@Sowldred It's been 3 weeks and you might already know this but I'll say it anyway... It might be a small spoiler though. Mikuru takes Kyon back in time where he meets Haruhi as a child, since it's dark Haruhi doesn't get a good look at his face and Kyon tells her his name is "John Smith". Hence why when they meet at the start of the anime, Haruhi thinks shes met Kyon before.

@Sowldred It's a reference to the Haruhi series. When Kyon hides his identity from Haruhi, he says his name is John Smith and Haruhi was wondering if Alan knew him. It would help if you read the visual novels because I don't really want to spoil it. Or if you watched the second season....

i think it was a reference to the 1st ep of season2 where Kyon tells the Haruhi in the past that his name was John Smith so it wouldn't mess the time line up. but it might be to do with something else & i'm just missing the point.

yes is about that capter but that was a fake name that kyon used and haruhi did not believed a word being the fact jonh smith is the most common name in the US. so i was pointing that in my first comment and asking about jonh smith is no sense.
