The song was NOT written for "blue babies". The song was written by Tommy Lindsay as an apology to his mother for all the heartache he caused her as a teenager. He went into the army and got his act together. But by the time he got back to Hawaii, before he could sing the song for his mother she died. For years he refused to perform the song. He finally recorded the song on condition that it would not leave Hawaii until after he died.
@ohiopadre@ohiopadre Oh Gosh I can feel the agression in your writings. Please note I wrote "I THINK" and then maybe they must of used it here (in NZ or wherever) to promote cot death or something. Anyway I have had comments from the Grandaughter of the real songwriter Lessie Lyle. Google Lessie Lyle Blue Darling.
this song was written for blue babies that i know for a fact because it was written and dedicated to my grand mother Dawn Doctor nee Repia. the first new zealand born and opperated blue baby love you nana
this song was one of the first that i had learned to sing when i was 8 yrs old. that was 1970. it was joe keawes record that i would play over and over again, until i could sing the song straight thru without missing a word. but, then i had the pleasure of knowing joe keawe and his family. i miss all the nice memories of this sweet music!!
Much Aloha to you...this is beautiful...this song is my mother and grandmother's passing song...you folks sing this really beautiful...Thanks...Mahalo...Sala from Frisco
This has to be one of the most awesome versions around. True Maori waiata with the best harmonies ever. The voices get sweeter everytime you play the video. You guys can definitely come and sing in our backyard on Xmas Eve............anytime.

So please, please, please forgive me
I'm sorry for the wrong that I have done
My heart would break if ever I should lose you
Blue darling, you're the lone and only one
I was a fool, broke every rule, blue darling
Saw the tears that took the place of your sweet smile
So please, please, please forgive me
Im sorry for the wrong that I have done
My heart would break if ever I should lose you
Blue darling, you're the lone and only one
