And one more thing for the uneducated cocksuckers if you look closely at most of the German cars wether it's Opel or Mer-fuckn-cedes 75% or more of the vehicle is made in the Checklosovakia or something like that ( not sure how to spell that place)
Pretty fuckin simple but I do beleive that Opel is responsible for Insignia's conception even though alot of the other company's have the pleasure of putting their badge on it.
For all of the tossers out there who probably can't read G.M. is the parent company and it it's been a busy cunt purchasing children or adopting all round the world vauxhall (UK) Opel (German) Buick,Saturn,Chev(USA) Holden(Australia) and so on. Get it GM is daddy and the rest are a multicultural bunch of brother and sisters.
@ZEEK38JACK - sorry bro. In North America you get the Buick Regal GS with only front wheel drive and a 2L turbo motor. Not the beast they have here :(
What you should realise is while the VXR's depreciation is notably higher than average, the BMW 535's don't exactly hold their value superbly. A 3 year old one will invariably be had for 60% of the initial asking dealer price. A 3 year old VXR would be say, 50% of the value. So we're talking a difference of perhaps £3500 after 3 years over the two. Whereas the VXR is initially £13500 less to begin with. Hrrrrm.
* However the VXR does manage 37mpg extra-urban and this is extremely respectable for a largeish saloon with that much power under the hood. This is the VXR's stomping grounds and where it should be purchased to be used, the motorways for long distance commutes, or at the track where fuel usage isn't exactly top priority and that extra 25hp and torque counts over the BM's ability. The BM is also a heavier car i believe, this is lighter and a major consideration for handling.
Whilst the BMW may have 42mpg up it's sleeve instead of the VXR's 27mpg averages, and 200g/km instead of the VXR's 250g/km, there are other considerations to be made. Primarily, driving arena. Would anyone in a heavily urban area seriously consider getting a VXR Insigna to potter around town in? I should hope not and that's where the 17mpg rate pulls the VXR down and the BMW's more refined engine keeps up (if only a bit). However the V
Well tbh if people are going to badge snob on a car with 325hp and a 2.8lir turbo V6, which is more powerful. On Vauxhall's own website you can get this OTR for £28,500. A BMW equivilant is the i535 with 305hp (slightly less but close enough), but this starts at £42,000 sports saloon! I'm sorry but for snobbery, you are paying £13,500 (the price of a family hatchback) EXTRA, and that's without many options ticked on the BMW too, whereas the VXR is packed out.
@Andrizza You are forgetting the Insignia VXR's lacklustre MPG figures and CO2 emissions and the heavy depreciation. This car is not the bargain buy you might think! The only way to buy this car brand new, is if your are a company car driver and work for a company that has a solus Vauxhall policy and even so, if, IF the company allows you to buy ANY Vauxhall.
We are now getting this car in the U.S. as a Buick Regal, but only with 4 cylinder engines, and without the tricked up suspension, 4 drive, etc., in other words, we get the chassis with the absolutely base drivetrain that can be offered, or about a third less horsepower than the Insignia VXR. It is recieving good reviews for exterior.interior quality but of course many complaints that is badly underpowered and slow. A nice car for idling about town in other words.
Who the hell do these geeks think they are I have been in one of thes cars and my god it goes like sh*it off a shovel really nice inside and a good m-way car. Talking about the badge vauxhall is one of the U.K top selling cars behind ford and volkswagon so why would the badge be a problem? idiots stick to maths homwork!!
@0708bigdave Badge snobbery is a very realistic issue witht his car. Vauxhall are pitching themselves against the Audi S4 or even BMW 335i/330i. For a car lover like myself I would give the Vauxhall a go despite the badge...but for the majority of consumers in the market for a £30000+ car unfortunately badge will play a part. Vauxhall may well be a top selling brand but thats in the lower price range. When it gets to this price bracket unfortunately badge plays a role...
there selling it here in North America as the Buick Regal GS, but when I buy mine, I'll be putting Vauxhall badged on it, cause what sounds better OPC or VXR!
Mini, though, mainly uses technology from BMW, but also from other brands.
If you look at the current generation of the MINI, you'll find engines sourced by Peugeot, although it appears as the 1.6 liter petrol engine was a joint development.
The diesel, for example, was simply bought from Peugeot - sure, Ford does the same with that engine to save costs, but I hope you get my point.
The CDTI engines are Opel designs, only Opel, Vauxhall and the one or the other Korea-Chevy use 'em.
Then in this respect Vauxhall also takes credit because the car is developed through their facility in England as well(Millbrook, the place iMotor is testing).
Then does it mean the Mini is British just because its main work load is in oxfrod? no. Which ever way you put it, it is still not German enough as BMW, mercedes, Audi and VW, which are the ONLY brands that would come into mind when people say, The Germans.
@vitessemeister Those might be the brands people from outside Germany think of first when they think of a "German" brand.
But in fact, Opel has been owned by GM since the 1920's. For a very long time the cars Opel built had no common parts at all with other brands inside GM. This has changed a bit, but there's still a lot of more or less separate technology development work going on at Opel.
Mini, though, can't be compared to this... (see next comment)
hmm I wouldn't describe Opel as truly German, more a pan-European brand since it's just designed to appeal to European people and really there is nothing in common with other European brands. the closest rival is Ford, which is another brand completely adjusted based on the market. Opel is Vauxhall is Chevrolet is Holden. all brands which are perceived to be from a specific country, but are brand engineered
@Aliasify [new Account in case you are irritated by me replying]
I know that GM has owned Opel for ages, but: the largest part of the development for their cars is done in Germany, the absolute majority of its production is in Germany as well. In my opinion, that's enough to qualify Opel as a German brand.
@NWB1989 No shit, sherlock! It's the reason why it's entirely pathetic that the presenter talks about a new weapon "to worry the Germans" with when the car actually is German!
@roggerfrogger2 Nope, the Epsilon II Platform and the Insignia were developed by Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Even though GM is American, this car is German. Check Wikipedia if you don't believe it.
Badge snobbery, yeah, if you have a bmw, merc or an audi then you're a show off prick, them cars are tacky shit, this is an amazing car and I can't wait to get it!!!
"worry the germans?" The insignia is a german engineered and built car (in Russelheim?), built by Opel (GM group brand like Vauxhall), using German technical precision and sculptural artistry.... so GM says. It will scare Audi & BMW!
From what i've sen from experienced reviewers, this still lack the proper sportiveness. But it's a step in the right direction, perhaps it's two steps in the right direction for Opel/Vauxhall.
I do agree with the remarks on looks though. It's way better looking than the old VXR.
