you finally found a way to cut the scenes that it looks like a "normal" game ;)

(it was until germany scored 1-0)

but the real game was different so don't trust this video ;)

  • @TiSoMusic Just upload "the real game" yourself instead of talking bullshit. I'm tired of hearing that I cut the highlights to make it "look good". It doesn't look at all. It's just that it was not as bad as people always want to make believe.

  • Now I saw another video. Was a disgrace, really. Quite justified that it's remembered as a scandal also in Germany (can't tell for Austria).

  • @elduuude This match was fixed. Fifa must investigate this.

  • I've heard a lot about it, but watching the video now, it doesn't look the way I expected it to be. It's the last minute and the commentator and what you heard about it before, not what I see here. But then this is not the whole game, so I'm not sure I can really say anything about it. Good the last group games are at the same time, cause this could happen anytime otherwise. With many other teams, this is not at all a German or Austrian thing.

  • 1 team, 22 players..........

  • Ouch... Remerbering this one. I was nearly 12 Years old when I saw the "match" on TV. I did not understand the consequences fully, but still remember what my parents and some other people say about this fraud. Seeing it with mature eyes again all I can say is that it was a major disgrace, a shame for the german football and for every fan.

And, it lead to a change of rules. From that tournament onward, the last games of the group stage will always be carried out at the same time.

  • Sad to see this "game" , quite a shame. Even more sad that some games at the 2010 world cup have been worse/with less action!

  • What do you expect?

Algeria beating the hell of Germany

    and trying to revenge

    Cowards

  • Looking back now, you have to wonder why FIFA never changed the rules following Agentina's victory against Peru in 78. I personally don't see much wrong with the way this match went. Its much like some world cup matches of today

  • I thought this match would be alot worse than it is- both teams just passing the ball in their own half and turning back when they happen to get forward. Truth is, this doesn't look much different from alot of games I see now...

I think the crowd just got it into their heads that there was collusion between the 2 and it took a life of it's own. Just look at the reactions here: people are saying "oh, that's terrible" just because that's what everyone else says...

  • Teams like Austria do this in club football all the time, especially fighting relegation holding on for a draw at top teams, or a narrow defeat to preserve goal difference. Yes the second half was quite defensive, but it was simply about holding onto a result which suited both teams, more important than winning beautifully. Those who like to hold the moral high ground and call this game a "disgrace" are just bandwagon jumpers.

  • I agree with those who can't see what the fuss was about. Yes Austria could have attacked more but they were playing the defending European Champions FFS! After going 1-0 down any attempt at equalising would leave them vulnerable to a 2nd German goal on the break and their WC place on a knife edge. Likewise Germany were just happy to play safe and not be overconfident against a team that had just beaten Algeria who beat them.

  • This Game is BETTER, than every Austrian Game in the last years ...Austrian Football is terrible at the moment

  • So in other words, Germany and Austria made a deal that Germany would win with exactly 1 goal only because then Algeria wouldn't have had enough points to advance?

Or am I understanding this different?

  • @XiahouYuan111 Germany could win by a max. of 2 goals, but if they scores 3, Austria would be out because of the goal-difference

  • Comment removed

  • The crowd says "Fuera! Fuera!". Out out with these corrupt mofos.

  • Part 2????? What? This farse had more than one part?

  • the legendary non-aggression pact game...

  • This is pretty much two teams passing over the field and then passing the other teams goalkeeper

  • I'm a bit confused, from the pictures it just looks like a boring game, both sides being defensive, but nothing suspicious, it's just like when you see two sides trying to hold on for a draw or get to a penalty shootout. Then again, the German commentators (and I believe the English commentators) implied that this was a disgrace and it sounds like the crowd are really p*ssed off! Maybe highlights give the wrong impression? It's only the last minute they just pass the ball about

  • @ebeneezer3211 its pretty obvious that Austria are showing no urgency in trying to score for a team that's losing...

  • WOW, enormes Tempo... *lol*

  • Schande der Nationen.

Schätze, zu der Zeit "Fussballdeutschland" auszurufen war nicht gerade cool ^^.

  • We saw the same today in the last stages of the Spain-Chile game, right?

  • @fetfet13

Not the same, the other two teams of the group were playing at the same time and if Honduras scored, Chile was out. In 1982, Argelia had already played the thrid game of the round.

  • just because both teams dont break their necks every 5 seconds doesnt mean collusion. good luck following a commentator's remarks as gospel.

  • seems like Germany should have scored like 3 goals in the first half, and maybe 1 more in the 2nd to beat them 4-0 or so. I see why FIFA schedules the 3rd game of each group to occur simulataneously so that teams can't conspire like this.

  • but they didnt play the rest of the tournament like that... or did they? anyway that's not the point, im just saying

  • Algerien hatte damals selbst die Möglichkeit gehabt weiter zu kommen, mit drei Siegen wären sie nicht rausgeflogen. Aber was solls so sind sie nun halt mal ausgeschieden.

  • actually, it doesn't look too different from today's world cup matches

  • @jradetzky Yeah I have to agree. These two clips were all I've ever seen of the match, and it doesn't look nearly as bad as I had heard. Neither team were attacking hard, but they were still making tackles and taking shots. It looked exactly the same as when you watch a team nowadays holding onto their lead and tightening things up to keep the score low. The difference is just that the losing team were also tightened up to prevent going another goal down. It wasn't so much a fix, as a stalemate.

  • @94dgrif I agree it doesn't look nearly as bad as I'd imagined. Yes, a lack of commitment but plenty of long passes and tackles. I pictured them literally standing still or just passing it between two people.

  • @94dgrif we only saw the highlights though not the full match

  • @feelsg00dman Considering the bad rep of this game, it's remarkable that 20 minutes of highlights could be distilled from it. There are countless games today where you'd struggle to come up with 5 minutes of highlights!

  • @WadeMcDuffin

Most of what you posted was them passing the ball between each other though

  • @JLAEBB

That's because the game was rigged, duh.

  • @94dgrif

Dude back then Germany was a team, that easily scored 4 goals in a game.

  • @jradetzky thats what i said.

  • very shame

  • what a disgrace to the sport. and poor algeria. this is fucked up

  • Can anybody blame either team? Both teams only had something to lose by playing hard.

If you had a desk job, and got paid your full salary if you just sat there and did nothing, or got paid half your salary to work hard and do the best job possible (with the possibility of being fired for doing so) which would you choose?

  • @joepod

I'd chose to play in the spirit of the game, you've completely missed the point. what about the fans who spent their hard earned salary to watch this shit?

  • @joepod it's called sportsmanship

  • Algeria!!! Algeria!!! Algeria!!! Algeria!!! Algeria!!!

  • Still looks better than France-Uruguay

  • This match is shame of football

  • who cares we won jejeje ya tu sabes :D

  • SICKENING

  • Plus Algeria sucks anyway and had no business qualifying so these shenanigans don't bother me too much. If a real team had been conspired against like Italy or Brazil, then it would be wrong. But Algeria is hardly a strong soccer team. (They've qualified for what, 2 World Cups? Yeah, real strong!)

  • @PirateEyepatch

but don't you think that is the point of the world cup, to give the minnows a chance, whats the point of watching the same old teams playing ach other, in some predictable dribble.

Look at Turkey Korea and Senegal at 02' that was what made the world cup special, Korea vs Italy, where the Koreans scored a golden goal was a much more exciting game than the final itself, but you are too narrow minded to see that since u will consider them minnows.

  • Comment removed

  • @PirateEyepatch you are jack ass. They beat Germany & Chile that year. They wouldn't have needed to conspire against them if Algeria really sucked

  • @PirateEyepatch you know nothing, they had a fantastic team in the 80s, but due to the civil war in the early 90s, sport wasnt important at all. Only recently are they starting to build sport back up.

I suggest you read some books.

  • Way to snub Algeria, bums.

  • Shameful

    Shameful

  • as a german, i am ashamed of this :(

in the 80s we had a arogant team...

...but it was an another time and i dont think, that this could happen again

  • @kotstulle1983 It would most definitely happen again, although not to this extent (because of simultaneous play). A few cups ago, Mexico and Italy found out the result in the other game would qualify both if their current result stood. There were about five minutes left in the game. Guess what they did? They just passed it back and forth. Austria and Germany knew they'd both go through so why the hell risk injury cards. It's wrong but they did what they had to and the rules were changed.

  • @PirateEyepatch

they were good enough to beat the hell out of Germany , Austria and Germany closed a deal even before the game started it was a disgrase for both teams it is a game they should not be proud of .

it is true they Algeria made it twice before this one to the world cup and their first was in 1982 and they left a mark that scared the hell out of Germany and were not given a chance to prove what they are capable of like Senegal and Turkey did in 02 or like Croatia did in 98 .

  • As someone of Egyptian heritage who hates Algeria to the bone, even I think that was bad...

  • @boratisgod Algerians don't hate you... they petty you !

  • @vivadz meh, I'll live. Footballs a passionate thing...

  • This game is known as the second anscluss for good reason.Outrageous.

  • SHAMEFUL !!!!

  • lol

  • fixed match

  • Seeing this video, I think is not true the story of the agreement between Germany and Austria in this game. I see Germany attacking and trying to make some playing. It's only in the last minute when Germany start to pass ball to the sides expecting the end.

  • Actually, around the 9th minute of this video, the GERMAN commentator starts to complain. Among the things he says are "What will they write, my God, in the entire football world tomorrow." also "I don't belong to those that tomorrow will say, 'whatever, we just made it to the next round'. What happened today is simply a disgrace and there is really no other way to call it." Btw, I also think that from the clip, it is not that bad, but hearing the ARD narrator really tells the whole story.

  • @nothingnoonenever It was fixed match.

  • Schande über beide Teams. Es sieht aus wie der Euro 2004 Spiel zwischen Schweden und Dänemark für beseitigt Italien

  • hätte italien 7:0 gegen bulgarien gewonnen wären sie weiter gewesen

  • west germany ahhhh***shit

  • hahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahaahahahahahaha

  • What a shame!

  • Lothar Matthäus comes on as a substitute for his first of FIVE World Cup tournaments! What a player!

  • Was this cheating? No.

But it sure as hell wasn't football either.

  • stupid idiot

  • srsly, what's the big deal. of course i'd be pissed off too, if i were on the algerian team, but why would any of the teams exhaust themselves any further if they know, they're in the next round? it's a logical consequence.

i mean, nobody complains about tactical fouls, but this game is a scandal?

    bullshit!

  • @ ipwnyounp

the scandal is that they teamed up. if both of them just wanted to play down the clock without having it talked over, i'd agree with you.

but it's just unfair if 2 teams make a deal to knock out the other half of the group by planning the outcome of their game.

  • They could have put up their second team/substitutes in the field, these players would play the game like it should have been played!

Also it is unfair to Algeria AND unfair to the OWN fans. I wouldn't like to TRAVEL to another country for a tournament then PAY much money for a seat only to see my team play like SHIT.

No disrespect to Germany/Austria but this game was played without honour. Its the most unfair game of the World Cup history Because about everyone got fucked except the own team

  • deswegn lossn uns niemehr in ana gruppn spueln.

  • Hand in Hand we kicked out Algeria. We can learn, that we are strong together

  • What a disgrace. The Austrians were happy with the defeat of 1-0. They never tried to score. Neither did the Germans try to add a goal. Shame ! If this happens on the field, what happens then behind closed doors ?

  • ha ha ha ha ha ....... secret plot to end 1-0 & eliminate Algeria.

  • Argelia, Argeliaª!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • The best match West Germany v Austria is 2:0 April 1981 and 3:0 October 1983 with the wonderful Bernd Schuster.

    Darious- Argentine.

  • shame on you german and austrian! really shame

  • partido vendidoooo... que lamentable...

  • Dies war ein Spiel verkauft ...... bedauerlich, dass ....

  • Algeria could win the world cup if the rules were better!

  • Algeria could win the world cup if they were the only team competing (and even then I'm not too sure...)

  • geil :D:D

  • Effizient und clever, so wird es gemacht.

  • Watching this video simply makes me sick...and makes me feel very sorry for Algeria.
