  • winstons - amen brother, has THE biggest sample used in jungle and drum and bass records.

  • great stuff m8

  • hype ownsss...

  • easy with the crystals there m8!

  • D&B = a 2step drum , more melodic , greater synth.

Jungle = more variation on the drum , more break sequence , poor synth , deeper sub bass.

But not really a big difference between the 2style:

p.s : Super Shar Shooter was in the " top 10 best drum and bass of all the time" by Ministry of sound.... make your own judgement.

  • I don't think you can draw a sharp line between dnb and jungle. Sure, when you hear a particular song, you can tell if it's jungle or drum and bass, just by listening.

Today, I think it's better to use dnb as the genre and jungle as a sub-genre, since dnb already has like a dozen distinct sub-genres like liquid funk or hardstep.

Also: Super Sharpshooter is probably the best tune to explain dnb with. Well done.

  • Oh no.

  • omf this is a jungle tune, not DNB!!!!!!

    there is a fucking diffrence.

this drums are jungle, not dnb.

  • ehhh, sorta derber...stop being elitest, drum and bass is pretty much the catch all title for all the lot. Jungle is jungle though, but it's also drum and bass, as it has the same structure as the super-genre... and by the way...stfu k?

  • Isn't it DJ Hype pres. The Ganja Kru (not gangster) - Super Sharp shooter :)

    says so on my lp...

my definition of drum'n'bass is Logistics, although ellaskins here might be more correct, who cares really. dnb > all else.

  • LMAO ufo1216. that statement is complete bollox, there was no DnB 30yrs ago, it bagan in the 90's. There has never been dancehall jungle, dancehall samples were added to jungle music which later (as jungle died) became ragga jungle. Get back in your spaceship, goodbye.

  • dj hype is one of the pillars of modern dnb. but dnb was invented like 30 years ago in the dancehalls of jamacia(dancehall jungle) and what about oldskool jungle like omni trio, red alert and mike slammer people should give them some credit also

    cheers

    gavin

  • i think dnb is one of the oldest genres there is. a drum is pretty much the most simple instrument to make.

  • I heard Blue Peter were thinking of using this for an urban music special. Well Done.

  • Ganja Kru Man! Super Sharp Shooter! Come Blood ...least get tht shit rite! Drum n Bass Is Double The Speed Of Hip Hop! One Famous Break From The Funk Period Was Sped Up To Make DNB! This Break Is The Amen Break (also used in lots of hip hop) Which I Think Is Used in SSS! The Different Sub Genre Types Are: Hard Step Dark Jazzstep Techstep Liquid Sambass Drill n Bass (I ent too sure but it cud b linked with IDM i jus dunno bout tht shit) Jump Up etc. etc. But Sik One Neways!
  • Very sorry, but i am dislexic and letters jumble up sometimes!

     johnathan

  • Ahhh Rite Kool Man!

    No Problem!

  • Drill N Bass... check out shit like Venetian snares. Its fuckin crazy.

  • Yeah since then i checked some out innit!

Venetian Snares - Hajnal! Gully Tune!

and obviously Aphex Twin's got one but its a crazy name but sound aight!

    Cheers anyways!

  • oh yes, Hajnal is one sick tune!

  • "shupper sharp super" ? or was that "shupper sharp souper"? c'mon its the GANJA CRU... ffs.. at least get the trackname/artist right. not repping for dnb too tuff.

  • Hi, i am dislexic and i find it hard to read sorry!!

  • its not even about word blindless. I suffer from it, I double check everything i write. If your going to talk about dnb, please know about the subject, instead of having to look at the label to know the artist. It's no excuse, sorry to be blunt, but u could give me about 400+ dnb tunes and i could tell you who it was by just from the music.

  • Yeah, but we're not talkin about writing, we're talking about reading, and under pressure no less. Don't be bustin his balls, he could have -not- included dnb at all. Give the man some respect for at least mentioning the genre.

PS: If you were really sharp, you'd be callin him out for not creditin' DJ Zinc who made it. It was a DJ Hype presentation and a Ganja Kru release, but a straight up DJ Zinc track.

  • sixthsomatic, u wonder WHY i didn't tell him about the zinc thing? i was hoping he would bother to re-read the label and correct me, attention to detail is everything. I'm fed up of 10 dnb record owners going on like they are article junglists. I don't even dj, prolly own more white labels, thats the joke of it. glad ur on point though. have you seen the amount of s*** here regarding d&b+jungle that is far from rep'ing it?same with some doughnut who reckoned "square pusher" was proper d&b.lol

  • Don't think he's trying to go on like an article junglist, just trying to give new djs a very brief idea of what dnb is all about. Although he likes it, dnb is clearly not his forte. Now if he was all "boh selekta" tryin to act it I'd be a bit harsher, but in this case there's no need to call him out rough, just say "yo, that's not quite it" and move on. Round my parts there's only a few dnb fans, so anyone puttin it out (even if they need a little correction) is cool by me.

  • did he say gangsta kru?

  • Secondly he says at the end that the track just goes on

like that and its "basically straight forward". If you really listen to that track (as I'm sure he hasn't done as he wouldn't have needed to read the sticker cause he forgot the name), analysing what is so good about it then you hear the amazing amount of subtle variation, which is what really makes the track.

Fair enough that this is his "interpretation", its just not a particularly informed one. :(

  • Feels like the guy heard his first drum and bass track 10mins before he got in front of the camera. I'm 99% sure he calls the artists the "Gangsta Crew", who ever they are. Its the "Ganja Cru".

  • hey how can I get some of my own produced tracks to you I think you might like them!

  • bro everything was opk but you have a problem with the dj mix,

your information about mixing but the music was about the turn table music.

  • Sorry - I'm a sample freak, especially when it comes to funk sources, and basically the hip hop sound was built on 60's 70's funk, and the D&B was built on a lot of hip hop samples....and so it goes on. PM me for sample and tune info..lol.

Anyway getting off the track, sorry...good video, keep it up mate.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Samples used - well the Amen breakbeat is par for the course in D&B lol. "The S, the H, the A the R the P" vocal sample is actually clever use of the intro to "it's gets no rougher" by LL Cool J, where he goes through the entire alphabet - the A the B the C etc...also Method man is in there too. The bass, commonly known as "dred bass" was first used in a track by Dead Dred called "dred bass" on moving shadow records in about 93ish?

  • Bit more info about the track Ellaskins played, for any of you looking for it....it's actually the Super Sharp Shooter remix, not the original...by DJ Zinc, originally released on DJ Hype's Ganja records label...Remixes Vol 4.

  • :D there's a movie about 2 guys trying to release a drum n bass record that i've watched about 50 times. I guess that's how i got to like it. lol

  • old skool jungle super sharp shooterrrrrrrrrrrrrr
