Fabulous advice! I teach glassworking classes, and I always tell my students that the reason they see flaws in their work is because they've been staring at it from ten inches away for a half hour. Then I tell them to take their pieces to work with them the next day to show off and I guarantee that their coworkers and friends will just see the beauty in the glass, and not the flaws. And many of them later told me about the compliments they received on what they did. We are our own worst critics
Good focus video, glad you've uploaded this, its 1am so I won't be drawing just yet lol but I'm gonna get some good quality drawing paper soon and have a ShooRayner sketch session lol erm...any advice what paper to get? Thanks again!
Here's an interesting trick I picked up in school this year. Drawing requires patience, and so does Chess. If you play chess, you'll (Or at least I) be more likely to take the time to detail a piece of artwork and make it look nice. Trust me, drawing is a walk in the park compared to the games of chess I've played against the seniors at my school (And I'm a freshman!)
@myassin2009 I've come to think that you aren't a deep thinker. The symbolism is about, not love, but overcoming obstacles to get what you most want. You sir, are the idiot.
@bestshowontheweb You would get sidetracked and propose some lame and corny shit like "overcoming obstacles and blah blah blah" . Do you have adhd? try to stay on subject. I'm merely disclaiming the idea that "drawing is a walk in the park compared to chess". Next time make sure you dont make assumptions that way, you won't look so dumb.
You need to show us a video of how one whilst go about drawing people. THE HOUSE OF MONTULET DEMANDS IT! (A cross between Montegue and Capulet from Romeo and Juliet)
You're right! I don't feel that i'm good at drawing, but I watched your spitfire vid (and commented on that) but my drawing is absolutely brilliant! So thankyou very much mate!
man i wish i had seen this when i was taking classes i hated thoes people they made me feel so crappy so i dropped out and i draw what i wanna draw and i share it with people who actually wanna help me. im not to hot drawing people but i draw objects pretty well.
@DeansLILgirl you need to put a little more work into the things you're not so good at. that will then feed into what you are good at and make that even better :) keep up the good work :)
What you say is very true ! I am French and the French are always negative... I have surprised myself doing things I was negative of at the beginning. And somehow, as time passed, I started to think positively. IT REALLY WORKS !!! ;)
So this is really random but could u do a video on how to draw a unicorn!?! U should put this idea at the top of your very long list becuz that would make me hAppy !!
Creating is an essence of life, and the most amazing way to have fun. I think I'm gonna download this into my mp5 so I can watch it whenever I'm down. Thank you for this wonderful video, and I wish God floods you with good karma, as you're a talented artist that encourages others. With so many that think only by destroying others they can flourish, having you around is a blessing and a pleasure.
Man, I can't even say how much I agree with you. The people who have brought me down about art the most were:
-my mother, who hasn't drawn a freaking thing since I was born (that is a long time ago)
- the owner of a site, who only drew copied stuff and hated any original variation to the anime featured in her site.
- and the owner of another site, who rejects stuff most of the time, and barely does any drawing of her own (has been there for over three years and has less than twenty pics).
@ZephyrOfDarknessArt LOL - you have to be quite single minded to do what YOU want to do and you have to search out others who want you ti succeed and don't want to hold yo back. keep at it :)
Just today I used your techniques you taught in your spitfire drawing and i drew a P-51 Mustang. I was wondering if you would like to see it. I'll record it and send it to you :) Let me know mate!

Thanks for the pep talk Shoo. Your drawing and your attitude is a great inspiration. I sketch bait but most of my creative energy goes into photoshop. I love creating photomontages and drawing images in photoshop using my graphics tablet and pen. Thanks again.
@TheBiggervern I spent a lot of time drawing in flash with my tablet a couple of years ago but i found i could draw so much quicker on paper! But I learned a whole lot about layers and placing things in the right place by doing that.
Hi Shoo! :D I love these videos!!! I wanted to show you a character design artist, named Melissa Van Der Paardt. She does all these amazing animal drawings. I thought you might like it! Google her name and see for yourself! It's awesome!!!!! :)
Sorry Shoo everything you said was great advice for those looking to pursue creative endeavors, however I don't think you should look at criticisms as a form of jealousy. criticisms can often be helpful even when they're hateful because you learn to see the faults in your work.
@TheBr00talhamster Hateful criticism is no good to anyone. we are hard enough on ourselves without being sniped at from the side - and my point is that real friends don't make hateful criticism. Real friends are constructive. :)
