  • old man with cane vs mexican with a knife a classic battle fought across america daily

  • right to the eyeball...

  • I've seen much worse techniques from much younger guys. He'd probably kick some young street thugs ass. Cause obviously would not expect lion river dance reflexes!

  • Should'nt the video be named "the lord of river dance defends him self with a cane"?

  • good...but could definitely be improved with more tiny jumps.

  • sucks

  • gaurantee he would get stabbed.

  • LAME!

  • I like our bishops better...Orthodoxia i thanatos...

Avnzamir

  • Es una clase muy didactica. I like it

  • OKAY! Stomp a little louder.

  • "HEY YOU FREAKS GET THE HELL OUT OF MY RACKETBALL COURT WITH YOUR STUPID CANE AND SHIT"

  • ...I need to use a cane. As for the thug(s)...I also carry a .357mag. and a 9mm...and the Democrats can kiss my ass!

  • @SittingMooseShaman why not carry two weapons of the same caliber so you need only carry one type of ammo.

  • @MrMattinahatt ...the Dems can still kiss my ass. You apparently do not understand weaponry. There are weight and concealment issues to consider when carrying firearms...the lesser is a option for, 'back-up' purposes...

  • @SittingMooseShaman a fair point, where do you conceal your 9mm?

  • @MrMattinahatt ...all depends on what season it is and what I'm wearing. Could use a pocket-holster, behind-the-belt holster, shoulder-holster or ankle-holster. Most of the time I prefer my side-pocket. The pistol is a custom Walther PPk(9mm short)...

  • Never bring a knife to a cane fight...

  • All that foot stamping may impress some people.

  • The cane is a fantastic weapon-I'm thinkin of dyeing my hair grey, so I can wear one! To the negative ppl: It looks like this guy could pull this off in a more stressful situation. Though when teaching to beginners, I would probably advocate hitting the knife hand/wrist, rather than using soft catches. But for a skilled person capable of landing powerful straight thrusts, this could work just fine.

  • He's sure kicking that parquet floor's ass!

  • @CNCTEMATIC HAHAHA! That's what I was thinking!

  • Does techniques are useless against a real knife attack, may be if the attacker is paralyzed for some reason. Its surprising that a man of his age actually believes that what he is teaching works. It is totally irresponsible for him to teach that nonsense to anyone.

  • @edwood777 uhh, i dont believe this guy is much of a master but im with @piaten, In a an actual encounter some of these simple movements would absolutely work. Paralysis, or not..

  • He would have cut out your heart and shown it to you long before you did anything....and you are expecting this. Nice stomping around though. Just like hulk hogan does in the ring and its all fake.

  • Mr.Cooper, the most important aspect is maintaining your distance using the cane, if possible. Your focus should primarily be on the knife hand untill he is disarmed. Never leave the knife hand hanging after a block. The wrist is extremely sensitive to blows and could be fractured or damaged in a heartbeat. I once disarmed an assailant with a broken bottle by hiiting him on the wrist with a Tonfa. He Immediately lost interest and disappeared in the crowd.

  • A Campbell Cane could be an interesting senior defense device. I was asked last year about designing a cane that could be functional, artistic and defensive. The latest design fits this description. I was involved in martial arts in the 60's..now I am way over 60. I would not want to be on the other end.

  • in real life you most likely get the knive faster then you can defend yourself. unless you train hard of course.

so first rule is to run or avoid a situation like this.

  • @Nightmarefhk From your extensive personal experience, of course.

  • @Nightmarefhk Hmmm....I would like to see an old man with a cane who is genuinely slow to begin with, running away. Its not like they can control who the thug will choose to attack, an old man with a cane being the easiest pray or the big guy with the (fake) gold chains. Big guy= hurt and no money , old man = easy pray and a big fat social security check....whatta ya think?

  • all that jumping around and spining might get you in trouble in a real combat situation. but the technique are really efective thanks for sharing.........

  • not meaning to criticize, but still quite amusing, around 2:30 the old man says throw a slash, and his assistant, ever thoughtfull, throws a thrust, alway good to get your things right.

  • Speed generates power. snapping adds extra power. good flawless movements come from fluidity and training. accuracy comes from much time of practice.

  • I will rank things in order of stupidity.....

    (1 being most stupid...)

1: The older version of Michael flatly with a cane....

2: anyone who's posts are criticizing his techniques in a serious manner

3: anyone who watches his video and thinks "a few of those techniques arn't bad"

Those of u normal people who have half a brain and realised the bloke is a complete fucken window licker who would probably end up with that cane shoved up his ass if he tried that shit..... High five to you!!!

  • Best Laugh I have had in ages, reading the comments - hysterical :-)

  • At 59 seconds in, the cane is brought full circle in order to meet the outside of a knife hand moving directly forwards and travelling a substantially lesser distance. Not what I would call 'economy of motion' and the most effective way of dealing with it when starting in that position. In empty space, go straight, not go in the direction that 'Will's Duck Went'!

  • Utter bullshit. People attacking with knives don't move in from a distance at arms length then stop with their arm out and wait for some prat to dance with a cane. They get in close, concealing the weapon till the last minute, then stab manically. The man's a theatrical fool.

  • he uses it to snatch little boys and fuck them in the ass

  • Hi from England, what style is this ?

  • I guess "Turning the other cheek," just got old fashioned, huh?

  • 3:45 And Stomp! Stomp! Strike! Stomp! Strike annnnd....twirl.. and Strike...lol

  • is this dude wearing tap shoes? and is he on speed or somthing?

  • Personally because i'm profoundly blind, i carry around a white sword cane like Zatoichi.

  • the concept at 3:03 works really well even if you are unarmed against knife

give it a try in your next pratice

  • I was a boxer, and I studied Shen Men Tao. Neither of which teach you to stomp your feet. Stomping crerates noise nothing more. At least as boxing and Shen Men Tao is concerned.

  • if only all old people were as agile as him... i think we forget why people use canes... i work in the health field and most (not all) but seriously MOST of the people with canes need them to support themselves and could not use it to defend themselves as he does.

  • @divine101 No shit? XD

  • @TheHunterHatfield then who else walks around with a cane or a stick with a curve on it? O.O

  • @divine101 no haha I mean no duh XD

  • @TheHunterHatfield oh haha XD

  • w8 an archbisshop with a snake head on his cane :O DUNDUNDUUUUUUN

  • If one needs a carries a stick to assist his walking then I would say he would be unable to use any of those stances or indeed stamp around in that way! Perhaps a long umbrella if strong enough!

  • @TheZhongzheng Stances are rarely used in an actual self dense situation and, alongside forms, are merely a way to train one in the techniques of the style and/or weapon. Assuming the man or women could stand on at least one foot, they could employ these techniques.

  • @ChishioAme I use stances in training and in self defense, for Tai Ch one needs sinking and rising, we use the body weight and full movement to apply. One needs a good root. If these walking stick applications from the style above can indeed be applied on one foot then I take my hat off to this system. :)

  • Regardless of what the stomping 'represents', it is way too loud and distracts from what he is saying and doing.

  • Im not convinced with this guy. Lots of stamping with vulnerable stances, seeing he's talking chinese martial arts or so he thinks he is....

  • @engine0909 you realize that "stamping" really does have a purpose, and why are you thinking it's chinese? i think you're talking about asian, but you typically think of them as the same thing. sorry if i'm mistaken, but it's a common error people make every day.

  • Judging by the video, stomping the ground adds power to the strike. This reminds me of wrestling where they stomp the ground to create a similar sound of a kick or punch.

  • And the somebody pulls a gun and you're fucked...

  • This guy is a joke, i have done krav maga for 17 years and i advise any body to try it for knife technique it works and i am talking from personal experiance this guy does'nt have a clue.

  • Comment removed

  • No offence but why is he jumping up and downl like a frog? And dont come with some bullshit that it give you extra power or something like that.

  • Baji and/or Piqua practioners stomp a great deal in their forms. He may even be a baji practioner.

  • I dont believe this dude could pull these moves off. A young boxer would jump in there and kick his ass even with the cane.

  • this guy is wierd...hes too happy with his "hook action"

  • he has kung fu training or some similar art....his into the arts thats all ...and all the snapping and pausing is just the art making its way to your systm ...muscle memory

  • pahahahahahaha!

    the hopping kills me!:)

  • the stomping is meant to generate snapping force. most martial arts from all over the world teach this concept, including boxing and wrestling

  • i've seen stomping in techniques from different styles before. i have friends who study goju and they stomp into alot of their techniques. i'm not familiar with this style. not trying to make fun, but it does look a little funny. i'm sure id he weren't in an area that didn't echo, it wouldn't sound that bad.

  • that is because this is not an asian style. it is derived from the european renaissance martial arts. the extent of the stoping for power might be his own invention, but I have seen the techniques in medieval and renaissance manuals of "le artes marciale".

  • @AlienZygote010 Only theatrical Wrestlers stomp one foot at the same time as they make out that they are kicking with the other!

  • @pugilistica - well, i guess after 14 years of studying martial arts from several nations i just don't know what the fuck i'm talking about.

  • @AlienZygote010 Try 37 years going on 38! I wasn't meaning to offend you my friend, I was just making an observation as I see it. That's not to say I'm right and you're wrong, or vice-versa. When you post online, you have to be prepared for people to comment on what you post. Don't take things so personally!

  • @pugilistica no offense taken. perhaps i was in a bad mood. i am sorry about that. in chinese and southeast asian martial arts, a snapping motion is used that is often interpreted by folks who don't know any better as stomping, but it is actually the final movement in the process of gaining that inertia by using your body like a bull whip. great force and speed can be generated in this manner.

  • @pugilistica schmuck

  • 1:44 spastic fail

i think, i'd crap right in my pants. the hopping-doodle-stomps completely stunned me.

i like to see these deadly moves in RL!

  • they are not meant to stun. that is a rediculous and uneducated way of looking at it. anyone who thinks a stomp is meant to stun watches too much anime. is the ground supposed to split open too? the stomps are meant to generate a snaping force, like how snakes strike away from their target and correct with a whipping motion. this technique is also used in kung fu. it was also used in the almost forgotten european renaissance martial arts where these cane techniques come from

  • lmao, i know what this spastic movement is for.

anyway, it looks goofy. u can say what u want xD

  • haha nice

  • Slick moves, definitely would work from an anatomical standpoint, but the tap dancing got a little much for me...the fellow seemed more than a little self-impressed in my eyes.

  • Go Grandpa Go!

  • hahahahha is this guy for real? Did he give the black belt to himself? Pathetic. So the attacker will stand still and wait 4 You to kill hi with your cane hahha

  • he pauses for demonstration purposes

  • more real than you will ever be. shit talkers generally make horrible martial artists
