The only modern game that comes more or less close to this one in terms of combat system is the MMORPG "Age of Conan"; it has turned free2play a few months ago, so if you choose a sword-wielding class, you have a somewhat similar feeling when fighting.

Every enemy could really fuck you up. It's not about hordes of dumb monsters being smashed easily. Even the "easy" enemies were a challenge if you didn't concentrate

I wish I could play this game today :(, it's funny how many old DOS games run but severance doesn't run well on modern systems. it has some kind of a seed bug (where things move way too fast). Can't find a fix for it.

@gyloir I have the same problem, but I dont get it cause I have this problem on my windows XP 2004 or 05 cant remember notebook....but on my 2008 computer no problem like that...if anynone can help id be veery glad :)

Those deadly stalking Great Orcs in severance are among the scariest game characters of all time!.

I used to get shivers while playing this as a kid, whenever one or more of those suddenly appeared.

I play this game a lot, but I've never gotten past the third level. I suck at this game, using the Knight and Barbarian because I don't like the Amazon and the Dwarf is too hard for me to play. Yeah, I suck at it, but I play it a lot because it's the only game I've played where your character isn't godly powerful. Every enemy can be your last if you play recklessly.

Then check out Mount and Blade. It may not have a better "melee system" than this, but it is better. And some mods add more ways to attack.

Truly one of the best games of a kind.

Can you tell us where to get the mod i'd be happy to replay it again after 10 years aor so. And yes the barbarian required the most skills and patience out of 4 characters, the only way to play it if you ask me.

Actually no, the dwarf is the hardest because he is slow, can't dodge, has bad range, and has lame special attacks(not even one multy-hit special attack). The barbarian on the other side has much longer range, and has strong attacks.

This game is the king of 3d person type close combat EVER made.Because of that fact even if you find some similar game it will be worst than BoD.This is the best ''sword and shield'' combat experience in the gaming world x) !!!

That is my best game within the last years.I finished it with the knight and I am about to finish it with the girl but I stop play.

the girl is the strongest then the knight

at the first levels the girl look weak but when she get suitable weapons she become the best.Barbarian is too slow in fight.

I loved this game and have yet to find any game that really compares to it in terms of the melee combat system.

The closest one to me was the older game, Die by the sword. (It's available on gog for like 5.99). A fun classic melee action game but I still think Severance has the best melee combat in any game to date.

It's a shame no other games have used a similar system.

I found this game well easy - the sequence of enemy attacks r pretty simple ( especially the skeletons. I just move put the way, then after they finish I just counter & not hold back.
