  • Fabulous advice! I teach glassworking classes, and I always tell my students that the reason they see flaws in their work is because they've been staring at it from ten inches away for a half hour. Then I tell them to take their pieces to work with them the next day to show off and I guarantee that their coworkers and friends will just see the beauty in the glass, and not the flaws. And many of them later told me about the compliments they received on what they did. We are our own worst critics

  • :',"D

  • Great video! :)

  • Did you know "can't" isn't actually in the dictionary! So don't use it!!!

  • this advice if pure gold for me. Just what i was looking for.

  • @1234Colt Glad to be of help :)

  • Good focus video, glad you've uploaded this, its 1am so I won't be drawing just yet lol but I'm gonna get some good quality drawing paper soon and have a ShooRayner sketch session lol erm...any advice what paper to get? Thanks again!

  • Here's an interesting trick I picked up in school this year. Drawing requires patience, and so does Chess. If you play chess, you'll (Or at least I) be more likely to take the time to detail a piece of artwork and make it look nice. Trust me, drawing is a walk in the park compared to the games of chess I've played against the seniors at my school (And I'm a freshman!)

  • @bestshowontheweb I would have to disagree. There are WAY to many factors to consider.

  • @myassin2009 lol. u know the story Romeo and Juliet, rite?

  • @bestshowontheweb Yes, but what does romeo and Juliet have to do with drawing?

  • @myassin2009 What doesn't it. Take some time to think of the symbolism of the story and apply it to the video.

  • @bestshowontheweb I did some thinking and in my thinking I've come to the conclusion that you are an idiot. Good bye.

  • @myassin2009 I've come to think that you aren't a deep thinker. The symbolism is about, not love, but overcoming obstacles to get what you most want. You sir, are the idiot.

  • @bestshowontheweb You would get sidetracked and propose some lame and corny shit like "overcoming obstacles and blah blah blah" . Do you have adhd? try to stay on subject. I'm merely disclaiming the idea that "drawing is a walk in the park compared to chess". Next time make sure you dont make assumptions that way, you won't look so dumb.

  • You need to show us a video of how one whilst go about drawing people. THE HOUSE OF MONTULET DEMANDS IT! (A cross between Montegue and Capulet from Romeo and Juliet)

  • You're right! I don't feel that i'm good at drawing, but I watched your spitfire vid (and commented on that) but my drawing is absolutely brilliant! So thankyou very much mate!

  • @Matcham11 Good for you - keep it up :)

  • i suck like positive. and u really teach me to draw PS. im'a ten years old :D

  • @zokuman1 keep working at it - nows the time to really get drawing skills ingrained into your way of life and thinking :)

  • man i wish i had seen this when i was taking classes i hated thoes people they made me feel so crappy so i dropped out and i draw what i wanna draw and i share it with people who actually wanna help me. im not to hot drawing people but i draw objects pretty well.

  • @DeansLILgirl you need to put a little more work into the things you're not so good at. that will then feed into what you are good at and make that even better :) keep up the good work :)

  • you are great at drawing keep it up

  • @radiationghost Thank you - I intend to :)

  • @PassionOfTheArt That's great

  • I so love this video!

  • @1991lauratjeuh Thank you!

  • did you use iMovie for all the letters on the screen?

  • @jjgmenzies I'm using final cut pro X now. :)

  • What you say is very true ! I am French and the French are always negative... I have surprised myself doing things I was negative of at the beginning. And somehow, as time passed, I started to think positively. IT REALLY WORKS !!! ;)

  • @Renamed003 It is unbelievable what the human body, and especially the mind can do

  • @Renamed003 Certainly is :)

  • @Renamed003 It does work, but it's very hard work being positive :)

  • Fake video! Humans do not exist.

  • @artificialguy100 So what are we...?

  • So this is really random but could u do a video on how to draw a unicorn!?! U should put this idea at the top of your very long list becuz that would make me hAppy !!

  • @masvatlivedotca I will one day :)

  • Creating is an essence of life, and the most amazing way to have fun. I think I'm gonna download this into my mp5 so I can watch it whenever I'm down. Thank you for this wonderful video, and I wish God floods you with good karma, as you're a talented artist that encourages others. With so many that think only by destroying others they can flourish, having you around is a blessing and a pleasure.

  • @ZephyrOfDarknessArt Oh! many thanks for that :) bless you too

  • Man, I can't even say how much I agree with you. The people who have brought me down about art the most were:

-my mother, who hasn't drawn a freaking thing since I was born (that is a long time ago)

    - the owner of a site, who only drew copied stuff and hated any original variation to the anime featured in her site.

    - and the owner of another site, who rejects stuff most of the time, and barely does any drawing of her own (has been there for over three years and has less than twenty pics).

  • @ZephyrOfDarknessArt LOL - you have to be quite single minded to do what YOU want to do and you have to search out others who want you ti succeed and don't want to hold yo back. keep at it :)

  • @ShooRaynerDrawing Thank you very much, sensei! I'll treasure those words.

  • see, it works!

there is NO unlikes on this vid

  • @MopedaStyle Im sure some grumpy old misery will find this video eventually :D

  • I find creativity in my sleep world XD before, during and after ;)

  • @shinyspartan mmm sleep! I seem to wake a lot these days!

  • "I am brilliant!" Thanks alot. (:

  • @fosterfanforever01 You Said it ! :D

  • a great message well said!

  • @iona407 Thank you:)

  • Good video :) Misspelt "brilliant" though, on one of your captions :)

  • @anamewillcomelater That's what comes of being dyslexic! makes it more interesting though - like spot the spelling misteak :)

  • @ShooRaynerDrawing Haha! Excellent outlook on it :P

  • Inking video with a dip pen? Please !

  • @xxx11Bloodzxxx I've been thinking about this for a while :)

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAsianRule I think maybe not! :)

  • Awesome video! Thanks so much for your help from your videos on this channel to your videos on drawstuffrealeasy . I actually mentioned in one of my videos to think of the positives, not the negatives!

  • @SaucePuddle Thanks to you too!

  • Hi Mr Rayner. The "Advice for Creatives Playlist" button won't work for me. Is it sleeping, or has my mouse turned rat?

  • @Songuine Fixed it - thanks for pointing it out! :)

  • @alexjmold good - take it easy on yourself - but be firm on improvement :)

  • I am so jealous of how amazing your waterpaintings are >:(

  • @DannyGT1999 don't be jealous - practice practice practice!

  • woo hoo

  • @MrGamigon go! go!

  • I´m very grateful for youre advices(actully I got a "friend" that always says something bad about my drawings, and I can see straight through him, I know he´s jealous.) but I´m happy, cause everybody else think I´m best in the class in drawing.Anyway thanks for all the advices

  • @Pokemania00 Keep smiling :)

  • Thanks for the pep talk Shoo. Your drawing and your attitude is a great inspiration. I sketch bait but most of my creative energy goes into photoshop. I love creating photomontages and drawing images in photoshop using my graphics tablet and pen. Thanks again.

  • @TheBiggervern I spent a lot of time drawing in flash with my tablet a couple of years ago but i found i could draw so much quicker on paper! But I learned a whole lot about layers and placing things in the right place by doing that.

  • Hi Shoo! :D I love these videos!!! I wanted to show you a character design artist, named Melissa Van Der Paardt. She does all these amazing animal drawings. I thought you might like it! Google her name and see for yourself! It's awesome!!!!! :)

  • @gazelleguy I had a look - really nice a warm characters - lovely drawing too!

  • Sat giving evils at my 'bad' graphics work, This little pep talk was just what i needed! Thankyou!

Right, Now to try it again.

  • @dancetothisbeat80 go for it!

  • Sorry Shoo everything you said was great advice for those looking to pursue creative endeavors, however I don't think you should look at criticisms as a form of jealousy. criticisms can often be helpful even when they're hateful because you learn to see the faults in your work.

  • @TheBr00talhamster Hateful criticism is no good to anyone. we are hard enough on ourselves without being sniped at from the side - and my point is that real friends don't make hateful criticism. Real friends are constructive. :)

  • i love the editing! excellent video shoo!

  • @TheTomMck Thanks for noticing - it was bit more work that usual!

  • I used to (still do on occasion) feel shitty abut my skills, even if my grades said different.. when one part went to hell and the thing got burnt up.. sometimes literally -.- anyway, last year in my last year of art school I had a revelation.. I liked what I drew and when I felt that I got better because I felt positive about what I did. It was pretty amazing, the progress I made during 3 months was probably more then I had done in the last 3 years. Positive thinking for the win;) faved*

  • @NamelessPencil Yeah! I'm with you on that - I was almost exactly the same :)

  • After watching this, i played some darts.. :b

  • @DRAGONBALL4VEGETA one hundred and eighty! :D

  • @ShooRaynerDrawing Haha! Yeah!.. :b Actually, i stopped drawing, because i wanted to play darts.. Now im a part of the national junior team of Denmark.. :b But thank you for ur drawing advices, it really helped me when i did draw.. Now i just watch your videoes for fun, and sometimes try draw it myself.. :b And this video, surely can help me at darts when i don't think i'm good enough..

Again, sorry about my english.. :b

  • am arabic am and one of the best fans for u and we arabs use this method; am gonna be better the next time .Thanx for support i like u vids

  • @owali92 You just have have to keep believing you are following the right path, even though the others may seem on a different, maybe easier or more glamorous path - Only you can travel on your path so stick to it! )
