I had forgotten about interference from CB radios! (starts at 4:30) Used to drive me crazy trying to watch with some BS conversation interrupting your TV program.
where r all those good real americans years ago now all we see r foregners armenyans from armenya or russia or just russians we need our real americans back please
@Xpk951 It was a recording sent by a friend, and begins from what you see in the clip I uploaded. Not sure if the original taper recorded the movie that preceded the news broadcast but it wasn't on the recording sent to me.
Good reporting on the number one news story at that time in L.A., the Hillside Strangler. Notice how much time was spent on what were the latest developments in the story, a recap of who the victims were and where they were found, and especially how women were learning to defend themselves(and tips to those women out there watching who were not at the particular class being shown). Useful info all around. What has happened to KTLA news today is very sad:( If Hal Fishman were still around...
This video referenced the Los Angeles Strangler AKA The Hillside Strangler back in the late 70's. Really cool to see old news footage from that era during these infamous murders in LA history. Always found KTLA right at historic LA news events growing up.
Based on the information regarding the date the final victim featured in the Hillside Strangler story, it appears that this newscast was recorded on December 1, 1977.
Wait, was Gerald Ford talking about getting sterilized? I was distracted by the fashions and flashy graphics.

The La Habra Dodge location was Friendly Hills, now it's just an empty lot.

I love how this broadcast gets briefly interrupted by CB radio. I remember as a child this would happen from time to time when I watched TV.

we may be hearing the words, "governor brown" again...

@brendabaloyan And before he got into to TV, he was a disc jockey on KFWB...one of the first African-Americans to do Top 40 radio.
tomservo56954 3 months ago
@brendabaloyan KTLA started broadcasting in January of 1947, not December of that year.

Both Hal Fishman and Larry McCormick are deceased. Only Stan Chambers is still at KTLA; he's still there after over 60 years in news reporting.
mgriffin132006 2 years ago
Yeah, he's still working at 90+ plus years old, which is pretty unusual for an old news reporter.

Like Bill Moyers once said, "Old journalists, like old soldiers, never die. They just tell new stories".
BadGurl404 2 years ago
@mgriffin132006 And Chambers just stepped down earlier this year.

The use of lower-case letters on the Vidifont during the news was an interesting touch.
