Robert C. Michelson who is the inventor of the Entomopter is some kind of genius. He does everything. Look at the article about him on en.Wikipedia. And yes, this looks like a rod, but I think rods have been proven to be an artifact of natural flying things (birds/insects) when filmed with a video camera. Probably NASA would not land its Entomopter because it is too risky. Probably the landing gear are only for this movie.
