  • you're missing a chord

  • Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

  • thank you, thank you, thank you. I was waiting for a good breakdown of this one. Gave up on it a few times not finding a sample that I thought worthy of the song.

  • damn good lesson.....sounds good too!

  • Thanks kindly for the lesson :)

  • thanks for the great lesson

  • Thanks, I love this song.

  • Thanks Steve. great post, nice an relaxed ....fnice for the not so young!

Do you by any chance also have the chords of Listen to the Lion?

  • @Ucannotfailtogohome Same chords in a slightly different order.. Use your ears to find 'em!

One of the joys of playing Van's songs is most of them fit about six different chord sequences! (in various keys)

  • Thank you for the great lesson Steve, excellant job. I'm having 2 issues that maybe you can expand on for ito the mystic. 1. I can't see to get the strumming correct as well as the tempo. 2. what are the chords and picking pattern used during the bridge. I can't quite figure it out. If you can expand on this it would be greatly appriciated. Best regards and thankyou again for all your great lessons, Jimi

  • very good!

  • Lovely.

  • That's a great kay po. My kay po is on already.

  • excellent version, I am torn which one to learn...

  • nice job!

  • whats that diagonal line around 14/15th fret

  • @mugwamp4 The twelfth fret where it all starts again unless you have your kay po on

  • Thanks very much. Nice and chilled.

  • Thank you great lesson. Thanks for teaching the open D tuning. I have always wanted to learn it and what a great way to lean.

Can you post Jim Croce songs?

  • Good vid's. You voice sounds like D. Crosby. Do you have a Guinnivere lesson?

  • While I think the lesson is good, there's a reason for the standard way of playing "Into The Mystic". The song is about that tension of loving something so much and just bursting with it. With all the openness, it turns too much into a lullaby and loses that necessary tension. Personally, I prefer playing it the traditional way so that when that line comes around, you can just erupt into "AND IIIIIIII WANNA ROCK YOUR GYPSY SOUL!!!!".

Good tutorial for an easier way to play the tune, though.

  • Good lesson man, though I already knew the song I watched the whole video because it sounds so good!

  • how do you get permission do you have a e mail address nice job by the way

  • hey.. awesome work here.. can you somehow show me the right hand part of this.. Please ..

  • Got my martin today and this sounds fantasic on it! Much easier as you say in open D...

  • Steve, thank you so much for this! Hey, I can actually sing this song in this key. Also, first time using this tuning.

I'll second the request for Black Crows She talks to Angels.

Also, didn't Nick Drake use this tuning? Sounds like his stuff.

  • probably for some songs but the guy is just using a capo so he's not really altering that much

  • very helpful...thanks. Also would be helpful for beginners to know which hammer on strings you are doing...

    Cheers again! :)

  • thanks dude that d tuning def adds more depth and an edge that the standard doesnt....you explain welll also

  • Genius! You explain so well. Ty :0)

  • are you missing some key notes that form the hook in this song?

  • Caypo? LOL

  • It's not spelled liked that, but it is pronounced liked that.

  • well how do you pronounce it?

  • I can barely play but with your instruction I got it!

  • It was a good video.

Black Crows She talks to Angels

    is very similiar

    Regards

  • Cool! Thanks for posting the lesson.

  • very good teaching.

    loveandpeace:)

  • uh.. interesting idea, open D tuning sounds great of course, but have to hear the whole song in context... have a feeling that the rest of the songs progression may not match as well?

  • This is great, thanks. Great idea to play it in Open D. I've just tried to link my version to yours but without success :(

I'm also working on a version of Call It A Loan in Open D - having great fun.

    All the best

    John

  • Thanks Steve - right on the money in every way ! You've given me some good ideas there and you've got a great manner - it felt like having a more talented mate in the room, wanting you to get better.

  • Good stuff Steve, gotta love the open tunings..

  • wow thanks a bunch my friend another song that i have always wanted to learn. much peace to you my friend
