IF TRUE, the man this guy really contradicts his own beliefs. It would really dissapoint me also as I have been wearing AA for years because they are supposed to have ethics. I thought the whole purpose of AA was fair trade and this is discrimination. Of course, larger corperations that make stuff in China to be sold in outlet stores could be spreading propaganda against Dov.

Its not like being racist. Ugly is universal amongst the races and the sexes. Sure you can discriminate on attractiveness just like you can discriminate on intelligence. Intelligence is a characteristic of a human which someone is born with and they cant really help their level of intelligence. And yes you can fire someone for being unintelligent.

I've never had a pleasant experience shopping at American Apparel...would usually never be greeted, or helped in any way while other customers were cheerfully welcomed.Possibly because I don't fit the image of the sort of customer they want. I mean, I know what I've experienced was most likely just due to the individual staff members I dealt with. But this just confirms my negative feelings about this business. Now I will definitely never shop there again.

It is probably related to the fact that throughout evolution and even today, mate selection is highly based on reproductive success. A huge indicator of reproduction success is seen in attractiveness, apparently better looking people are part of a better gene pool.

The CEO doesn't deal with customers; the CEO is in the business of selling company shares, not clothing.
Studies have shown that attractive people are more readily promoted in their job, are more likely to receive assistance from their peers when they need it and make better sales persons. It's just the ugly truth, the CEO probably had the right idea. He probably knows that he's ugly; but he is in an environment where it doesn't matter (upper management); good for him.

American Apparel has a certain image that they are trying to portray. What he did was a smart business move, and as for whether or not he is good enough to be judging: simply because you are ugly it does not mean that you are incapable of knowing who is ugly and who is not.

Actually American Apparel doesn't just hire "good looking" people. They hire people who know how to dress, who have a sense of style and can dress in a way that sells their clothes. The American Apparel stores where I'm at doesn't have good looking workers, only a select few.

actually, it works pretty well. he doesnt just hire good looking people, he makes them wear the clothes when they work. when people come in and see the clothing on modelesque girls and boys, they buy it, even if the clothes don't look on everyone. they look cool by association (because you see good looking girls and boys wearing them). american apparel employees are walking billboard ads. and it works; some people walk out wearing the same outfits that the employees are wearing.

he called our merchandiser, and instructed her to fire all employees in the intire city with visable piercings or tattoos-
she told him that we we're good workers and that she would refuse to fire anybody under those pretences.

Two things about this:
* Yes it's bad that he's sacking ugly people, that's totally unacceptable and i wonder if he could be prosecuted.
