You're all wasting your time! Ipads overheat outside! Their tech specs tell the sad story!
From Apple's website:
Environmental requirements * Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C) * Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)
It will FREEZE in winter at 32F and OVERHEAT in summer at 95F! ANY car is WAY beyond these specs! In SC where I live, it will overhead OFF as any car is over 113F sitting in any parking lot in the sun!
Any update on the rest of the install? I'm curious to see how else you guys have integrated the iPad and how you're getting the rearview camera to work. I also have a rearview and headrest monitors and trying to figure that out. They make a breakout connector cable that allows you to solder to the different pins. For now, I'm thinking about using it to get video out.
No updates as of yet. The car has been on standby as we have gotten really busy in the shop thanks to the weather finally cooperating. We are still waiting on our 16g 3g unit and camera interface as they have been on backorder with our APPLE contact. I assure you we will post another video as soon as we get everything up and running. We just want to make sure we do it right and not rush it.
no we have not installed an iPad in a Camaro. The Smart Car is the only one we have done so far. If you would like to have your camaro done please let us know.
We tune the vehicle with our lap top outside the car via USB into the bit one. Trust us, with the size of the car the eye piece is easy to use. The bit one is not tuned with eye piece. It is strictly a volume control
r you guys gonna move the bit one processor controller? Also why not run an extension into the cabin like in the glove box, so you dont have to remove the unit when tuning, like the zapco DC series amps that use usb.
In response to the question about how it mounts. We basically mimmicked how an aftermarket dock would work. It has a little nub we built into the trim ring that holds it into place. The other thing that helps is the thickness of the seude that we wrapped the panel in.
Could you give more details on the dash bezel you made to fit the ipad? I'd like to see what you did to get it to snap in. I went a different route and I'm thinking of doing it this way... Thanks.
yes fishman's is an awesome install. His install has given our tech some new ideas for our car. One thing you need to know is that ours does not "fall out of the dash" as you stated. The dash is built in a way that the iPad actually snaps in and out of place. Trust me we have road tested it numerous times and it does not fall out of the dash.
i prefer fishman's ipad install with the automatic tilt where a button is pressed and it slightly rotates the ipad so you can slide it out.. That way it won't fall out of the dash mount..
thank you. As does yours. we are working on a wifi 12v switcher to use with the pad to control some things we had tied into the previous deck. we will let you know how it goes
Well done! I love the idea and had toyed with it in my head. It's nice to know that there are others out there that also are going this route of computer integration.
@tradersato i thought about putting an ipad in my vehicle as well, i thought of getting it put in the same way they put this one in, but re doing the whole dash is way to much work and money lol
@kHuNkHuNa10, I just wish that the Ipad had come out slightly smaller.. say 7.5" or 8" that would have been a perfect fit without hacking away at the dash... Oh well.
Oh by the way Fairfaxsurfshoprider, apart from your dumb name and comment do you have a life? thought not! save some money, go on Ebay and get a LIFE!
this looks like an amazing work. don't you guys wanna come over to germany and do this to my smart? xD

Love the overall install. Considering it's not finished, I'm quite impressed with the fit and finish thus far. Where exactly are you located?

that must be a pain having to reach up in the roof to control the master volume on the bitone?
Eiswritsat 1 year ago
Are you guys doing an audio out option from the iPad to headrest/drop down monitors?
torres1708 1 year ago
@torres1708
No we are not as this vehicle doesn't have any rear monitors. we are going to attempt to use the camera input adapter for a rear view camera.
