I bet if you found out the attributes of the gases inside the glass, you could adjust the frequency of the globe to preform the same way in a different gas (oxygen).
Sort of like how people can levitate any object with the right frequency, you can do the same with gas.
My guess is that in order to find a frequency that matches, you'd basically build a Tesla coil, woohoo for HAARP!
There is no need to build a Tesla coil which is more tricky & expensive to tune. Ruhmkorff coil will suffice if you drive it with solide state MOSFET being chopped with a square wave generator with duty cycle control.
