Stevie was one cool cat. I wish I had the shows I saw of him here in ATX that are embedded in my mind on video. Not for monetary reasons, but just to share with the world. I always had plans to film him but my VHS camera at the time was crapola. I was holding out until I got a better one. Then one day on KLBJ they announced what happened. Sucks. I had to take off from work and go home. It hit me hard.
Stevie made some of the biggest break through in the name of blues music, he picked up where Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and others left off, and took it to a hole new level. Much like Muddy Waters did in the wake of T-Bone Walker, Robert Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Hobie Leadbelly Ledbetter. We need that next real dal, not just a bunch more imitators.
It still damn near brings me to tears hearing Stevie play. All of those years of seeing him play here in Austin and taking him for granted. Silly me thought he would live forever. Such a nice person. He would always take a moment to speak to you. I still remember the sweat dropping down from his nose onto his guitar like it was yesterday. KLBJ played Tin Pan Alley on Local Licks Live and he went straight up. After that getting a table up front was no longer possible. Always packed..
This is sensational! Gives me chill bumps all over. What an amazing, awesome talent that just poured out of his heart and soul. If love could have saved him, he'd have lived forever. Absolutely amazing and a stunning loss to blues lovers everywhere. Love this man and his music!
nice vid dude, FYI it's buddy guy not albert king that he's playing with. It's at Lengends in Chicago on Buddy's birthday in 1989. Released on CD titled "still called the blues". Listed on the CD as Champagne and Reefer. They also jammed to Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Leave My Girl Alone. Buddy opened the set without Stevie to a jam "Still Called the Blues"
@fastguild2007im pretty sure thats albert king. he was not close to buddy guy like he was to albert king. albert was his mentor from a young age. but who gives a shit srv was amazing. God is obviously a fan of the blues,so he brought him up to heaven. we will see him again someday, thnks for the vid,los
@losdawgluvsdoe that's Buddy Guy's birthday jam from 1989. Stevie and Buddy were really close too. I saw an interview with Buddy couple of days after Stevie died and he was in tears. I grew up on this stuff. RIP Stevie I love you always!
@thevuduchild I was going to say i dont think thats Albert King, i have that same album shown at the beginning Albert King & SRV- In Session, and this song isnt on there. Albert King has a bit of a deeper voice if you ask me, he was a larger guy. Good information though, thanks for clearing it up for me.
Agreed, Clapton had just played with him for the 1st time prior to the crash...
Eric said... "I would often be in the middle of a solo and not know what to play next, but for Stevie, everything just seemed to flow out so easily... "
@RANCHOSMOG i doubt you believe this but wouldnt you think the reason why it happened was becuase he sold his soul too the devil down at the crossroads, any man who loves the blues should know about that
clapton is out has been

Thanks for the corrected info...I only had this as a MP3. The screens are completely random and were meant as filler mostly.
Still SRV deserved a video better then I could ever make. Thanks for commenting.

@fastguild2007im. Nope that's definately Buddy Guy mate, not Albert King.

@losdawgluvsdoe I'm with you, that's Albert's voice, not Buddy's. Though, I don't doubt SRV and Buddy Guys friendship.

Bonnie Raitt used to say that Stevie was like a spring from which music came out as a flood...

The second stevie starts in, it's like a whole new level of Guitar Skill. The BIGGEST LOSS to Blues Guitar I can imagine.
Got clean off drugs and was on TOP of the Guitar World. To die tragically young, we all lost so much potential.
RIP STEVIE - Man we love & miss you brother!
Great Upload, very cool for Moviemaker Slides! 5/5
