I was in college when the VT shooting happened. I was 22yrs old and had/have a CCL. After the VT shooting, I chose to start carrying my 9mm to class with me everyday. I would be damned if some LUNATIC came into my class and started shooting "SITTING DUCKS". Thankfully I never had to use my gun, but, if I had, some parents would be greatful I saved their childs life.
Nice video dude. I like how you were fair, balanced, and open minded.
I don't understand your logic. If you might be wrong and don't like people arguing with you because THEY might be wrong, then don't argue, cause you're being a hypocrite.
Of course you think that you are right, and they think that they are right. That is the reason people argue. so don't criticize people for arguing with you who disagree with you. lol
But don't misunderstand. I agree with you about gun control, but that's beside the point.
here is an idea on european gun control... So european government has evolved from monarchies and totalitarian regimes with. The people of europe have been ruled over by kings/queens/lords/vatican for what 2000 years? look back into the days before enlightenment and revolution. Subjects werent aloud to have weapons to rise up with. They have had weapons bans on one form or another for 2000 years they are used to being under the heel of the elite. why would we want to emulate that here?
america all does what we want we dont use the metric system, we drive on the right side of the road and we tote firearms, any homeland liberal scum or abroad liberal scum needs to understand write it down and learn to love it because guns are not going anywhere. NRA FOR LIFE
Where not the weapons used in Virginia Tech not already banned weapons? Here in the UK we banned all hand guns back in 1997. It was to stop people being injured by said guns. But the number of people being injured by such guns over the next 10 years did not fall, did not even stop climbing. It actually continued to increase! Why? Because criminals had illegal weapons to start with.
That's it! Morons (Liberal and Conservative) can't grasp that CRIMINALS DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT LEGALITY! AT least they suck at aiming. Gun control makes their lot easier because the populace can't defend themselves properly. Most people won't shoot, even if they are armed. For example, in World War 2, in the US Army, only about 20 or so percent of soldier got any meaningful number of kill; only a few people will kill anyway, but armed citizens are a force for anti-crime.
take a mans gun away, he'll stab someone. take his knife away, hell beat someone to death with a baseball bat. take the bat away he'll kill someone with his bare hands. man has killed long before guns were invented. taking away guns isnt going to to stop mankind from killing each other.
Take these murders off the murder statistics and see if it reduces your murder rate.
What else can gun industry propagandists say after incidents like this other than what they ARE saying? If "gun-free-zones" didn't exist and people didn't stop killing each other, they'd say the problem is that not enough people bought guns.
The whole issue with liberals and gun control is that liberals simply don't trust people...
This is proven with all of the laws that BAN active duty police officers from carring a weapon when off duty!
So let me see if I understand this correctly: If the officer is on duty you can trust him with a weapon, but once he takes off the uniform he's not trustworthy?
That's liberal logic, That's why I'm a conservative (note: I didn't say Republican).
When I was in college there were no "Gun Free" zones. I had friends in classes with me that were military. We all had conceal-carry permits and carried into class, and nobody ever got shot. That massacre would have never happened in our classroom. One innocent person maximum would have been injured.
If guns kill people, then it's my cars fault for a hit and run!! Blaming guns is like getting mad at a mirror for not liking what you see!!!!! Completly Idiotic!!!!
I'll say this....I have a concealed permit....I go to school....NO ONE knows I'm armed....if someone starts shooting, I will brandish my weapon and take care of the violence...if I break a "School Policy" by having the gun, then so be it....if I save my life or someone elses, it's worth it.
"One student with a gun, or one professor with a gun, could have prevented the killing of tens of people"
It's weird you complain about my use of statistics which may be valid while your own arguments have no basis in reality whatsoever. As far as we know. How is it then that countries with school massacres are always the ones with loose gun laws (America, Finland etc)?
Sure, there've been school shootings in places that have citizens who own guns. Let's look at Israel. They had a terrorist attack on a school. They armed the teachers. There hasn't been an attack since. And I'll add that these shootings take place when citizens are NOT ALLOWED to carry guns. If there's a school shooting in a place that allows concealed carry and it isn't stopped by someone rapidly, then your argument may hold some weight. But let's look at britain. Look at the ridiculous...
March 06, 2008, Religious School massacre: Religious school, Mercaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem, Israel. 9 Dead and 11 Wounded. The attacker with a fully automatic AK-47 was stopped by student, Yitzhak Dadon, who shot the attacker twice with his personal firearm.
crime rate there. It's been a disaster as far as gun control is concerned. Australia is also a disaster. In fact, Europe is the ONLY case where gun control is implemented and crime rates are very low. I'd conclude that this indicates cultural differences rather than legislative differences. Guns aren't the problems, it's people. Anyway, why are you still arguing this. I posted this video a loong time ago. Don't you have something better to do? You're wrong, get over it, and move on with life.
Really? What about Australian murder rates then? Or Japanese (I assume they have strict rules, not sure). To be honest the current homicide rates in the USA are historically pretty good and nominally not that horrible anyway so if you want to keep your guns I guess there's nothing wrong with that. I just find the 'defense' (from other citizens) argument rather weak (softly put), just admit it's a recreational thing.
I think I posted here because somebody recently reacted.
To some people perhaps. My interest in guns didn't start with an interest in target shooting or hunting, but self defense. I read up on it, and being armed made sense. Since then, I've found shooting for recreation to be quite enjoyable too. If you want, I'll dig up dozens of links on the merit behind armed self defense.
Let's say you ban firearms with relative success and most guns get taken off the street (unlrealistic as criminals won't be handing anything over). Then you've taken more guns away from good people than away from bad people. In britain, I believe the number of gunshot wounds has tripled since the ban while deaths have decreased slightly. All this indicates is that criminals can't aim, and british doctors are good at saving lives. I can find the statistics when I have some time.
I'm not so sure about the virtues of trying to take guns away from a society that is saturated in them, though I suspect over the long term it's a postive. I'm pretty certain though that it's virtuous to have a gun skeptic society in the first place.
Alright, I understand. I just tend to think society needs fixing rather than the riddance of an inanimate object. In an ideal world, no one needs guns and we could all live in harmony. I tend to think that's highly unlikely. It's definitely possible, but getting rid of guns won't get us any closer. We have to stop blaming mere objects. The real test of whether humanity deserves to survive is can we survive when we have the ability to end our existence? If not, then....
They wont be able to rid of guns, Just like they can never rid of narcotics, Getting guns is easy if you know the right people, Its as freely available as marijuana.
Well if everyone in your society carried a gun. Wouldn't you want a gun? unless you wanted to be one of the few disarmed people that would be targeted by crooks. Gun control's main purpose is to make criminals put down their guns, however it is the GOOD citizens that obey these laws. The CRIMINALS whom your trying to disarm, the criminals that don't obey rape and murder laws will not obey gun laws.
Gun laws only disarm those who want to be disarmed. Criminals don't put their weapons down period
Europe isn't homogeneously monolithic, You have the UK were someone can be charged with murder for using a gun against a arm burglar, Then you have Switzerland ranked as one of the safest countries in the world , Also requires every 20 year old male to own a SG 550 assault rifle.
Requires? Switzerland has a draft, that's what makes the difference. And Switzerland is no safer than other small European countries. UK has 1/3 the homicide rate the USA has and 50% less than Switzerland. France even lower still and Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia have 1/6th the homicide rate. But this is a tired discussion a 5.6 homicide rate is by no means catastrophic so I guess there's no real problem anyway.
if joe badguy abuses and misuses a gun, why should someone who dosen't misuse a gun (the vast majority of gun owners) be penalized and demonized by those who have an unresonable fear of guns? "government is like fire, a dangerous servant and a frightful master"-george washington
Dude, great point, that's what I keep saying in different posts, if one student was armed, that guy in Virginia Tech wouldn't had killed as many people as he did, He would had been shot by a law abiding student that refused to be a victim, sadly, it didn't happened that way because of the stupid gun free zones!! In Utah, they allowed law abiding students to carry in classes, how many shooting have occurred in Utah, NONE!!!! Good video man, glad to hear someone else thinks the same way!!!
We are a free society and have the right to protect ourselves and those we love! "When the Govement can give you eveything you want, it can also take everything you have" Thomas Jefferson
I commend your reasoned approach and your conclusions are pretty much correct. You really don't need anyones' validation because it is natural law that defends your position. It is the threat of injury or danger that keeps predators at bay. The weak are elevated to an "on-par" status because of guns. The V-tech shooter was shooting at ducks in a pond, so to speak. Had another student been armed, it is very plausible to say most of the murders could have been avoided.
Education is the key! The problem is we have our government and the liberal media sayin "Guns Are Bad". The last time I have seen a gun get up and kill someone it was because the ass behind it pulled the trigger.
Guns cause crime
Like flies cause garbage.
ABORTION KILLS.DRUNK DRIVERS KILL.TABACCO KILLS. Final Thought noone can fix stupid...
Another thing, criminals will ALWAYS exist regardless of what gun laws are there. Now, which scenario would you rather be in? A gun free society in which people are absolutely useless and helpless in potentially stopping a crime and saving lives or a society with armed citizens capable of self defense?
It's not the tool that kills the individual, it's the person that wields it. I occasionally hear about stabbings but I don't see anyone trying to ban knives! If we have car accidents, does that give us the reason to ban cars?!
Yeah, I know guns are dangerous, but think about this, if noone has guns because it's against the law, who's left that's bold enough
jtorres6357: (in reply to your second post down) Last I heard, the UK medical community was pushing for a ban on long kitchen knives, even though they admitted that most stabbings were caused by the short 'steak knife' type. The premise is that long kitchen knives no longer serve a really necessary purpose and were more likely to result in death if used in an attack. Now how can anyone argue with logic like that? Google 'UK long knife ban'. What a world we live in! What's next?
whats next at least for the UK is a ban on anything sharp and plastic protection bubbles for all citizens so nothing can harm them or get them sick so the cost of healthcare will go down! not a country i would want to live in even now despite all the beauty USA is the country for me!
Another thing to consider- You need a permit to conceal carry in most states, and that typically requires you to be over 21, and obtain some sort of training. Students, faculty and staff with carry permits should be allowed to carry on campus, JUST LIKE THEY DO EVERY DAY OFF CAMPUS.
When it comes to self-defense, it's not just shootings that you need to protect yourself from- it is the crime in surrounding areas. Most of the robberies, muggings etc. at Virginia Tech happen right on the outskirts of campus, where the campus blends into the city. If you are forced out of the ability to protect yourself while on campus, you will be deprived of self-protection when leaving campus as well.
How many laws didn the VA Tech guy break to kill all those people? How many laws did those kids break during Columbine? Enforce the laws we already have, we don't need more. Every Ft. Worth Cop I spoke to would rather get a call that a bad guy is injured or dead from breaking into a home than a call that an innocent victim is in the same state. And I have to agree. Why should I, a law abiding, mentally stable human being, be penalized for the very few that abuse the system?
I personally believe it'd be alright if most people walked around with a weapon on their belt. I mean honestly, if everybody knew that everybody around them had a firearm, I doubt they'd try and start any trouble. And if somebody did, then the citizens around the area who are carrying a weapon can take justice into their own hands before anybody else is hurt.
"...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Gun restrictions infringe that right, don't they?
Good people can still get angry and lose their head. Imagine if all these "good" people carried around a gun all the time, maybe instead of a fist fight breaking out, someone would get a bullet in the head. Just a thought...
I grew up around people who owned and carried guns. None of them so much as had an accident with a gun, nevermind lose their mind and shoot their friends. Some of us understand how serious murder is...
Have you not heard the stats on how many revoked concealed carry licenses there are in the states? Despite your fears, it just doesn't happen, at least not to the extent where it would cause more harm than good. (since self defense = good to sane people at least).
Well which statistics do you believe? Some say that more guns lead less crime, and some say the opposite. I stumbled across a yale paper on the subject and the conclusion basically just said that we don't know enough about the topic to make a conclusion and that more research is needed. Your personal experience has taught you that gun control is a bad thing and thats why you made the video, but of course there's bound to be people who's life experience has shown them the opposite.
Dc speaks for itself. Because of rising violence you now don't have the right to go anywhere you want that is public property. You have to show papers that prove you live/work in area to go there. DC has very strict gun control laws. Almost no-one is allowed to have a gun..
I would say that there is a right way to interpret things that aren't opinion. Gun control, in the way that mainstream society seems to be viewing it is wrong, plain and simple.
furthur more im british and we have let our rights be taken from us, and anyone who says that britain is better off because of it needs to spend sometime in central london, manchester, liverpool and many other places in this country where gun and knife crime is out of control.
And most of the guns used by thieves and gangs are actually coming out from suburban areas. Plus, that right to have guns is very old, back when we were afraid that the brits would invade us. But go on, excercise your right, go have your relatives killed by accident, Im quite sure that by having a gun with your kids the queen wont harm you at all
Yes, it's impossible that the government will become tyrannical and take away our rights. People who think the government will always respect their rights haven't studied history a lot. A guy named Robert Mugabe has ruined a country called Zimbabwe. No one has been able to stop him because no one has the GUNS to force him out of power. He has DESTROYED his country, and his people can't do anything about it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
when you purchase a gun you always run the risk of having a relative killed with your own gun. Thats why we need strict gun control, to avoid accidents. The only good place to hide a gun away from the kids is a safe box, but if the enemy enters your home you wont have enough time to unlock the safe, So whats the point of having it anyway? Do you really want to run the risk of having your kid dead by your own bullet?
I know A LOT of people who own A LOT of guns. I know A LOT of people who walk around armed with a gun. No one I know has been killed by a gun accident. I DO have two female friends who saved themselves from rape and their house from being robbed because they know how to use a gun. When a kid is brought up with an education of how to use a gun properly there aren't problems.
Slow down just a little bit, dude. You make a good argument but the rapid fire way you speak makes you seem a little bit incoherent. Just try to slow yourself down and you might not get a headache. =)
you are a great speaker. it is such bullshit that some people think gun control will prevent these incidents. the way I see it, only some forms of gun control is necessary, while others should not be used. for example, controlling guns by keeping lunatics from walking out of a store with one is reasonable, but not allowing permitted people to excercise their permittance anywhere is bullshit.
Crime can be reduced a number of ways but gun control is illegal according to our 2nd ammendment which guarantees us the right to bare arms. there will always be crime and death no matter what you do. Our forefathers were thinking of a worst case senario where the govt. enslaves its own people. That's why they armed us. And that's what makes this country great. without it, it might be just another Germany w/ a Hitler or another Russia w/ a Stalin. Shouldn't even be discussing this.
Look on the fact that drugs are illegal but criminals get, sell, and us it... how can "banning" guns keep them out of the hands of criminals if they can easily get other banned things such as drugs etc? It's purely and emotional argument, but an illogical one.
"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future." -Adolf Hitler (1935)
That county in Georgia that required all homes to posses atleast one gun done really well. Violent crime is virtually non existent at the moment in that county.
If one person has a gun, every one should have a gun. If every one has the same power, no one is unequal. Isn't this what came to pass when Nuclear weapons became the worlds threat.
A lot of people say every thing would be better if no one had guns. That is most likly true. But guns are here, and they are not going any where any time soon. People in power say get rid of guns, but they don't say get rid of all guns. they want guns for themselves, they arm the people they control. the people who protect them.
You make a lot of sense. But gun regulations are unfortunately not the only part of the problem. The way self-defence laws are made up, you're going to have a hard time proving you were defending yourself unless the other guy attacks/shoots first.
Your case is weakened if you don't have a wound to show! How twisted is that? Don't belive me? Look up the self-defence laws.
If someone points a gun at anyone that is a threat. All guns are to be considered as loaded. If it's infront of the gun the carrier is intending to kill it, or should be considered as such. So if you see someone pointing a gun at you, that in itself is an attack. So if yo usee someone pointing a gun at your friend, shoot that asshole.
UK, Australia damn near 100% ban on firearms, crime rates, especially violent crimes have shot WAY up.
Switzerland, all able bodied adult males are requested to have a FULL AUTO military rifle, given to them by there government, crime rates extremely low.
Good point. Seems the "Gun Free Zone" signs don't stop criminals. I'm not sure how a sign would stop them, but mayby I'm just crazy.
I carried a handgun to my classes every day when I was in college. If any nut-case were to come to our classes while I was there it would have ended with me standing over their body. I'm a very easy going person who has more firearm training and safety training than most police. Why shouldn't I be allowed to have a handgun in college?
Excellent video. I always find it ironic that people often use murders in areas where guns aren't allowed as proof that we need more places where guns aren't allowed.
In a Life or Death situation when seconds count, remember the Police are only 5 minutes away. Gun control - the way it is in my opinion is as good as it gets - it does keep REGULATED SALES OF FIREARMS out of the hands of criminals. Why enact more law that criminals arent going to abide by to begin with? You cannot legislate against CRAZY. I dont think taking away my right to defend myself and my loved ones is going to keep me any safer.
If you look at all the people involved you have to include every one of those poor souls families who lost a love one you now multiply the actual victims if you look at every student if you say that only their parents cared for them now you already have roughly 90 victims of this crime thats not even looking at that student having brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and grandparents and so on.
the problem is we are becoming a nation of victims were its is better to be a victim then it is to take another persons life even if that means stopping a monster.
I couldn't disagree more. If you are so diluted by society and have so suppressed your basic instinct to self preservation and survival, then nature's way of solving you as a problem, a weak link in the gene pool, is to simply remove you, hopefully before you get a chance to procreate. You are truly a sad creature.
I think his point is that the laws make it so you are better off being a victim than killing your attacker. Up here in Canada our criminal code isn't nice to people who use lethal force to defend themselves. But maybe I'm misunderstanding you (or mattzachattack)
I agree with you. Consider the, "Wild West", for example when most people carried guns. Women could walk the streets after dark without fearing for their lives. And when some idiot did something stupid, they could be quickly aprehended bacause most people where armed and knew how to defend themselves. Crime was considerably lower in this period as well. Guns are just tools, they are not the problem. People are the problem.
All americans are stupid.... all 300 million of them. We're in 27th place in education and 37th place in general health. In addition, america has been involved in more wars in the last 100 years than any other country.
I fully agree with your sentiments and have thought and said the same thing to my wife and others when this incident happened. It is so obvious that if someone in one of those classrooms would have had a gun and a chance to shoot, many lives could possibly have been saved. we'll all have a difficult time convincing the "soccer" parents though. They just don't see the logic beyond their fear.
Guns are what keeps the goverment from taking over and our founding fathers new that and with that there is a price but if some one want to kill someone and didnt have a gun they would find some thing else. I own alot of guns and all ways keep one with me epicialy in my truck so no damn liberial democrate is gonna take my guns away
There is no way that anybody can get rid of all of the guns. This is a fallacy, completely unrealistic, there are literally a billion guns in America.
why don't you tell us how we as a society can get rid of all if the guns in America.
while you are thinking about that, watch on youtube "Myth: Gun Control Reduces Crime" and give us your opinion.
yes but if one guy snaps and does something stupid then other people can stop it remember the police will not always be around a lot of times you have to rely on your self and the com pleat stranger.
I only partially agree with you. I believe that if a large number of young people (college students) were to carry guns around, there could be a higher chance of careless use of guns. Young people, including me (18), can become emotional during difficult times. I certainly would not feel comfortable in an environment where other students were armed.
I can trust myself with a gun, but I'm not sure if I could trust a stranger with a gun.
I myself am a gun owner, but I leave my weapons at home.
while I agree that Canadians need lots of medication to act normal (ok, ok, I'll stop insulting my own country), I actually had to look up what Adderall is :P.
Very well said. You're completely right. The day I turn 21 I'm getting my CCW liscense and a reovlver and I will be able to defend myself.
"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!" Adolf Hitler, 1935
Great point! I totally agree with you that all responsible, law-abiding citizens should be allowed to carry firearms for self-defense. People who want to outlaw guns are still living in this illusion that either the government will protect its citizens or every human being is good natured and not sadistic.
Oh dude, I so phucking love you! Finally someone that has a phucking brain! You my friend have just redeemed mankind... Can't really say that's the greatest thing ever, but hey, at least I now know that there are ppl out there that can think for themselves instead of being a sheep and following the herd...
A gun is just an easy kill to a psyco, your not going to see him running around trying to put plastic bags around ppls heads and duct tape them to suffocate them, or run around the school with a chainsaw. The matter of fact is, is that a gun is a killers tool, doesn't have to be it, could be explosives, could be a knife, or a bat with nails sticking out, or even better a car, perfect for running over people. Thank you for reading my comment.
I once wrote a letter to Gov. Arnold for a class project. In one part I remember typing something to the effect that basically anything around you can kill someone, you just have to be that twisted to do it (Saw series anyone?). A person can go to their local hardware store buy whatever they need to make a bomb, and no one will notice. cont.
It is true that we need to raise our children better. If you notice (not intending on toe stomping) but many teens are having sex before getting married. Now I know it's totally up to the person, but just look at what our society it feeding to the kids. So what is the answer (sp) to this...hand out free condoms at school......that really is not helping. Now that out of the way, this whole deal w/ gun control just gives me a headache. cont..
This is completely true, all of the major shootings in America have been in gun-free zones or in states where there are heavy gun control laws. Gun control only helps the criminals by taking away guns from honest and responsible people. The crime rate in England is higher than in the US (except for rape and murder) because England has banned hand guns since 1997. This is the model that American politicians should be looking at and an excellent reason why gun control does more harm than good.
Do you know how long the Virginia Tech killer had before he KILLED HIMSELF(not even killed by someone else)?!?! If the people that should have guns had them, he could have been stopped before killing 32 students! The campus police had no gun to protect the students and the students and teachers had no gun to protect themselves! They were like sitting ducks!
Russ your style is open and fluid, you admit your human and your open to discussion.I guess I'm not really adding to the debate with this comment, I just want to thank you for respecting your viewers.
you really need to shut up, Quit being ignorant. If you want to argue, argue whith what you really believe and use LOGIC. pretending you're a ignorant right winger is proving nothing.
I have all the studeys on my side! You LIB FACISTS from the UN are just riding around in your BLACK HELIOCOPTER! Trying to brainwash with mentel rays from UN headwquartars! You and your Zionest alleys! We NRA member AMERICENS are against it b/c wer'e to SMARTE! Try some other country, you comuniest LIB!
I only argue with LODGIC (you spelt it rong). YOU ARE the ingorant LIB! Against safe gun use by kids! My child leanrt EDDIE EAGEL, very safe, only a few injured and dead from acident. GO NRA GO!
YEA DEFENANTLY NOT! D-E-F-E-N-A-N-T-L-Y! Its LODGICAL! NRA MEMVBERS is SMARTER than nonNRA LIBS! Studeys prove it! Guns is a TOOL that can be used for hamer or anvil or paperwait! GO NRA GO!
Ok I respect everyones opinion, but your pushing the line. WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY!!! spell your words corectly and put your words in a logical structure, please.
he is trying to come across as a right winger who is an idiot, and by doing so make the right look stupid. What he doesn't realize is that just because the liberals have one idiot in the crowd doesn't make all of THEM look like idiots. Same on our side of the fence.
YOUR RONG! The LIBS are idieots! YOU ARE ONE OF THEM, you UN GUN GRABER Facist! Probably dont believe in the UFO conspirasey either! When they come for the aynal probe, yo'ull see! Guns protects up to 2.5 million people every hour from rappist (aynal and regular), canibel serial killer (like Dawmer, who was anti-gun lib gun graber), and UN Zionest.
If more had guns, then we would be much saferer b/c crimenals would have to get BIGGER gun to steal, but those is ileagel! Guns do'nt kill, murder kills, are you going to ban murder?!?! Its been on Earth fourever! GO NRA GO!
Im sayi'ing that GUNS DO'NT KILL, only sometimes! So guns are realted to murder by gun like axe is realted to head chopped off! Sure, axe can chop off head but it also can cut wood--well, gun can shoot guy who tryes to steal my parking space, but also can cut wood (needs a lot of ammo, but very efective!). See, LODGICAL! GO NRA GO!
Killing is still a sin! Even if its in self defnese. I would shoot the gunner in the legs if anything, or blow out the kneekaps, that would make the gunner grop the gun instantly. Its just a natural reaction, you get ur knee blown off, you collapse and grab your knee. (of course you gotta be a good shooter to blow out the knee 1st shot)
ummmm, "You shall not murder" is the quote I pulled from my Bible. Killing and murder are very different. Self defense is a sin? No. A Christian guy who returned after Vietnam gave my dad this advice when my dad was on his way to Africa: If you are going to shoot someone, make sure you kill them. Wounding an animal is less dangerous than wounding a human being. If you are going to shoot, shoot to kill.
Just a thought... If you think, that only 1 % (I don't take that literally, but I quote you to stress the point) would abuse guns, than why do you think that this world is crime infested? And one other thing: Most lunatics won't admit that they are insane.
1% is more than enough to wreak havoc on the planet. It was just an example anyway. I meant "the VAST majority". Anyway, I think just anyone should have the right to purchase and carry a concealed weapon. I never said that in the video. I think everyone who proves their sanity/stability should have the right.
'GUN FREE ZONES' is the problem! You need guns with you ALWAYS, in school (for Cho and for mean teacher), at job (mean boss or boss who is part of NEW WORD ORDER), when you go to bed, in the bathroom to (never now if burgaler will come throug window while you are on toilet), in church (preacher could turn out to be from UN).
I have gun when I am intemate with wife (never now if rappist will try to rap, easier bc shes already nekked). Your wife could be burgaler to! GO NRA GO!
Europeans have similar debates often. And Europeans, like any huam beings, have insight. For every person there is one unique opinion. And clumping all Europeans together is not an uncommon US practice either. Both Americans and Europeans do that. People in general need more understanding. In heated debates people can voice a straight forward, one-sided opinion.
The problem with religious peoples are that they have a magic thinking to solve our problems. If you need a big book to have a moral, it is because you are not intelligent enough. No need for diploma to be a parent, but it help.
All Americans have the right to buy a gun, but how come it is always the bad guy who has the gun? If you want to show numbers, for a thousand of people how many people are kill in your country, my country Canada and Europeans country's?
Addition: previous comment for NimRob. And just wanted to mention thanks for speaking in a civil, non-profanity laden way. Its not common for this topic.
Imagine you're a rapest on the prowl in Japan where people don't own guns. How afraid are you to break into a house? Now imagine you're in rural American doing the same thing. You go up break the window and see an NRA sticker. Now how brave are you? Nuff said.
905enclid. Great points. What you're saying about what the criminal would think re:NRA stickers sounds quite reasonable, but the facts are that Japan's crime rate is 19/1000 people vs the US's 80/1000, with even a bigger gap in the murder rate. I agree that cultures play a part but....more to come
I know that (supposedly) crime in Egypt is low (at least theft) because the penalty is losing your hand. We drove around Cairo with suitcases on our roof rack and never tied them down. The values of a nation have a large effect on crime.
another comment resulting from another scroll through the comments:
The Japanese have a very high rate of suicide, which includes the killing of children in "family suicides" or what we in North America call: Lunatic murders family then takes his/her own life.
...if you compare Canada and the US. We are VERY similar nations. We both have inner city culture, we both have minorities who do the most crime, we both have gangs and ethnic violence. We are exposed to almost identical media and entertainment, and have extremely similar cultures values and geography. Even if you compare ONLY white crimes rates, the US is still drastically higher than Canada, and that is a very similar culture comparison.
"almost identical media and entertainment", yeah, except Canadian media is very left. Not to mention there are more liberals in Canada than in the US (percentage wise at least).
Our culture is very different from Canada's. Ask anybody who had live in both. However, even if availability of guns were the sole reason we have more murders in the U.S., I still don't want to be like Canada. Most murders in US are drug, gang, or domestic related. I don't use drugs, run with a gang, and I trust my wife more than some tweaked out meth head. So I will gladly live with a higher muder rate if it means I can defend myself and my family
I understand what you saying. Then they would have a fighting chance. 1 Problem tho you said 1 percent are lunatics. I rekon it would be about 30 %. P.S good vid
NimRob, you are disproved by the fact that in places with control, your exact same example does occur, but the gun control laws make it hard enough for anyone to get guns, that the scenario you describe doesn't happen. In nations where guns are outlaws, the outlaws DON'T have guns.
All these "what if" scenarios that have been presented seem highly improbable. Besides, if two armed gangs want to have it out, what would prevent them from doing it with knives in a gun free country if they really wanted each other dead?
NHLFever do you realize that in nations where guns are outlawed the only people with guns ARE the outlaws? If they are going to do something bad with a gun, they have no moral problem obtaining one illegally. Do you also realize how many gangs and groups in numberour countries (including ones with no gun policies) possess AK47's (and other automatic weapons) which are military assault rifels that are legally owned by NO civilian ANYWHERE?
If your 21, buy a gun within the law and have a concealed handgun permit you should be able to carry it on a college campus and defend yourself.

Were those students shot with:
a. Guns, or
b. Gun-free-zones

"One student with a gun, or one professor with a gun, could have prevented the killing of tens of people"
It's weird you complain about my use of statistics which may be valid while your own arguments have no basis in reality whatsoever. As far as we know. How is it then that countries with school massacres are always the ones with loose gun laws (America, Finland etc)?
jpbalkenende 3 years ago
Sure, there've been school shootings in places that have citizens who own guns. Let's look at Israel. They had a terrorist attack on a school. They armed the teachers. There hasn't been an attack since. And I'll add that these shootings take place when citizens are NOT ALLOWED to carry guns. If there's a school shooting in a place that allows concealed carry and it isn't stopped by someone rapidly, then your argument may hold some weight. But let's look at britain. Look at the ridiculous...

crime rate there.
Russoft 3 years ago
@Russoft
I think I posted here because somebody recently reacted.
jpbalkenende 3 years ago
To some people perhaps. My interest in guns didn't start with an interest in target shooting or hunting, but self defense. I read up on it, and being armed made sense. Since then, I've found shooting for recreation to be quite enjoyable too. If you want, I'll dig up dozens of links on the merit behind armed self defense.
Russoft 3 years ago
Oh sure a gun as defense makes sense in a society with so many guns. But that's kind of a chicken and egg argument imo.
jpbalkenende 3 years ago
Let's say you ban firearms with relative success and most guns get taken off the street (unlrealistic as criminals won't be handing anything over). Then you've taken more guns away from good people than away from bad people. In britain, I believe the number of gunshot wounds has tripled since the ban while deaths have decreased slightly. All this indicates is that criminals can't aim, and british doctors are good at saving lives. I can find the statistics when I have some time.
Russoft 3 years ago
@Russoft
I'm not so sure about the virtues of trying to take guns away from a society that is saturated in them, though I suspect over the long term it's a postive. I'm pretty certain though that it's virtuous to have a gun skeptic society in the first place.
jpbalkenende 3 years ago
Alright, I understand. I just tend to think society needs fixing rather than the riddance of an inanimate object. In an ideal world, no one needs guns and we could all live in harmony. I tend to think that's highly unlikely. It's definitely possible, but getting rid of guns won't get us any closer. We have to stop blaming mere objects. The real test of whether humanity deserves to survive is can we survive when we have the ability to end our existence? If not, then....

Jizuschrist 2 years ago 2

It's not the tool that kills the individual, it's the person that wields it. I occasionally hear about stabbings but I don't see anyone trying to ban knives! If we have car accidents, does that give us the reason to ban cars?!

jtorres6357: (in reply to your second post down) Last I heard, the UK medical community was pushing for a ban on long kitchen knives, even though they admitted that most stabbings were caused by the short 'steak knife' type. The premise is that long kitchen knives no longer serve a really necessary purpose and were more likely to result in death if used in an attack. Now how can anyone argue with logic like that? Google 'UK long knife ban'. What a world we live in! What's next?

Another thing to consider- You need a permit to conceal carry in most states, and that typically requires you to be over 21, and obtain some sort of training. Students, faculty and staff with carry permits should be allowed to carry on campus, JUST LIKE THEY DO EVERY DAY OFF CAMPUS.
RabidNinjaPenguins 3 years ago 6
When it comes to self-defense, it's not just shootings that you need to protect yourself from- it is the crime in surrounding areas. Most of the robberies, muggings etc. at Virginia Tech happen right on the outskirts of campus, where the campus blends into the city. If you are forced out of the ability to protect yourself while on campus, you will be deprived of self-protection when leaving campus as well.

And if somebody did, then the citizens around the area who are carrying a weapon can take justice into their own hands before anybody else is hurt.

Have you not heard the stats on how many revoked concealed carry licenses there are in the states? Despite your fears, it just doesn't happen, at least not to the extent where it would cause more harm than good. (since self defense = good to sane people at least).
Russoft 3 years ago
Well which statistics do you believe? Some say that more guns lead less crime, and some say the opposite. when you purchase a gun you always run the risk of having a relative killed with your own gun.

Crime can be reduced a number of ways but gun control is illegal according to our 2nd ammendment which guarantees us the right to bare arms. there will always be crime and death no matter what you do. If someone points a gun at anyone that is a threat. All guns are to be considered as loaded. If it's infront of the gun the carrier is intending to kill it, or should be considered as such. If you are so diluted by society and have so suppressed your basic instinct to self preservation and survival, then nature's way of solving you as a problem, a weak link in the gene pool, is to simply remove you, hopefully before you get a chance to procreate. You are truly a sad creature.
MTMilitiaman 4 years ago
I think his point is that the laws make it so you are better off being a victim than killing your attacker. Up here in Canada our criminal code isn't nice to people who use lethal force to defend themselves. But maybe I'm misunderstanding you (or mattzachattack)
Russoft 4 years ago
If that is the case, then I may have been a little harsh, but I still disagree. I would still rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
And I am fortunate enough to live in a state that recognizes my right to defend myself.
MTMilitiaman 4 years ago
I agree with you. Consider the, "Wild West", for example when most people carried guns. Women could walk the streets after dark without fearing for their lives. And when some idiot did something stupid, they could be quickly aprehended bacause most people where armed and knew how to defend themselves. Crime was considerably lower in this period as well. Guns are just tools, they are not the problem. People are the problem.

All americans are stupid.... all 300 million of them. We're in 27th place in education and 37th place in general health. In addition, america has been involved in more wars in the last 100 years than any other country.
behzodbehzodbehzod 4 years ago
I fully agree with your sentiments and have thought and said the same thing to my wife and others when this incident happened. It is so obvious that if someone in one of those classrooms would have had a gun and a chance to shoot, many lives could possibly have been saved. we'll all have a difficult time convincing the "soccer" parents though. They just don't see the logic beyond their fear.

Gun control keeping people safe is a myth.
There is no way that anybody can get rid of all of the guns. This is a fallacy, completely unrealistic, there are literally a billion guns in America.
why don't you tell us how we as a society can get rid of all if the guns in America.
while you are thinking about that, watch on youtube "Myth: Gun Control Reduces Crime" and give us your opinion.
sabianq 4 years ago 2
yes but if one guy snaps and does something stupid then other people can stop it remember the police will not always be around a lot of times you have to rely on your self and the com pleat stranger.
skatecky3 4 years ago
I only partially agree with you. I believe that if a large number of young people (college students) were to carry guns around, there could be a higher chance of careless use of guns. Young people, including me (18), can become emotional during difficult times. I certainly would not feel comfortable in an environment where other students were armed.
I can trust myself with a gun, but I'm not sure if I could trust a stranger with a gun.
I myself am a gun owner, but I leave my weapons at home.

Great point! I totally agree with you that all responsible, law-abiding citizens should be allowed to carry firearms for self-defense. People who want to outlaw guns are still living in this illusion that either the government will protect its citizens or every human being is good natured and not sadistic.

A person can go to their local hardware store buy whatever they need to make a bomb, and no one will notice. cont.
vash241987 4 years ago
It is true that we need to raise our children better. If you notice (not intending on toe stomping) but many teens are having sex before getting married. Now I know it's totally up to the person, but just look at what our society it feeding to the kids. So what is the answer (sp) to this...hand out free condoms at school......that really is not helping. Now that out of the way, this whole deal w/ gun control just gives me a headache. cont..
vash241987 4 years ago

GO NRA GO!
NRAFourever 4 years ago
Killing is still a sin! Even if its in self defnese. I would shoot the gunner in the legs if anything, or blow out the kneekaps, that would make the gunner grop the gun instantly. Its just a natural reaction, you get ur knee blown off, you collapse and grab your knee. (of course you gotta be a good shooter to blow out the knee 1st shot)
teodor1010 4 years ago
ummmm, "You shall not murder" is the quote I pulled from my Bible.
Russoft 4 years ago
Just a thought... If you think, that only 1 % (I don't take that literally, but I quote you to stress the point) would abuse guns, than why do you think that this world is crime infested? And one other thing: Most lunatics won't admit that they are insane.
zwiebelfischfan 4 years ago

Imagine you're a rapest on the prowl in Japan where people don't own guns. How afraid are you to break into a house? Now imagine you're in rural American doing the same thing. You go up break the window and see an NRA sticker. Now how brave are you? Nuff said.
905euclid 4 years ago
905enclid. Great points. What you're saying about what the criminal would think re:NRA stickers sounds quite reasonable, but the facts are that Japan's crime rate is 19/1000 people vs the US's 80/1000, with even a bigger gap in the murder rate. I agree that cultures play a part but....more to come
NHLFever 4 years ago
I know that (supposedly) crime in Egypt is low (at least theft) because the penalty is losing your hand. We drove around Cairo with suitcases on our roof rack and never tied them down. The values of a nation have a large effect on crime.
Russoft 4 years ago
another comment resulting from another scroll through the comments:
The Japanese have a very high rate of suicide, which includes the killing of children in "family suicides" or what we in North America call: Lunatic murders family then takes his/her own life.
Russoft 4 years ago
...if you compare Canada and the US.
NHLFever 4 years ago
I don't believe Canada and the US should ever be called "similar". That is only degrading the US. NHLFever you love this shit don't you?
NimRob28 4 years ago
hahahahha! Oops, I shouldn't laugh lest I be called unpatriotic (yes, yes, I carry a Canadian passport).
Russoft 4 years ago
"almost identical media and entertainment", yeah, except Canadian media is very left. Not to mention there are more liberals in Canada than in the US (percentage wise at least).
Russoft 4 years ago
Our culture is very different from Canada's. Ask anybody who had live in both. However, even if availability of guns were the sole reason we have more murders in the U.S., I still don't want to be like Canada. Most murders in US are drug, gang, or domestic related. I don't use drugs, run with a gang, and I trust my wife more than some tweaked out meth head. So I will gladly live with a higher muder rate if it means I can defend myself and my family
905euclid 4 years ago
I understand what you saying. Then they would have a fighting chance. 1 Problem tho you said 1 percent are lunatics. I rekon it would be about 30 %. P.S good vid
poesneus 4 years ago
30%? I am guessing that is a bit high. If I think of 100 people I know, I can't think of more than 7 I wouldn't trust with a gun.
Russoft 4 years ago
NimRob, you are disproved by the fact that in places with control, your exact same example does occur, but the gun control laws make it hard enough for anyone to get guns, that the scenario you describe doesn't happen. In nations where guns are outlaws, the outlaws DON'T have guns.
NHLFever 4 years ago
All these "what if" scenarios that have been presented seem highly improbable. Besides, if two armed gangs want to have it out, what would prevent them from doing it with knives in a gun free country if they really wanted each other dead?
Russoft 4 years ago
NHLFever do you realize that in nations where guns are outlawed the only people with guns ARE the outlaws? If they are going to do something bad with a gun, they have no moral problem obtaining one illegally. Do you also realize how many gangs and groups in numberour countries (including ones with no gun policies) possess AK47's (and other automatic weapons) which are military assault rifels that are legally owned by NO civilian ANYWHERE?
NimRob28 4 years ago
