  • very good Rất Rất hay

  • sweet!

  • excellent.

  • Please... you're really gonna criticize Gruberova's high F? REALLY? She's only 25 here, sheesh..... How old were you guys when you made your operatic debut?? lol.

  • excelente Edita...la mejor soprano de coloratura!

  • oha *-*

    Hamma! <3

  • i want this in my ipod!

  • Mariah Carey who?

  • The only thing I have against sticking out her tongue is that it causes a delay. She doesn't quite get that note out on time.

  • Her tongue is really freaking me out here ... and you can't sing this that in-expressively! She does have a nice voice, though.

  • Una Dea discesa dall'Olimpo, non può essere altro se ancora oggi canta ai suoi livelli di eccellenza.

  • amazing voice!!!!

  • If you want to hear someone with incredible high F's i would recommend watching "YAF 2011 Sarah R" the begining is a bit slow and pitchy but the painist could be the one dragging it out. just keep listening to the whole thing as the song goes on its incredible! better than Edita in my opinion. When the song was recorded she was 16. WATCH THE VIDEO! thanks :)

  • fantastisch!!!

  • maravilhoso!

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!!! :O :O :O ive always loved Gruberova, but i'd never seen her sing it this young, amaaaaazing! and she just stood there, like there was no effort involved for her at all!! FANTASTISCH!

  • Edita je diva !

  • And the miniskirt !!!!!!

  • Excelente interpretacion.. muy buena tecnica.. ahi se ve la alta escuela y el alto desempeño que posee.

  • I love how she sticks her tongue out on the Fs :)

  • @MrDajx May I ask is it supposed to be like this when singing the Fs? Is this the right way to reaach the high notes?

  • Comment removed

  • @snowy9431 Perhaps it is her way of being able to reach those insanely high notes, but if you watch sopranos like Natalie Dessay or Diana Damrau doing this aria, they manage to reach those notes without sticking their tongues out. I guess each soprano has their own method of doing it - most of which probably required training to increase the vocal range :)

  • @MrDajx Thank you very much! :)

  • @snowy9431 Any time :D

  • @MrDajx I also noticed that they do not end to show their teeth when reachign the high notes, is that supposed to be the technique to help them to sing higher? ^^

  • @snowy9431 Possibly, I don't really have much expert knowledge on music, so you might have to ask someone who has been academically trained in this particular field. I think that opening your mouth wider definitely has an impact on the pitch of the notes a soprano sings though :)

  • @MrDajx Thank you again! ^^

  • @snowy9431 No problem :D

  • @MrDajx It is called Vowel modification, singers do this because some vowels are more difficult to sing high pitch.

  • @masterorionful Yeah, some vowels are definitely harder than others. Thanks for the info :)

  • @snowy9431 I study this, and yes, this woman has perfect tecnique. Mouth and tongue are great.

  • @LauraAkaBlair Thank you! So I have noticed that they do not show their teeth when they sing high notes, is that a technique as well?

  • @snowy9431 Depends on the singer. No two people's resonating cavites are quite the same, so here she sticks her tongue out and doesn't show her teeth where others may have to open wide and show all their teeth to sing it on pitch.

  • She's a machine

  • she sticks her tongue out XD

    it looks so funny!!!

    no disrespect

  • @tissetatten yes, and only on high F...

  • This may just be the most satisfying performance of this aria I've ever heard!

  • Very interesting. A wonderful voice even at this young age, and yet, not a single ounce of expression to be found. Yikes! And, dear lord - somebody should have shot the pianist. He didn't help out Edita at all....

  • @2751IM soo right.

  • she was actually relativly pretty in her 20s, all recent memory of her is as a old hag

  • Beautiful woman with such a beautiful voice, too!! Bravo Edita!!!

  • What a beautiful woman!

  • I just don't understand why no record company decided to record her Queen at that early time in her career. I find her Queen so much better here than in her later 'Official' recordings. The staccati are just forceful and full of sound. In her later recordings the staccati in this aria are less convincing to me. Also the triplets are just not to be believed in sheer perfection. This to me is just amazing singing...Wow, wow, wow...:-)

  • @edgarbiervliet

There is a recording from 1977 with Von Karajan. To my knowledge the easliest QotN recording of Edita.

  • @Hupjeflupje Thank...I'll be on the lookout for that recording. Do you know the Label?

  • @edgarbiervliet

I was mistaken: it was in 1974 (!).

    The label is Arkadia

  • @Hupjeflupje Thank you so much! :-)

  • Quite ironic. . The cutest, most down to earth soprano imploring murder.

  • Great high notes and Great legs!! way to go Edita!

  • So beautiful and has a voice like that!!!

  • das ist wahrscheinlich die beste königin der nacht die ich je gehört habe

  • stupefacente performance di una Gruberova giovanissima indiscutibile già stella internazionale della suprema lirica , complimenti del prezioso documento video, bye Alex.

  • how wonderful! I especially like when she sings the high note and pokes her tongue out slightly :-)

  • Wow full of energy....no of the dozens of energy drinks is able to give so much energy like our slovak nightingale Edita. Vela zdravia a uspechov!

  • Brava!

  • Last singer I saw sticking their tongue out like that was Susan Dunn. Most people would say "Susan Who??" Exactly. Nice to know that Gruberova eventually fixed that technical glitch.

  • Wow... 40 years singing at the highest level... incredible Edita! She is the best! :) IMPRESSING!! Thanks for the video!

  • grande gruberovà! toll!

  • Oh my!! :DDD

She was a beautiful singer even back when her career first started! XDD

Though..One thing I've noticed in this video. When she goes to sing that F, she..Sticks her tongue out? o .o Like, over her bottom lip. Is that a common practice for opera singers? Or is that just something that she's adapted to?

Besides that little detail, she was SOOOO AMAZING in her most earliest years~!!! X3

  • @kit11104 Haha! You're absolutely right. The reason she sticks out her tongue out is to open up space in the back of her throat so she can sing the high note more easily.

My vocal teacher opens up space in the back of the throat by lowering the root of the tongue instead of sticking the tongue out. Looks better and it's easier, too! :-)

  • Wow!

  • thank you for this video. i'ts beautiful

  • Thank you very much for sharing this treasure!

  • LOVE seeing these old videos!!!

  • Thank you! :)
