I have to drive in tinley/orland for work, and i find that the mini van/suv drivers are the worst. they speed up to cut me off, only to slam on the brakes and turn right, even though there is no traffic behind my trailer. I call them mini tanks, cause that is the way they feel when driving them. I swear, i would rather chance driving in chicago than tinley/orland area.

This reminds me of Hoyt Street on the New Canaan Branch in Connecticut on our New Haven Line here at Metro-North. Similar thing, a angular grade crossing and people routinely do this, get past the gates and wait for the train just barely shy of fouling the track, and we have had so many near misses and strikes it's not even funny.

My brother drives trains , freight for many years, then passengers . Another driver he knew hit a van full of kids in a heavy freighter -at low speed , pushing it off the level crossing where it was stalled. (he was luckily able to slow the train significantly before impact). He gave her a lot of warning before impact and she still sat in the car -with the kids trying to start it. He freaked out and pulled her out and almost punched her in frustation.
