You have to be 17 years old to get your Private Pilot License and 18 for your Commercial. We have materials you can start reading at any time and it's always good to get a head start on your dreams! :)
The best one to start with is The Rotorcraft Flying Handbook. Gives some great basics on aerodynamics, helicopter functions, etc. Feel free to drop by and pick one up!
From our experience the students who come with a fixed wing license first have a bigger challenge getting used to the helicopters. The students who do helicopters first and then fixed wing seem to pick up fixed wing faster after they have mastered helis.
Hey would you happen to know how difficult it would be to find work as a heli pilot straight after completing the commercial license. I'm in Canada can you recommend any flight schools? Thanks for any information you can provide.
Flying an airplane is so much different then flying a heli that you will start bad because you might still have the airplane flying technique when you are flying a heli.
I think I'm going to enroll at Utah helicopter. What age do you suggest I start? I'm 14

Is it best to start flight training in a helicopter? Or is it better to go fixed wing first then transition.

What are the opportunities for employment as a helicopter pilot ? I could afford the training but I wouldn't be flying my own.

Do you need a pilots license before attempting to obtain a helicopter license ?
bulldog01209 3 years ago
No. You can start from ground zero and go directly into helicopter flight training. In fact its better that you do.
