  • bsc min pent scale dm 10/13 10/12 10/12 10/12 10/13 10/13 Superimpose a g7 arpg into the dm pent scale. The g7 arpg is stg 5-1 10 12 10 12 10 Notice all common notes except stg 2/12th fret That is the note that defines the sound. Listen to Joe Perry to get the jist of it for rock. Add the lower octave stg 4/9th fret. Fill in the notes of an c major sacle if desired. Dm Dorian is the 2nd mode of c major. Try a Dmajor flt 3 as a substitution. Note the overlaps.

  • Is it my ears or are you using a flat 5 and Major 7 in that Dm dorian line?

Good way to get away from running the Dorian shape though, thanks.

  • when he plays in 10th position he must be using some extra notes, thats not just dorian. Not helpful when people are trying to learn.

  • Haha, that sounds fun. I gotta learn this stuff :)

  • Thank you..nicely done. I'm wanting to expand and mix the minor pent. with dorian as they're so close and the dorian gets into a jazz sound. In another video Tom Dempsey talks about using the dorian of the V for soloing..(G in the key of C i.e.)What's your take on that?

  • wouldnt that be just like using the aeolian mode?? Dorian of G is ADorian, A aeolian is in Key of C and they only have one note different aeolian has the flat 6 too
