That guard guy that got out in the opening corps, he'd better work it!!! THAT WAS REALLY AMAZING RECOVERY TIME!!! If I ever get to perform again, I hope I'm able to recover like that! :)
@Newlolz989 Oh man! Thank-you so much! I re-watched it and realized that with the cam angle, it's hard to see specific uniforms and I thought it was the opening corp! My bad.
@iloldirl this is a DCI show not BOA none of these groups are bands they are drum and bugle corps the top marching groups in the world. thats why i thought you where just being stupid.
@krnbassist I literally laughed when I read your comment. BD march the hardest drill and the hardest music? Cadets, Crown, Bluecoats, and Phantom all play harder music and march harder drill. BD's hornline only played for about 4:30 of their show (they had an ELEVEN MINUTE SHOW!) Also, half their drill was free forms with no meter...
also @Newlolz989 how can you title this "Best DCI 210 Atlanta" when you only show case about 5 of the corps??? where are The Cadets, Santa Clara, Boston Crusaders, Cavaliers, Blue Knights, or the Glassmen? All had outstanding shows with great moments that should be recognized.
@bradlovesredskins where do you march? I march in a top 5 corps and I could care less about the judges. I perform for the audience. I think the most important thing we can do as performers is connect to the audience and make them feel like they're emotionally a part of the experience we are giving them.
and @Newlolz989 each judge definitely has their favorites and they are not as well trained as you might think.
@jacobross25 yea all my friends are saying that too. I dont believe so. Its just a really really cracked out show and i loved it. Its a show that noone would attempt to make or anyone would think of. It deserved to win.
@TheHuron89 They Are not "Given" the championships. The earn them. And in this period now. Think of the reality. Its the moral of the group. Its a very high standard group and they are the best of the best. They win because they deserve it. If they were just gonna give championships away to someone there wouldent have judges or a scoring system. Judges do not have "Favorites" There is a different judge at every single drum corps event and they are all trained for their specific job.
@Newlolz989 Then obviously General Effect Doesn't do as much as we might be thinking it does. So few people actually want BD to win. If they play the hardest music the best, march the hardest drill very hardcore, and dance like world champions, what good does it do if they seek the approval of the few. They are thousands upon thousands of people watching these guys, and they deserve better. They deserve (entertainment).
@krnbasslst Are you a marcher... it doesn't sound like it. On the other hand I am, and when I am competing, I'm not playing for the audience. the same is true for DCI, they are playing for the judges. If the people who just watch to watch were giving the awards then DCI would change from, who plays the hardest music the best to who plays the coolest.
@Newlolz989 That is all true but I think the Cavaliers had an overall cleaner show and sometimes the Blue Devils show wasn't communicated well to the audience.
There were some SERIOUS mello tuning issues during that hit on the finals recording. :/ It made me sad when I listened to it the first time... after I cringed, of course.
@360Alexrules08 Crown did awesome. Their opening Bb major hit was the loudest thing that night. A mellophone fell in the giant block rotation. Its like 4 seconds long i put it in there
you are like crazy in love with BK. I marched them, but I found it easy to leave considering how shady their staff is. Was the 2010 staff different from '09?
@fortunateage I think it was mostly the same. Andy Smart on brass and Marc Sylvester for vis. Then there were some techs like Craig Sellers and Jason Bentley for vis and Brett Nelson and Shawn Murphy (who's with BD for 2011). Those are the ones that I mostly had direct interaction with. I had an amazing summer and didn't think any of them were shady. What do you mean, exactly, by "shady?"
oh no, the brass staff was amazing that year, i was referring to the guard staff, and we don't have to get into the nitty gritty. though i did really enjoy everyone that i performed with, the guard that year was insanely large, but it was just a clashing year with a new staff and old staff and members from 2 different corps that year joining one. I just harbor bad thoughts, i almost didn't do DCI this summer because of it.
@fortunateage Ohh. Wow. I'm sorry. There wasn't a whole lot of staff clash this year because most of the old BK staff is gone and the new BK staff is in. I'm not entirely sure that Tim cracks down on the guard enough, however. They dropped soooo much this year. We had an 8th place percussion section, 9th place horn line, and a 12th place guard. That's why we got 11th. :/
it's whatever. Yeah, BK's rankings were so different from 09, but I can't say I will really like BK again until they do a real BK show. from 1996 to 2008 they had some pretty interesting shows, I mean they even beat out Phantom in 2000 and Crown in 2006.
@fortunateage There's been a philosophy change for BK. We're all about the crowd now. We made more fans this past year than we have in three or four. Old BK was about making people think about the show to find satisfaction. Most people just left to get hot dogs. Now we're about emotionally connecting with the audience rather than educating them. We're on our way to beating those corps out again. Trust me. :P Did you actually see the show from 2010?
Correction. You saved the best for second-to-last. ;)
