80's - 90's were our golden moments of thrash generation..

don't you wish we all could experienced the same feelings of excitement again...lol

i still could remember the time when i was a kid listening to kill em all album

and played it in my dad car..he was screaming mad and turn down the volume..

anyway thanks to some bay area bands man..

testament, death angel, forbidden, exodus still rocking..

but no doubts testament were sick..they rules\m/

  • AFF, vão se foder. To all of you assholes, just shut the fuck up and face life. Testament is awesome unfortunately is not as famous as Metallica or Pantera, Megadeth, AND IF YOU ARE IN A BAND AND YOU DON'T WANT MONEY, go play cover shows in a bar every friday night ;] you get it? Musician is a work, they are doing their work, they don't need to care to what any of you think. jajaja. Fucking faggots.

  • FUK YAH JAMES MURPHY!!!!

  • James Murphy Disincarnate, Death ........

  • The Big Four Bands must be:

    Megadeth, Testament, Slayer and Metallica...

  • @Aloywas No fuckin' way Anthrax is insane. In my opinion they are so much more unique than any of the other big four bands. They're the only one with a full time frontman and joey has a mean falsetto.

  • @Aloywas ikr fuck anthrax they dont deserve to be in the big 4

  • @Aloywas whats wrong with Anthrax? i like them more than slayer or metallica in some cases even. They shouldnt be cast out it should just be the big five!

  • @Aloywas Metallica off,Kreator on

  • @Aloywas yeah men must be

  • To those that say Testament copied Metallica: Testament were around 2 years before Metallica even entered the Bay Area thrash scene and their style hasn't changed much since they started.

  • @twistedrock Actually, Legacy formed in 1983 by Eric and his cousin. Metallica formed in 1981.

  • Peterson is awesome

  • damn good

    damn shitty sound quality though

  • please do us Testament fans love every second..

  • Metallica lovers can kiss my ass! Testament held true to metal. When metallica made it through, they slammed the door behined them. Fuck them! I'm so thankful for bands like Testament, Exodus, Slayer, and Megadeth. These guys are the real pioneers of metal. Not SHITALLICA.

  • @axmanjim you're 32 years old but acting like you were 12 years teenager, WTF ?

  • @axmanjim Just because Metallica veered off from their roots, doesn't mean they weren't pioneers.

  • @axmanjim THANKY YOU finally somebody agrees

  • I just discovered this song today. It's breath taking. But the arguments over metallica, testament, megadeth, anthrax, etc... Need to stop. All of them are great bands. Metallica, however is in my opinion, the best band of all time. I don't care if you think they sold out, because they didn't. They did what they had to to remain sane as a band. Every single album does wonders for me(yes, even st. Anger). My favorite is ride the lightning. By miles. But death magnetic put them on top of the thr

  • I'm in love with this song atleast 13 years now ... really ;)

  • lol, always i see the word "METALLICA" in Testament videos, stop QQ guys and just njoy the best songs...

  • No other band deserves moore than MetallicA... master, ride, kill, ..and justice, black load, reload, st.anger(riffs), magnetic, why you dont see this? Testament is great anyway no complain. And Return To Serenity is one of greatest songs ever! WHO CARES THAT SOMEONE HAS GOT BETTER OR WORSE OVER YEARS? How that can be argument? .. And im telling You in future years there will rise a thrash band that will crush with riffs. Dont believe? just wait.

  • Si, estoy totalmente de acuerdo con k subas mas videos

  • PHASER AND DELAY FTW!!!

  • Shit man, Chuck is fuckin' thin! He really let himself go lol.

I love this shit man, best thrash metal band there is in my opinion.

  • @iSYCOTiiC Chuck has had medical issues in the past due to germ cell seminoma (a rare form of cancer), which with chemotherapy treatments and so on, i'm sure has something to do with his weight fluctuations.

  • James Murphy! \m/

  • Great video! Nice to see classic live and up close Testament without the huge stage and massive audience as it gives us a perspective of the band we typically don't get to see. Very cool stuff. Thanks for sharing this video with us all!

  • MarshallATV (Absolutely shite amp btw)

You're wrong. Simple as. Metallica released imo only 1 truly great album. Testament have atleast 2, both of which destroy kill em all.

  • Testament and megadeath doesn't kick Metallica's ass at all.... Any retard saying that should be shot on an open street! The numbers of fans says it all, testament or megadeath will never ever be able to do what metallica has already done. And the best part of it all is that it's true and a fucking fact and YOU retards can't do anything about it xD "Laughing my ass off" xD Oh yeah..... again..... METALLICA KILL'S EM' ALL!!!

  • So, by your "number of fans" logic, The Jonas Brothers kick some serious ass, huh? A large fanbase doesn't imply that one band is better than another. That is the way an ignorant commercial-beaten tool would think.

    Not sayin....just sayin.

  • @foldedeggs Yeah but if you can achieve a huge fan base by staying underground like metallica did up until and justice besides the One video then id say you could use it as a tool for judging "the Better band" most of its personal opinion really though unless your comparing testament to the jonas fags.. Man there shit sucks major ass

  • @kianneedsalife Testament stayed underground, and are still kicking as much ass as ever. So are Megadeth. Metallica is the band of the "big 3" bay area thrashers that are being rightly ridiculed for their greedy, arrogant and foolish attitudes toward their music and their fans. They stayed underground to a degree till Cliff died, then it became Metallica, Inc. They just happened to have one more decent album in them with Justice. And I don't want to hear about that crappy "Black Album." It sucks

  • Metallica are a fucking cliche and your just another moronic fanboy, oh, and this is a TESTAMENT video, so shut up about one of the biggest sell-outs ever.. *sigh* >.>

  • i value your opinion. i do like Metallica, Megadeth and Testament. Each are totally different sounds - lyrics and focus. Metallica made it big based on slowing down on some songs and one hell of a producer and record contract. You see the same way Mustaine took Megadeth down a notch to get huge radio and MTV play with albums like Countdown to Extinction and Cryptic Writings. And they finally made more mainstream rock fans as a result. My opinion -Megadeth is more talented - but I like all them!

  • @MarshallATV You really judge how great a band is by how many fans they have? Thats some funny shit. So to you Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Backstreet Boys or any other shitty commercial group that Mtv force feeds down your throat are great bands too right. LMAO thats ignorant retarted logic. Hey im a Metallica fan too but face it there sell outs thats how they got all those fans.

  • This is an awesome video. Too bad the camera man screwed up and missed filming half of James Murphy's amazing solo. Testament are just incredible plugged or unplugged.

  • A great sound.....if you can't hear it, then you got a problem that music cannot fix.

  • Testament had their own sound,by no means were they wannabes

  • Comment removed

  • the san francisco bay area has alot of great bands, this is one of them

  • So aloooone...

I may change my musical style... but Testament and Skolnick will always be in my heart.

  • buenisimo....los mejores CARAJO!

  • these guys are gods of metal. I believe they even surpass Metallica.

don't get me wrong, i love metallica, but they went downhill. Testament will always remain my biggest inspiration when it comes to guitar.

  • Testament is great, but surpass Metallica?? Ehm....... don't think so =) 13th april, i'm seeing Metallica for the seconnd time =) And there's no way of telling what will happen to Testament, maybe they'll head downhill as Metallica did to. At least Metallica is still great! They didn't die with cliff, they carried on! There's a difference! Metallica got up on their feet again and is still making great music! And they play their old stuff still great!

  • And if testament has been around since before 1995 they sure as hell ain't going anywhere! Their still a small band amongst great ones as metallica and iron maiden! The real kings of metal, Iron Maiden!!! UP THE IRONS!

  • They're on tour now with Slayer and Megadeth.

  • Wherein that's true, they are also a symbol that if you try hard enough, you can follow in your idol's footsteps.

  • I agree, I think they should play songs like Electric crown, the new order, return to serenity and trial by fire at some metal festivals! It would do them real good.

  • I think that's their biggest problem. since they are an older band, alot of potential fans don't know them.

  • @MarshallATV

After the exit of Mustaine & Burton from Metallica the music style changed to suit the Ego's of Lars & Hetfield, particularly Hetfield. One can notice it on the low-production quality on bass for And Justice For All... which is a nice way to treat a solid bass player & song writer in Jason Newsted.

He of course LEFT because of James & Lars.

Metallica will & can never produce the music they did because there isn't anyone bold enough in the band to stand up to Lars & James.

  • @MarshallATV

Testament never marketed themselves like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, or Korn.

Testament's prerogative was making music to challenge the status quo like any other thrash metal band. The problem with that is the status quo is the commercial market.

In the late 90s Lars was interviewed by a New York rock radio station called "K-Rock."

He had specifically mentioned Metallica would like to take the route of the "Spice Girls", who were big at the time.

    Think about that one.

  • @HerrGeneralVonBraun

umm wow dont even try and say korn is a thrash metal band. they are more like rock... with really shitty sounding riffs

  • I apologize. Maybe I didn't make myself clear but the "Korn" statement was in reference to the "mainstream airwaves."

Megadeth & Anthrax have at 1 point tried the mainstream. Megadeth seems to survive as metal even though they get awards & shit.

The comparison is that Metallica went mainstream w/ the intention of never going back to metal, making lots of money, bringing into a fold of the metal scene a bunch of fans who are more or less posers of the greatest quality.

  • Well, okay i guess it's fact that they are better, but opinions count to, right? lol.

I didn't really like Metallica's new stuff. They had1 or 2 good songs, but i don't think they will ever be known by the new as much as they are the old, if you know what i'm saying.

Testament is a band that followed in their idols footsteps.

They were the wannabes, who got to be.

  • @MarshallATV

Metallica died with Cliff. The name "Metallica" is in reference to "Metal" & after Cliff died they began to deviate from what we know as "Metal". They quit & gave up on Metal. What they need to do is change their name.

Now is Metallica better than Testament?

    No.

You really can't compare the 2 since Testament is more metal now than ever were before while Metallica puts it's weight on some old shit recorded 200 years ago.

  • @MarshallATV

There was no way anyone could tell Metallica would sound completely different from the 90s as they did in the 80s. There was no way to tell Metallica would go on to be on top of the metal scene & release Master of Puppets & then 10 years later play country music on Load.

Yes. There's a difference. When I listen to Testament's The Ritual 8 years later they release a masterpiece called "The Gathering". Another 8 years later they pull something out of nowhere to continue to pound.

  • @MarshallATV Maybe...but it's sad for a band to be great for stuff they did 20 years or more ago. And to get up on "their feet" that's kinda lame...go and search who made the only good song on Death Magnetic...it was Trujillo. And for real...if someone told you: "There a private concert of metallica for you and you get to choose 6 songs"

WHat those 6 would be? I for certain wouldn't even give a shit. Het can't sing the old stuff and the new suck. The concert here in mexico was dreadful.

  • I don't give a shit what you say. Me and millions of other don't give a shit what you say ;) Testament<Metallica ;)

  • @MarshallATV

    YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOO RIGHT!

Let's just follow what the majority say! Let not think for ourselves! Oh my god! Metallica sooo fucking rules over every other band because like OH MY GOSH they have like lots and lots of record and they oh so totally cool right?

    RIGHT?!

  • No, wrong ;) I AM thinking for myself, Testament is a piece of shit band compared to Metallica if you as me! Don't have anything to do with what the majority says. But the fact that alot more people would agree with me, backs me up a litllebit =)

  • ask*

  • And why the fuck do people always complain about Metallica changing their sound?? The bass player and best friend died for fuck sake!! When something like that happens it does something to your mind, you can't just watch a friend die like that, and keep on beeing all hardcore and stuff. Metallica uses their music to express feelings, so they needed to change their sound and write some emotional songs. Those who blame them for that can fuck off.

  • their*

  • If that's the case, they should have broken up when he died or changed the band name. They kept playing because it became a busness to them, not a passion.

Face it, kid. They sold out.

  • @foldedeggs Anthrax fucking sucks

  • metallica and the millions of assholes like you can suck a big fat cock. and when i say big i mean so big that all of you can suck it at the same time. Testament is the band and metallica can change name to dolarica

  • Go eat donkey shit =) Metallica is the shit so shut your fucking mouth ;)

  • @MarshallATV what's with your gay fucking weanking shit is it from getting all the members of metallica cumming in your eye while you guys talk about your feelings douche megadeth and testament both kick metallicas ass

  • @TheOnlyMETHEREAPER I agree alex skolnic is an awesome guitarist with incredible feel and taste

  • @shredder1390 exactly. he's even better teamed with the asian guitarist, who imo is better than dragonforces asian guitarist. (or watever ethnicity)

  • @TheOnlyMETHEREAPER im pretty sure eric peterson is half mexican/half swedish

  • @hahauwanthesethings all the great guitarists have a touch of swede or spaniard.

  • @TheOnlyMETHEREAPER The thing with that though, is that Testament has had many changes over the years, bringing it a fresh music sense to their writing, whereas Metallica for the MOST part has had the same members who do most if not all the writing.

  • @MetalHeadMat666 true, but that can be a double edged sword, helping and hurting them. If they had switched members around, or even hired session musicians, they could have created more songs that varied their style.

I'm sure i'll get flamed for this, but i believe Death Magnetic was their worst album so far. If they had different musicians or directors working on it, it could have changed the entire album from acceptable, to the same level as other metallica albums.

  • this is good

  • \\m// jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaa britney spears RULES BIATCHS!!!!!!!

  • my band played this at a li lpiss ant bar in senath missouri, we kicked ass at it but the locals were dumbfounded

  • well the reason ther underrated is cause they havnt sold out like most bands these days

  • A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

  • fucking fag

  • Testament is one of the best bands ever they deserve more success than metallica

  • I agree matmcghee.

Testament has gotten better & become better than Metallica over time in the mist of internal struggles & line-up changes.

Metallica ever since the fall of Cliff Burton & the gay influence of Bob Rock have ultimately gone from the upper echelon of the metal world to a pile of shit at the bottom. They call themselves "METAL-lica" but then come out w/ hard rock/alternative albums to sell to the coward masses then call it "an experiment."

That's real weak. Real fuckin weak.

  • Metallica was good before Load, but Testament is way better.

the point is not everyone know Testament.Thats why.

    THRASH FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • metallica became shit when cliff died! cliff was metallica!

  • Exactly! The old metallica is way better than their new shit. when cliff died, metallica died with him.

  • @HerrGeneralVonBraun

Gee, or maybe if you had done any research into Metallica's history, they don't make the music for the fans, they make it for themselves. Lars has been quoted time and again as saying "we do it our own way." They weren't selling out, they did what they thought was right for them at the time. If you don't like their music, that's fine. Don't call them out as posers though when you don't know shit about them.

  • actually their sounds remind one another

  • @matmcghee no they copied metallica

  • @matmcghee its not true. Simple & True.

  • @matmcghee How? They came out four years after metallica made such a big following in the thrash metal genre.

  • @DoubleOKevin11 Because Metallica sold out. I dont care who came out first. Through the entire 90's Metallica made shit albums and Testament stayed real metal not alternative shit

  • @matmcghee I'm sorry I forgot that musicians have to stick to one genre,I also forgot that's how your creative *face palm* of course I should have seen it all along,if you want to be truly creative you stick to the same genre for around thirty years without deviating.......silly me

  • @matmcghee couldn't have it said better

  • damn wish james was still in the band!

  • plz upload more of return to serenity live in good quality i see none in youtube. :(

  • That's because they hardly ever play it live. Unfortunately

  • UPLOAD MORE GOOD SHIT

  • TestAmenT=greatest of all time in my mind.

  • absolutely fucking agree! Has the full mix, the aggression, the mellow, they do it all!!!!

  • this is too damn good

they could have made a ridiculous amount of money off of this

  • they did try to make a ridiculous amount of money with this album..this was thier "black album" it was tones down and not totally thrash...but if you look at the other albums out at the same time youll see why..anthrax P.O.T, megadeth euthanasia/countdown, metallica metallica...all the big boys were toning it down and since testament was still under atlantic records they were pushed to make a more video/radio friendly album..grunge didnt happen yet when this came out...it was the last old metal

  • Grunge was happening when this album came out. Nevermind came out months before The Ritual. As did Ten. I guess they probably hadn't picked up steam by then, but Grunge was definitely happening.

  • this is funny testament going acoustic

  • If anyone is interested I can upload more.

  • UPLOAD MORE!!!

  • Please :D

  • please do buddy

  • @shakalakamutafuka you've got more of this concert? did you film it? what was it exactly? i can hear some audience in the beginning. looks like they play in some pals living room :D

  • @shakalakamutafuka yea upload and upload til death! :)

  • @shakalakamutafuka I sure would love to see more live videos with James Murphy...xD

  • Excellent find!

  • lol chuck in the backround looks funny but testament rocks.

  • Fuckin' great song, fuckin' great version, fuckin' great band!!!!

  • Godlike!

  • One of my favourite songs ever.

  • wow ancient testament video. haven't seen return to serenity done live in acoustic....Testament did a good job on this version...kick ass solo by james murphy...hail TESTAMENT...\m/...

  • Eric Peterson, a guitar god and his cousin on the other guitar rocks. Always been a great song, didn't know they did this acoustic live, awesome.

  • truly magical.

  • yay go chuk

  • Yeah James Murphy!!!Fucking great guitarist!

Him and Alex were the best guitarist that passed from this band!

  • Eric kicks ass as well!

  • Seeing them in Febuary =D Well can't wait

  • no alex :(
