  • KILLER !

I have always wished I could play those licks, from D.L.G. !

  • Bet you can't play smoke on the water

  • sick dude!...sick

  • also what pups? sound good!

  • what amp you using?

  • Don't know who these clowns are saying that the solo was Derek's. I've seen Derek play from 15 ft away at a little bar in Atlanta and I've seen Ted at least 12 times live -- the last time being from the 4th row at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL. I could see the drips of sweat clearly falling from Ted's arms off his wrist bands, bead by bead. Bottom line: I've seen Ted play this solo w/o Derek there. It's "Ted" style sequencing of the leads, not Derek's. Your rendition is great! You ROCK!

  • @holidayshen

Did you read any of the posts I made earlier? If you really think Ted played the first half of the solo, then can you please explain why one can CLEARLY hear the change from Derek's flanged, Les-Paul-into-Marshall tone to Ted's much cleaner, trebley Byrdland-into-Fender tone halfway through? This isn't something that can be debated.... it's a provable fact that Derek played the first half.

  • dude...that is some GREAT shit. i love the sound of your guitar through that amp. good stuff.

  • wiggle those fingers!

  • The first bit is from Double Live Gonzo's Wang Dang Sweet Poontang, isn't it? : D

  • Holy crap, you really rock Mark. That was great.

  • Who cares, this is very good guitar playing...whether it's Ted ot Derek doesn't matter, all that matters is the sound and technique! oh and having fun!!!!

  • holy shit! i just got a boner.

  • Ted told has already made the statement that St Holmes played the first part of the Wang Dang solo on DLG...the proof is the flanger/chorus that St Holmes used a lot during the Nugent era...if you listen close you can here a distinct tone and volume difference when Teds solo starts....

  • @JeffVortec just creepin on ya

  • Close, but needs work. You're using the wrong techiniques, but most of the right notes.!

  • sounds good man!

  • Awesome...I bet you jam on a semi-hallow or a strat as well!!!!

  • Absolutely Amazing !! Great work ! Thanks for sharing this masterpiece !!

  • You're an amazing player, but this was Derek St Holmes' solo! Ted played the second one on the DLG version of Wang Dang. If you go back and listen to it again, I'm sure you'll notice the difference between Derek's chorused mid-rangey Marshall tone, and Ted's trebley Byrdland-into-Fender Twin tone.

  • Sound pretty accurate. Good job!

  • nice!!!! thats awesome man... wish i could play solos that clean.

  • He sounds like TED!!!!!!!!

  • i hate people who play beter than me!!

  • Lmfao i know right?

  • You've put in the work, well done...or should I say, Kick Ass!

  • Absolutely awesome, man! I have a possible "world's first" on my channel and I favorited this!

  • honestly, your just another person whose been led to believe theres actually a difference between the two parties that consistently make up Washington. Each have made it their own agenda to limit personal freedom by increasing the size and scope of government while having people bicker over smaller issues that the media highlights daily.

  • Big 10-4 regarding the CHARADE going on in Washington and other places! On my channel is a project - a possible "world's first" - that I asked the NRA board of directors to contact both Ted Nugent & Tom Selleck about regarding its potential as a fundraiser in the fight against this administration's power grab before I had any video. Still comes up in reverse order on the channel, but we're looking to fix that soon.

  • I have purchased DLG many times for one reason or another.

Clearly not as many times as you have. I kneel to you sir. Bitchin playing.

  • Nice !!!!

  • that's what makes him so cool

  • awesome f*cking picking dude!!!!

  • thats some fuckin incrediblesoloing

  • Is that the Gibson SG standard Cherry or is it the Red version of the Standard EB Ebony?

  • Did he use any effect ???

  • Reverb and distortion.

  • Very good - I put a link on Ted's board to this video

  • Wow Mark you totally Kick-ass and your SG sounds Sweet !!!!!

  • Hey that's gotta be ted man if not you need to take his place because only guitar gods can play this good my man

  • Excellent man, great playing!

  • I have the same guitar and it would never sound that way unless you or Uncle teddy would hold it...Teddy should be proud of that one

  • True, Derek. But same style

  • Very nice playing BUT it's a Derek St Holmes guitar solo ! The one he does on the Double Live Gonzo, on Wang Dang Sweet Poontang , before Ted's solo : I have seen Derek playing this solo , with the little R .Blackmore lick .

    So , it's a Derek St Holmes Tribute !

  • Can you show me a link to back that statement? Everytime I have seen Nuge play he plays the solo for Wang dang?

  • You can here the TWO guitar solos on the Double Live Gonzo : Derek plays the first solo from 2.41 to 4.13 with a Fender Stratocaster ( and a little chorus effect ), and Ted play the second solo from 4.22 to 5.45 with the Gibson Byrdland.

They sound and play very differently.

A french video , filmed for the emission called Chorus ( Antoine de Caunes, 1977 ) shows Derek and Ted playing this song and their guitar solos.

  • Thank you for this detailed explanation! I have been listening to DLG for years and never realized it was Derek's solo. So obvious in hindsight!!! Now where can I obtain the Chorus video?

  • Unfortunately , this show , like many others fimed by the Chorus TV team ( Motorhead , Dire Straits , ...) is not yet avaible on DVD , or Youtube .

  • @markmusicman

    Its Nuge all the way.

  • @Eric5923 No, this part of the solo was Derek.

  • @141R918 No dickcheese. The solo on DLG istotally Ted's. There is no disupting it and there is no way TN would have allowed St. HOlmes to hold the spotlight that long.

  • @rrhynes Dude, you're wrong. In that era Ted DID let St. Holmes take fairly long solos, and there is a clear and obvious difference between their tones. Like I said in a earlier post, Ted got a bright, treble-y sound from plugging his Byrdland into Fender Twins, while Derek had a much thicker tone with a lot more bass and mid-range that he got from plugging Les Pauls and Les Paul Jrs into Marshalls. Derek also regularly used flangers and chorus pedals, which you can CLEARLY hear on the DLG solo.

  • As a person who had Ted's Double Live Gonzo album tacked on to his bedroom wall in the '70s, I can tell you this is spot-on Ted Nugent style right here. Great job.

  • amazing man. Take it from a nugent fan to tell u that u hit right on the dot man. Incredible playin'

  • holy pooh man great style you have yeh have the best shite man

  • OMFG THAT WAS F*CKIN AWESOME HOLY CRAP!!!

    i just subscribed

  • PS. What gear are you using? Nice Sound Five Stars!

  • Is the Wang Dang solo? or is that something of yours?

  • wang dang sweet poon tang

  • nice . damn i think that was Terrible Ted :D

  • Wow this is Great!

  • WoW you can play very very good guitar !!!!

  • SOUNDS LIKE UNCLE TED.

  • Nice! Thats Great Guitar Playing!

  • F#cking awesome!

  • Is this something that comes naturally or do you just have to keep praticing and grinding away it???? I've been trying to play for 2 years and just can't seem to get into any kind of groove the way this guy can. He is freeking awsome.

  • WOW!!! AMAZED!!! good work man!!! unlce ted would be proud!

  • how did you get that tone? is that your amp? FX processor? or wat? please message me back and tell me thanks!

  • i normally never post comments on videos but,

after seeing this, it was unbelievable, picked up my guitar and had a jam, figured i was pretty good with some pentatonic riffs, watched your video again and my jaw dropped.. inspired me to learn a couple riffs off your video. thanks man

  • he doesn't even pick like ted nugent. ted picks jazz where this guy picks rock. thats all i needed to see to tell for sure. props for those licks

  • hey hanstone1 got news for ya noway thats ted look in the back ground see a keyboard ?

the dudes good dont get me wrong but thats not uncle ted for sure

  • Exactly. That's why it says Ted Nugent "Tribute".

  • i bet that ted

  • I play Ted studio note for note. I say simply that you are Ted. That is why you do not show your face. I Love Ted. Not that way stupid. The Nugggg. You know? I know that this guy is Ted. Not some abbreviation. Nice try Ted. Were you a little board with the TV Shit!

  • Two Words...

Bad Ass! Nice fretwork!! You have definitely captured the Nuge. Love the sound and you make the SG sound the way it was meant to be heard. Keep on rockin'

  • omg wooooooow

  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME did you like be born with with a guitar in your hands or what.tell the truth you are really 500 yrs old but have mastered time dilation to get that good.10/5

  • Absolutely fantastic lead playing! Great job! But you must post a video of you doing the whole song, when you can. Can't wait to see it!

  • Nice Playing,

You captured the Nuge's style very well.

Now, if I could only make my GT6 and strat to sound that good.

    Keep playing.

  • Wow, nice, I think I got some work to to. lol

PS. that SG really sounded great

  • the nuge is the man, and u my friend, can play the hell out of a guitar

  • Nugent is a mental midget but he can crank the guitar. Love his music.

  • Ted Nugent is awesome and this solo is great.

  • Ted Nugent is one of the greatest guitar players to have ever lived.

  • Reaper1984 Ted Nugent a joke ? Lets see one of your videos , Oh that's right you probally don't know how to play at all .

  • Go check my videos out, i sure know how to play, check my own heavy metal song out, or my Dimebag Darrel guitarsolo tribute.

Ted Nugent isn't that amazing compared to Frank Marino's soloing.

  • Ted Nugent is a joke compared to the real master, Frank Marino, you should know that "musicman".

But anyway nice playing, still no comment from you.

    A little dissapointing i must say! ;)

  • Man buttreaper1984, I didn't see this was a video for frank marino. And in reality they are better guitarists then you, me, or the guy playing.

  • hey mark great...check out my videos...we should battle it out some day...alls good in inspiring guitar work...thanks mrg

  • Uh dude, I think you guitar is on fire.

  • the best lick is the slow one at 57 seconds, its well hard compared to the fast ones which i can do. Strange huh??

  • WOW!! I have to say it again..WOW!! You're OUTSTANDING.

Ted has always been one of my favorite Rock Entertainers! You have inspired me to get my '61 SG re-issue out of the closet and thrash it some. I wish I could play like you. Thanks for posting.

  • That was kickass

  • Ha ha. Wow, Rock On 'Bro. Well done.

    Ted. 'Nuff said.

  • This compares very well to the real thing:

    youtube(dot)com/watch?v=LgYheuzFc8I&mode=related&search=

  • I just gotta have the tab for this! Can ya help me out?

  • mark will do you a lesson. he done a lesson of this solo for me to.

  • anything less than 5 stars is absurd

  • No shit. This shit made me laugh, but in a good way. I play some guitar, and can appreciate a good musician.

  • Great Ted Rules! and your not half bad yourself

  • thanks for the extra vid to clear it up! im improving at it.!!

  • mark, on the first video you done for me ( the slow one) ive learnt most of the licks but i have real trouble with the lick at : 0:11 to 0:15 seconds (on this video.) for my personal video lesson you didnt rush it , its just that its crammed full of nots at once so i couldnt clearly see it. please help. by the way , im talking about the lick just before the repetitve pentatonic lick at 16 seconds!

    stav

  • Great tone, great song.

    stav

  • youre so good man can you do the sweet child o´mine solo with wha wha please !!!xD

  • mark have you made any cd's? you have a buyer here...just awesome

  • dude , what amp / effects do you use

  • I was plugged directly into a GT6 for this solo right through the mixer. You can really get some good sounds with the GT6 and GT8.

  • what are your GT6 settings for this kind of tone?? ( what preamp / overdrive settings do you use??) Theres loads of different distortion and amp types so please tell me which one you used for this

  • awesome

  • That was amazing!! you definitely got the nuge style down! dang... now I need a Gibson :P

  • that gave me a boner

  • nice i can see where your goin not perfect but you aint nuge!thanks for the insight on a few riff parts i dont know, dkdex

  • Its isn't exactly like the solo nuge plays I kinda just improvised, check out my studio version of wang dang its a little close to the original.

  • what is the tab from 14 seconds into the solo to around 18 seconds a repetitve riff, i like that one alot

  • excellent dude.

  • Pretty quick fingers for an old man with 2 carpal tunnel surgeriies!! You're the tits, man! Stoltz

  • Man, I love your tone. Definitely a pro quality player.

  • You havent played that since 1977? You have a good memory. Whoa, dude... as for the right hand technique.. no problem, bro... I was under the impression that you were doing a Nugie imitation, not just showing how you could make your guitar sound sorta like the Whacky Masterful... I would love to hear your own solos.

  • I used to play it in a band in the early 80s, its one of the solos from that era that I never forgot how to play as it took me a long time to be able to perform it. I really dont play to much covers any more just write my own music. My age is wrong on the profile I am not sure how to fix it. Im actually 45 this year.

  • You got most of the left hand moves down with exception of the pre-bend double stop, and your tone is pretty close, (lose the delay processors) but your right hand is absolutely NOT Nugent. Not even close. Nice try though

  • Check out my studio version of wang dang it has a little more difficult picking.

  • Close... but if you want to imitate Teddy, you have to pay attention to his RIGHT hand, not the left. Your timing on Wang Dang was off, and your run up the fret board did not include the pre-bend double stop... Grab the E string and the B string at the same time.. bend UP, pluck the E string AFTER you bend and then immediately release the bend as you pick the B string..

  • I havent played it since back when it came out, so Basically its my version and not the exact version Ted played, maybe moving forward I should only post my own solos. Maybe because I didnt pick the notes correctly is why it seemed so easy for me.

  • this is vey good. anyone with a problem, post a vid with ur version of this. otherwise, sthu

  • Thanks deepsouth81 check out my other wang dang version if you get a chance. You got to love Ted!!

  • yeh, nice sound outta the sg, and very clean and crisp. I like it.

  • blow the balls off a rhino dude !! motorcity madhouse next !!!

  • Guess what? In 1978 Ted was old hat because Edward Van Halen came along and wiped the floor with every player that preceded him, including Nugent.

    Ed owns Ted!

  • Excellent work. Now what you do is get a hollow body Gibson Byrdland and five Fender twin reverb with all knobs set to 10 producing 139 decibels and you play this while running back and forth across the stage at 35 mph for two hours. I'd love to hear you tackle Great White Buffalo or the violin volume knob stuff of Hibernation. He may be an imbecile but Ted's playing had a real musicality to it, a lot like Billy Gibbons.

  • Guess what dude...I know Ted too! Does THAT make us Bloodbrothers?? lol!!

  • ill as shyt

  • yer a faggot

  • very gooood, play STRANGLE HOLD for me

  • you made that right out on the spot??

  • Let's see you rip a few licks if you are "better" than this guy. I've been playin' Nug licks since 1979 and there are a couple that defy gravity!! lol

  • dude...then lets see it.

  • I've had the pleasure of meeting Ted, and even got to sing with him for part of a song when he had his radio station "The Bear", in Detroit.

He'll be the first to tell you (heard him say this several times, "I'm just a goofy guitar player. What do I know?" He's a very cool dude.

Of course, your solo is most excellent, as are all your videos. Thanks for subscribing!

    Peace.

    Debi

  • Complete and utter pwnage. Gotta love the licks. Great job.

  • fukin awsome man !!

  • ive noticed, why no pinky?

  • not needed for this solo

  • keep it up brother

  • Unbelievable man. Great Awesome Guitar by the way to
