  • All the wood cutting is done with the first 4mm of the bolt.

    You can cut the wood more gradually if you straight-taper the end of the bolt starting from about 10 threads back and grind the threads down to nothing at the end of the bolt.

    Would it be stronger to make the nut from 2 or more layers of wood glued together at 90 degrees to each other?

    Also, couldn't you use the bolt as a lead screw for cutting the threads on the dowel?
