This is a lesson video, not performance so what's the negative comparisons for. Of all books, to get started playing real flamenco his vol.2 is the best. After that I was ready to learn Sabicas and Paco de Lucia. By the way I bought one of his live records and he's a very good composer as well as performer.
he is one of the best Teachers , yes not the Greatest as a musician like Paco or whom ever , but he is better in Teaching .. every one has his thing ....
Paco De Lucia , Tomatito , and every other profissional flamenco players say that Juan Martin is the best flamenco instructor in flamenco field so who the hell you are that give grade to some one who is the God of guitar , plz plz dont give any comment or any information about anything or any one to the people if you dont know
So v good, + nice to c Juan enjoying himself (2nd half) - compas compas compas! (the 3 rules of flamenco?)
The best teachers are those who've had to learn (consciously) themselves. Those with the most natural talent or who grow up into a culture/skill are often not so good as teachers - because they have walked a different path, but with Juan one senses that he has walked the same path (maybe a lot further!).
Thank you Juan for caring enough to give those a long way behind a helping hand.
Fuerza
he has a good sound but, asides from the material being a little simple, his rhythm isn't exactly there - in the pocket. far from a maestro. he knows what he's talking about most of the time but i do feel sorry for those who know him as one of the great flamenco guitarists.
Graf 's dvd's are not bad but i found that the written music & tab jpeg that follow the music not to be in focus so this made it really difficult to follow easily.. You will then need to purchase a book that can be bought giving you the same lessons..
I think that Juan's lessons are good as they do cover all the basics and more + clear instructions on playing flamenco. But also buy Graf's computer metronome.( unless u can afford oscar herreros) Hope this helps
one think i found out were triplets and tremolos were difficult in the beginning and demands alot of precision by playing it slowly in the beginning so your hand muscles get use to the motions.
i've met Juan Martin twice when he visited Guernsey to play in concert. He is a marvelous guy and his teaching practices are to be taken up by anybody seriously wanting to learn flamenco.
he is a good player - i suggest the green and red books are best for beginners not the video shown here which are more for seasoned /intermediate advanced players.
the above lesson when i started to play was a bit difficult for the beginniner . he has these other books including dvd that give a better lesson for people starting out. cant think of the title but the colors of the book is green and other red. green is for beginners.
his lessons may be ok but his playing feel stinks!! if you want to learn flamenco go to the true masters; paco de lucia, paco pena, manolo sanlucar etc.
dude, your right that he is nothing compared to the masters you called. But he's playing does not suck man! He plays it simple but good. He is a good player so shut up
i value your opinion and am curious about what your thoughts are on juan martin's teaching approach? do you think his teachings are good for beginner flamenco guitarist?
Thank you Juan, I have been studying your books for several years, along with many others. I spent a little time in Spain, and learned quite a bit, however, your the BEST!!!
He is superb!

you wanna know why it's in English? Because the U. S. rules, and because the world speaks English.
Besides, his products are for the most part targeted to The American Market, so he needs to appeal to us.

it depends on what you are studying .
1) serranos basic flamenoc
2)martines green book
3)grafs book 1
4) classical guitar fingering
those are the basics i would recommend.
