Do you write songs or just perform covers ?? Some of your covers are almost as good as the original versions, and that means something soming from a Tom Waits obsessive like me. You clearly understand what's most important about these songs, you know how to capture the feeling. I bet you could write great original songs too.
Actually he writes her in on the songs that she helps with, which is why not every song is by both of them. And if you compare the style in the late 70's to the early 80's once they married, its a totally differnt everything. Read any of the numberous books containing his interviews....and Brennan is WAY fucking better than Yoko.
Wow! I was rewatching this great vid and found out my coment.
Again, I have nothing personnal against Mrs. Waits., but Tom has been quite succesful changing his style on his own. Sure Kathleen has an influence in his feelings. But musically? His ex Rickie Lee Jones was a real musician and never cosigned any song.
And Tom is too great for that, but somehow the best balladeers and troubadours absolutely lose it when they fall in love: Bielanko, Earle, Gary Louris... they should remain sad! :D
thank you very much, berry ... just to get that right: I'm not Tom Waits, of course, I'm a fan of Tom and I cover and collect his music, and I'm right now following him on his european tour. My name is Pascal, and I choose the nickname 'waitswatcher' years ago, as a joke, and it somehow sticked to me. so to say.
But I'm not the real man himself ... I got the impression you thought that, regarding your last video response.
"Fawn" is co-written by Tom Waits and his wife, Kathleen Brennan. She probably doesn't get enough credit as his songwriting partner, so I thought I'd drop her name here.
She's given way too much credit already. Tom has been cosigning his songs with the lady since their marriage, but personally I think she composes zip, zero, nothing. Just another Yoko thing or a legal lifejacket. I don't have anything personal against her, but this "cowritin" schemes bug me. Tom had already wrote hundreds of great songs before. Had you ever heard of a single K.B composition?
Very beautiful. The first time I heard "Alice", this instrumental track almost made me cry... This version did the same :-) Well done! Have you ever tried to play "Make It Rain", "Day After Tomorrow" or songs from Closing Time? That would be cool ;-)
This song is frelling sad. The first time I heard it, I almost got choked up. Waits is a god. And I enjoy this version, too. :) A little mellower than his version.
stunning. just stunning.

oh my goodness, you're probably on the phone talking to your lawyers, now, aren't you?
Still, I loved it so much that when the video of the Rose of Sharon was done, this is the exact song I thought of.
Thankyou for your beautiful music, Tom.
