  • One of the greatest artists who ever lived, irrespective of genre-Sylvester Stewart aka Sly. I am in awe of this genius, this giant who wrote the soundtrack of my formative years from the 60's to the Fresh album. Of special note "Sex Machine", "Time", "In Time", "Thankful & Thoughtful" and the Woodstock performance. A hard act to follow, in a class by himself. Without paralell. Lyrics, vocals, arrangements, keys, harp, guitar. Only once in a lifetime. krxn11

  • I thought being an otaku was a bad thing

  • In Japan, "otaku" is used as the derogatory term in a meaning without a good impression.

But please grasp all of people called otaku is not bad essentially.

    ...Otaku3

  • @60otaku3 In Japan, Hello Kitty=Hell.

  • Why is "Hello Kitty" hell??

    I cannot understand that meaning.

    ...Otaku3

  • I just watched an advertisement on the msnbc cable news network on how three of the 'Morning Joe' anchors start their days using this very song! Great song which will never go out of style!

  • I was surprise that Morning Joe used this as their long promo music choice!!! GO JOE!!

  • SLY IS THE MAN ALWAYS!!!!

  • Classic R&B at it's best!

  • best is 1:08 ! :D

  • We grew up on this music. It had a great message and was always upbeat, too. I miss positive people who liked to have fun. Maybe we will move forward to a better time after 2012. It sure looks that way.

  • Some of the greatest tunes of our times come from this band.

  • ...Just last month on TV Sly was homeless and on the street in LA...Sad...

  • And then came Sly. And the world shook.. and the people danced... and it was gone. Larry's bassline is classic! Thanks, Otaku!!

  • You're welcome, teddibearsworld-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • Sounds great! But, who's that short-haired dude on the album cover?

  • A short-haired dude is Sly Stone.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • Possibile che Sly sia diventato un povero barbone?!

  • This is great

  • Black Knight! haha

  • @ZombieHouseFresnoCA Great Movie and thats exactly what I thought when I heard this song too..haha

  • Used to play this at my bar in the early 70's along with Allman Bros, Cactus, Black Sabbath, Humble Pie, Zepplin.....Wow what a flashback!

  • fuzz bass!!

  • Yesss! LOVE THIS. And it reminded me of Shrek! :')

  • I remember this song as a kid, at the Yuma County state fair, it was playing on a ride the flying bobbs, over and over again.

  • One of the most underrated bands EVER! The man not only created great songs but put together a band of phenomenal musicians of different races and genders in a time when that was almost unheard of. WAY ahead of their time!

  • im 16. this is my JAM! :~)

  • True Rock & Roll

    And a Drumers Dream !!!!!

  • @ WSenator Yes, that's Sly, and that is a 'Fro hairdo, circa 1968. Think he's wearing a cape, too. That style was pretty short-lived.

  • @40Waxx I think his cape was the "Funky Sherlock Holmes" Look! *LOL*

  • one of the most influential song in rock history!

  • I tried sitting still to this and it did NOT work. I love songs with beats like this.

  • it's impossible to sit still while this song is playing xD

  • Still fabulous!!!!

  • Is that Sly sitting up front, wearing brown? WITH NO 'FRO? This MUST have been a long time ago!

  • Never get tired of this one Otaku3!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for the comment, Terischowchow-san!!

  • All I can say is...this is a very clean copy, it's probably off of a CD. I am an old DJ (live performer) in front of a dancing croud. I played this before New York played it, because I heard it played on WKBW Buffalo, and I mixed two copies together, long long long before it was the thing to do. I could make the tune last 8 minutes or twenty minutes. And I saw Sly, live, at the "Electric Circus" about 4 weeks before Woodstock............Bill

  • @ohboy904 Know whatcha mean about taking two 45's and two turntables in the production room and making them longer. Hard to find a good "break" to do that,,but it can be done. I used to take "Good Lovin" by the Rascals and at that break at the end put "just about anything in there" then finish the song. ONE THE AIR for 22yrs. TheMojoMan*com

  • @joshdominick i think its egg man by the beastie boys, i read it online awhile back and it said they got the bass line from this song

  • i remember dancing to this when watching the black night !!! awesome movie ty 60otaku3

  • You're welcome, roron5-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • @roron5

haha martin lawrence was hilarious in that movie

  • I LOVE THIS BAND! (But...they did have a "side" note ..very handsome white drummer and NO BODY CARED to mention it because it was not worth mentioning)

Just sayin because Chinese and Italian month is coming up and I don't know if my yarmulke made from old Sari's is acceptable?

  • Rock Funk baby

  • Gotta love it! And yeah, you can't sit still! Thanks Otaku3!

  • You're welcome, sunnycat46-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @60otaku3 I love this song, thanks for the upload

  • You're welcome, psadpoiafsdf-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • You just can't sit still listening to this one!

  • "Listen to the voices!" Dig it! This is the funk that rocks and moves, fills the heart with anti-blues.

  • Can anybody explain why I cannot find the ORIGINAL hit single mix in stereo? History seems to have been rewritten. When this was a hit in '68 (on a mono 45), the opening 16 seconds was followed by the DAAANCE TO THE MUSIC!! chant several times. But ever since then, whenever I hear this on the radio, or wherever it shows up on YT, we now get the acapella bit after the opening. It does NOT belong in this position, and just sounds WRONG! Anybody got any ideas as to why this has been done?

  • Yah!! yah yah yah!

    daaaance too the music!!

  • This kicks!!! How can anyone who knows this not try and sing along??? Irresistable!!!

  • Best song for housecleaning ever, LOL!

  • Housecleaning?

    What's that supposed to mean??

    ...Otaku3

  • @60otaku3 - I hate to clean, so I put on Sly and feel so good I don't mind the work. I learned this "tactic" from my mom, who was a fabulous concert-level pianist. She loved rock and funk music, too, not just the classics. On Saturday mornings, back in the 60s and 70s, we'd tune into something like America's Top 40 radio program, turn up the music and dance while we cleaned the house. So much fun, and now I do this with my kids. I have several Sly songs on my iPod. Thanks for the upload. ;-)

  • Oh, you're welcome lynfendleyfoster-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @lynfendleyfoster I do the same thing!!!! It's the best thing to get your mind off the chores! Sly is one of THE BEST for this. Not only is it great music, it brings back wonderful memories too. I still remember when this song was new! ;-) Thanks Otaku3.

  • @60otaku3 to clean your house.

  • @60otaku3

Its what women do when they aint makin samiches.

  • @lynfendleyfoster *LOL*! Sure Is!!! Maybe i'll even drop a few pounds cleaning & dancing to this! Sly was AWESOME!

  • This is not Disco! This is funk!

  • Oh wow. This is what was used in the move Black Knight? Had no idea.

  • Best version is the one played at Woodstock in 1969

Oh boy. lol Anyway, all the parents/kids were giving me and moms weird looks, but we didn't care (uptight you know?). It was what I wanted to share, which is basically my love of music, in the only way that I knew how to articulate at that age. I'll never forget that day. I've had a love affair with music ever since. Thanks mom. Peace. : )
