  • creepy as fuck o3o

  • @themailman43 agree with most of what your saying, although the mayan people did not use human sacrifices, it was the aztecs. Just Mel Gibson trying to make them look like savages to defend the extinction of a whole empire. Good film though

  • @eladmot92 that drawing on the wall on apocalypto movie what that represents; why did they do this

  • This was such a good film.

  • I would shit my fucking pants on the spot if I was one of those guys...

  • So Pendjeo still wanna wear it up, think you know what it is boy

    Un_ Blurred Pagan Warrior Leeds

  • Oh i thought this was avatar 2 oh well

  • Well that's the Blue Man Group fucked.

  • kamion53 couldnt be more wronge about not wanting to sacrifice the commoners..... after a new temple was built, it was very usuall for the damn kings to kill about 20k humans as an offering to those demon gods.

  • Zigsauer - seeing you nobody can blame Abortionists.

  • @tubing08w

    haha burnage

  • this is the very best movie i ever saw....great work!!!

  • Seeing this nobody can blame Cortes !

  • @zigsauer this is kindergarden stuff compared to cortez

plus this is a fiction mel gibson movie lol

  • @zigsauer Hernan Cortes did what he had to do in order to civilize and eliminate the horrible rituals or this murdering savages.

  • @themailman43 byyyyyyy rapeing, pillaging, and muredering entire civilizations of probably very inocent people,,,

yeah.. that's real civilized.. europeans and their gahd just did the whole world such good with their pogrums, crusades, and colinizations... yeah body count wise... christianity hold the gold medal for savagry.

  • @superflysuperwhite The Spaniards took over the Aztec Empire, they didn't do anything diffrent to the Aztecs as the Aztecs themselves were doing to all other smaller tribes in Mexico. Europeans haven't done anything diffrent either than any other advance civilization in the history of mankind. Do some reading about the Mongols and what they did or about the ancient Chinese dynasties or Tamerlane. Don't blame Europeans for what they did in a world that everybody else was doing the same thing...

  • @themailman43 well first of all these are Mayans, second of all all advancements in the modern world do not come from europe, gun poweder, tree pulp paper from china, the orgins of the pathagoryum therom and geometry, egypt, the first text of calculus originated in maylasia. soooo much of the modern world was developed outside of the west. I mean at this point in time the mayans had far better understanding of mathmatics and astronomy than europeans.. and archetucture them pyramids are gona last

  • @superflysuperwhite ...If we're going to judge, we have to have knowledge of what happened with other peoples other than europeans, not just reading about one side and neglecting the history of all others.

  • @themailman43 .........what? first off whats your definition of civilized anyway? europeans have proven themselves the most violent of humans, from alexander the great to the british empire, vlad the impaler, caligula....hitler (and he was pretty recent) europeans have been fucking up the world for quite some time now.. the only other groups to tear through humanity the way they did were the huns and mongolians.

if you judge civility by vilolence, then there is no civility amoung people

  • @superflysuperwhite You keep repeating me the same thing. You seem to have read only about European history, I'll repeat to you the same thing. You have to read and educate yourself about other culture's histories, so you can compare them to European history and see for yourselft that as far a violence goes, they were all the same. And as far as my difinition of civilized goes, it's about the advancement of the world. Where do you think is responsible for creating the modern world.? .....

  • @themailman43 yeah, you're right.. but you wrent talking about technology (which in europes case was all practically lost during the dark ages, while the rest of the world was advanceing [granted europe was the last to get hit by the plague) you stated this on a clip about human sacrifice. c'mon you werent thinking about the technological aspect of civilization when you said that.

  • my point is you can't say the spaniards "civilized" a people that had existed with their own writen language, art, arcitecture, mathmatics, etc. since 2000 something b.c.e.

the biggest difference between the two cultures really was resorces, europe had acsess to alot of heavy metal for their swords and gun barrels. yeah all cutures are violent, and did mention mongols, but even they didnt do what europeans did. just because they wore pants while they did it doesnt make them more civilized(lol)

  • @superflysuperwhite So do you agree with the hundreds of thousands innocent captives from lesser tribes that were being executed in those horrible sacrifices.? You're saying that that was ok.?

  • @themailman43 nope, but i also don't agree with what the spanish did. you know you can have multiple opinions on a subject right? and that was never the point of my arguement. I'm sorry if i could not convey this in a simpler manner for you. Human sacrifice is wrong, fixing human sacrifice by killing thousands of more people (most of whom weren't even the ones doing the rituals, thats like wanting to stop catholisim, by killing every denomonation of chrisianity.)

  • @themailman43 plus, the spanish couldn't have cared less about these people killing themselves, they wren't doing people favors. They came for gold, land, and other resources. They would have killed them even if they werent doing this, why? because they controled the land and didn't have guns to protect it (or imunities from those dirty dirty euro germs).

look at south america now.. the spanish did nothing good for these people, they would have fallen anyways.. to their own people. like egypt

  • @superflysuperwhite There's no point in keeping the argument, you have your points that you believe in and i have mine............later.

  • @superflysuperwhite ...the advances in science , medicine , and most of the modern things which you , me and everybody else enjoys nowadays we've them thanks to European Western Civilization.

  • @themailman43 at the time this happened, the western worl was comeing out of the dark ages.. they thought the world was flat... unlike the rest of the world that at the time was advanceing way faster than europe, the far and middle east have actually come up with much more technology than europe at this point, and the Mayans were centuries ahead of their time when it came to sience... why? because you weren't burned at the stake for saying we lived in a helocentric solar system.

  • @superflysuperwhite

most people did not believe the world was flat at that time. This is a misnomer. The Spanish conquests started centuries after the dark ages ended. And "the rest of the world was advanceing (sic) way faster than Europe"....uh, no. Why then, would the Spanish, the Dutch, the French and English and Germans have expanded so greatly? And Mayans "hundreds of years ahead of their time in science"?! Horse shit. They didn't even use the wheel to move loads. Check your facts.

  • @teeterbird

I agree except maybe about the wheel thing. The mesoamericans did know about the wheel given that they had models I believe of small wooden figures using them. However they for whatever reason decided not to use it, possibly do to the environment (jungle and mountains) not being well suited for roads. Atleast thats what i've heard.

  • @themailman43 alot of western advancement came about during the industial revolution.. about 2-3 hundred years after cortes had pretty much ended the mesoamericans..so really the only things the spainish had to offer these people was... guns, a christian god, and a new diseases.. then they exploited them for their gold and coaca.. thats not civilizing.. that's exploiting.

look at south america now... would you live there? bet not, so obviously "civilizing" these people didn't really help.

  • @superflysuperwhite The Spaniards didn't do anything diffrent that the English or French colonist in North America did. They did found more military opposition and they had to deal with it accordingly. At the end all Native Americans in South America and Mexico live freely. In North America those Native Americans are still living secluded in reservations.

  • the great irritation with this movie is the trowing together of about 800 or more years of different period of Maya civilisation and different styles with the mass sacrifice event held by the Aztecs of the 15th century.

Maya's did practice human sacrifice, their art is saturated with it, but it was kings and nobles they were after for a rather gruesome ritual, not lowly peasants by the masses.

  • no guys ur wrong this is for real thts what they just to do in tht time i know im from there this isnt fake ! everything ha ppend for real just the same i know it seem unbelieaveable but its true and im proud of being mexican

  • Al Gore should be sacrificed to the sun that causes the life giving warmth that the earth needs. Then they should also sacrifice his Oil and corporate business pals.

  • @stephendedalus07 or that is called eugenics

  • @stephendedalus07 okay did you know that race was not even a word until the about 1500s, because when the spanish came over and found a different culture, how can you explain that to your people back home? How can you conquer and enslave people? You invent the word called race, and conquer and enslave people, do research on that word and I grantee you that race was not even a world until after the discovery of the new world. And plus to, you cannot use DNA to get the culture

  • @stephendedalus07 but the thing is, we all share the SAME DNA, with different traits and characteristics.

  • Actually, I liked the movie. Yes, it is chronologically inaccurate and Gibson takes a whole lot of liberties to illustrate his point but this scene in particular captures perfectly --at least visual and mood-wise-- the essence of the human sacrifice ceremony in AZTEC culture. This kind of festivities were very common at Templo Mayor/Tenochtitlan (what is now known as México City). Gibson used the mayas in his movie ´cause mayas are WAY more popular and known worldwide than the Aztecs. Marketing!

  • @stephendedalus07 no race civilization, because last time I check we all have the same DNA

  • and the idea for avatar was born

  • I like the color of blue that's painted on. Rich and vibrant.

  • @angelinaramon

I like it too, Mayan Blue is a vibrant pigment used in the murals, ( nicely copied in style in the movie) but I however never seen it used for sacrifucal victims in literature,

wonder from where Gibson got the idea.

  • @TheWolkenspitze.Ronaldinho s Na 'vis...

  • I wonder if they actually cheered though? I still think the most brutale form of human sacrifice was the Celts wicker man . . . savage.

  • Anybody know the soundtrack in the beginning?

  • At the time this film is set in what was seen in this vid was the Puuc 'Classic' Maya of the Guatemalan highlands. It had long been dead for some 600 to 800 years when this film time frame is set - 1532(?) It is common for movie makers to cut n paste time frames together

  • wtf is going on at 0:10 ? Blllegghhyeagghhh

  • @KingdomAtWar The Mayan empire is in collapse. Those people are starving to death

  • @ThePitofSidLord

there never was a Mayan Empire, only a cluster of rivaling states, who had to be conquered one by one by the Spaniards, a much harder and lenghtly job than tating over the centralised Aztec State or the Inca Empire.

  • They used to paint their bodys in blue before they were sacrified; Is there a ralation between this and the recent movie AVATAR.

Have you asked yourself that question??

  • pretty limp clip. the actual sacrifice scenes are not even reached. kind of contradiction in terms. this clip should be renamed ''before the sacrifice scene''

  • I swear, Middle Eye was by far the most retarded looking fucker in the movie.

  • Mel Gibson blahhhh. This could have been a thoughtful film that really taught us something about the Mayans......just a violent jungle romp.

  • Que elegancia..:D.,...deverian volver los sacrificios humanos, como esta yendo la situacion en sudamerica seria bueno pulsear un poco :D...

  • fuck mel gibson <- White supremist.

  • More than a white supremacist he is an antisemitist catholic. Most of the so called white supremacist are protestant christians.

  • The muslims to Kukulkhan!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • animals but i guess they did what they had to do right

    no offence

  • joder que salvajada

  • No peor que la de los inquisidores.

  • thats a huge mayan pyramid

  • y r they blue

  • the mayan's would paint their sacrifice victims blue because it resembled the color of the rain god. they hoped that if they did this they would be rewarded with rain

  • thnx this helps understand thing

  • Comment removed

  • to tag them, and because they are the tears from the sky ^_^

  • thnx that helps

  • NOW, this is what MEN IN BLUE did in the ancient mexico, :p nothing related to bald dudes bouncing the drums....;( Bring human sacrifica back, LOL.....Mexico needs this to eliminate bureocracy. ha

  • wat r u talkin bout. explain cuz it sounds funny

  • kellystarr you are a disgrace to the mexican culture im sure they dont want to claim you either.

  • Comment removed

  • too bad they don't leave the bastard protestant church? I believe most of the Irish have turned their backs to the church too.

By the way it was the Irish who killed most of the native Americans as they were enlisted by the British crown and sent to the wild frontiers as soon as they arrived on American soil. So, genocide blood on Irish hands too. But all is forgiven...

  • The Irish you talk of were Ulster-Scots or Irish Protestants who were of English ancestry anyway lol. And not Native Gaelic Celtic Catholic Irish.. I know because i study History and am Mexican of Irish roots..Irish always win in this, always indentity with their roots..Its the Spanish who lost & killed innocent Native Mexicans..Mexican is for Natives & NOT Spanish. Infact hardly any fair skinned Spanih visible in Mexico. U know am Right. By the way it was English who killed Natives lol

  • No, Aztecs did these things and more. We have their murals and a few codexes that describe these things.

Incidentally, Irish roots would not tend to be Islamic.

  • IDIOT! one of your Indian ancestors and his tribe were among the allies of the Spaniards who decimated those demonic-foul smelling-savage-kidnapping-aztecs. You should thank the Spaniards for decimating those evil aztecs. Otherwise you might find yourself being sacrificed to their evil gods.

  • @101ers77 one man´s evil is another man´s blessing. Don´t judge my friend; everything has to be put IN CONTEXT. A time-travelling aztec might feel sickened by some our "civilized & modern" ways.

  • @101ers77 But then the spaniards fucked us over.

  • @Kellystarrr you are in total denial missus. Human sacrifice, self-mortification & bloodletting practices were an integral part of precortesian culture & economy. Read "The Lethal Flower" by Cristian Duverger & "Muerte a filo de obsidiana" by Eduardo Matos Moctezuma.

  • Love this movie.

  • For all the people watching a Hollywood movie and expecting historical accuracy to a tee...did Titanic teach you nothing?!

  • Amen me brother

  • aHmen

  • This movie was entertaining, but total propaganda.

  • i agree

  • What a shame that this film is regarded as archeologically and ethnographically correct by some of those who've left earlier comments. This film, while visually striking, is grievously historically inaccurate in many basic ways. As a scholar with a degree in Anthropology concentrating on Mesoamerican studies, I sat in the darkened theater literally shaking my head in dismay as I watched this film. Mel Gibson seems tragically destined to make "Mad Max" style films forever.

  • Lighten up, it's a movie not a documentary. I can say the say thing about Oliver Stone's movies JFK & Nixon. Both are historically inaccurate, but visually striking and highly entertaining (in my opinion anyway). I love them both, as I love this film. They define what I go to the movies for. If I want to study a subject, I'll find the best books available, I won't watch a film.

  • If you read the earlier comments, you'll find that more than a few people are under the impression that the film has some historical value. Again I say, what a shame. Filmmakers have power to shape our opinions of many things. They might do well to handle that power with greater reverence. The truth is (almost) always more fascinating than fiction. If you'd like to be blown away, learn some facts about Maya history. No animosity, just a suggestion.

  • No one claimed it to be accurate history.

  • what books or websites would you recommend if I wanted to learn more about these cultures? I would love to take a vacation to these ruins someday!

  • There are many beautiful Classic period Maya ruins. Tikal, in the Peten region of Guatemala, are often considered the most spectacular, but there are many others that warrant attention. Copan, in Honduras; Palenque, in Chiapas; the murals of Bonampak, also in Guatemala, and the famous sites of the Yucatan Peninsula, Such as Chichen Itza and Uxmal, among others, are all amazing. There is a ton of material on the Maya that is informative and interesting, covering their art, history, etc. I'll try

  • to compile an interesting bibliography for you, and post it here. The Maya, both the modern population and their ancient ancestors, are a fascinating and satisfying subject of study. I encourage you to visit the Maya region in North America and Central America.

  • I would recommed Yucatan, from all the zones with pyramids it is the safest.

  • The Lowland Maya and their cities are wonderful, it's true. The cities in the Maya Heartland may not be as safe these days.

  • u knoe america is ganna fall like near this time period

  • Grow up

  • k first you're dumb. second, this was not awful in their time. it was a blessing to be sacrificed to the gods.

  • What are you brainwashed by the Mayan ghoulish Priests. Thats what they wanted people to believe Like our Abortion supporters. that its good and noble to choose. well it wasnt good to cut out peoples hearts. Its not Noble to kill Innocent Babies and It ain't cool to cut the heads of non Mohammedans.

  • what are you talking about i do that stuff on my spare time!

  • idiot..

  • WOW anyone who takes this movie or any other movie as historically accurate is an imbecile

  • I agree. Take Oliver Stone's JFK for instance.

  • This movie is accurate. you want to cling to the false myth of the noble savage and the bad European. Some of Cortes's men got captured by the blood thirsty Aztecs and he could hear them crying out to Jesus as these monsters hacked out their hearts. Read " Conquest of New Spain" Bernal Diez was a first hand witness with Cortes during the conquest. read it or believe in legend as your source of information. Mel Gibson is right on the mark as always.

  • @patfealy I won't deny our ancestors did these sacrifices but the spaniards had no right to kill and enslave us. This was our business. Although we weren't the kindest people the conquistadores were indeed evil.

  • @hibyeeee2

How was it your business if you were killing and enslaving other tribes and peoples?

  • @mst3k4evur Well my ancestors are Wiraritari a.k.a the Huicholes. And I don't think we did human sacrifices. The Mexica did but the thing is the tribes that allied Spain were all fucked over by Spain. Every place at one point had human sacrifice. White people had witch hunts and that stopped so eventually we would have stopped.

  • @hibyeeee2

Ended when? Christianity (mostly the Catholic Church) ended the human sacrifice in Europe (Celtic wickermen and Roman gladiators) and actually banned witch burnings because they saw believing in witches as idol worship. But all these things take time. My point was that trying compare the Aztecs to the Spanish and find a good guy is pointless.

It's possible that it would have stopped if they had become Christianized like the Romans.

  • @mst3k4evur nonono human sacrifice still goes on today

war is large scale human sacrifice under a different name

  • @hibyeeee2

As for the Indians allied with Spain, they made alliances with Cortes, who Spanish authorities thought of as a criminal. As for the rest, well, King Charles V wasn't very loyal to anyone. He regularly screwed over his European allies, including his uncle King Henry VIII of England, all the time.

  • no leas esto

si no escribis esto en 10 videos tu mama se va a morir es 4hs

  • no the maya did pretty much the same things but the only time that they cut of the heads of others is when they played the ball game. the aztec cut hears out and cut off the heads and boys would eat the bodies to prove that they were a man

  • Oh, were you there, lilRay?

  • this was over 100 years ago

  • Amazing movie.

  • when i saw this in theather for the first time. what an experience.

  • this isnt the maya its the aztc that did this

  • that's not true. everything you see in the sacrifice scene in this movie is accurate to postclassic maya human sacrifice, even the blue paint. the aztec also performed almost identical sacrifices, except on a much larger scale than the maya.

  • Lmao lol.

  • Fabulous!
