@Rochabp Subcutaneous injections can be given at the 45 to 90 degree angles. Usually a fold of skin is grasped in one hand, and the needle in inserted into that area, and the plunger is pushed. The amount of skin grasped is determined by the area being injected into (how much of a fat pad there is under the skin and how loose the skin/tissue is in that area).

It totally depends on how much body fat the patient have. a 90 degree angle works perfectly as well as a 45 degree angle.

dumbasses...you aspire to be sure you are not injecting into a blood vessel. Depending on what you are injecting this could be important!

I'm in school right now 10/2010. The new way is to aspirate for SubQ -- same as for IM. I think its weird and so do our teachers.

Needle angle, pinching the skin, aspirating the syringe... all things that are still done in the EMS field for SubQ injections. This video is a little off.

This is not an accurate description of Sub Q injections. I've been doing them since 04- and was taught at the Mayo. Please do not pay attention to this video if considering Sub Q

Sub Q injections are given at a 45-90 angle. And you no longer need to aspirate for a SQ injection.

This is wrong, subcut is given at 45degrees, and u are suppose to pinch the skin!

IM injections are given 90 and Intra Dermal injections 15 degrees.

@SonaSmartChild The angle is determined by the length of the needle, if you are using a longer needle then yes 45 degrees is right but for a short needle like the one used here 90 degrees is fine.

@davbob This is only partially true. The angle of the injection is also based on how much adipose tissue your patient has. Even a short needle such as the one used in this video, if angled incorrectly on a 70-90 year old patient with low body fat and muscle tone, could strike the bone. So you always want to take that into account as well.
