  • Its got such a happy tone, I spent loads of times singing it really loudly through sobs! Haha. Alienation is bullshit but sometimes its realy great to have time to yourselve and dig your depths.

  • This song tells the story of alot of people..I'm a writer and a poet so the lines "I have my books and poetry to protect me" speak alot to me,all the other fits my dark theme of reality; being alone,I may talk to people,I may laugh and smile...but let's face, deep inside; we're all hurting.

  • most days I feel like this, I have to force myself to be social or else I become depressed. My favorite time is time to myself on weekends alone with my piano or guitar. i have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain.

  • Beautiful, brilliant song

  • If you combined Simon and Garfunkel I think that he would look like Will Ferrel.

  • my all time best

  • Anybody who has ever been a loner or outcast or ever been shunned this is your anthem. OUR anthem.

  • I'm having a lovely Simon and Garfunkel fest today - this song makes me very sad though, it's beautifully written but incredibly sad. Perhaps I need to be more of a rock and less of a fool :(

  • Paul Simon a good Jewish boy and Art Garfunkel...love them always

  • I am so old i remember when this hit the top ten on Am radio,,but i look and feel young ,I have their old lps and several cds and ive been able to find much better quality music on you tube ...Hey no advert or product plug ..its true when looking for old songs some of the uploads are awesome

  • @climbnprana I think I like you :)

  • best friends... best song

  • best song ever

  • Aw what a cute vid :) beautiful song

  • Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures. I wish no more than this, O Lord. Into your hands I commend my soul; I offer it to you with all the love of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands, without reserve, and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father.
  • @tommerrigan1956 Is it just me... or does anyone else find that scary?

  • @tommerrigan1956 I'm gonna be frank with you, your "O Lord" psychobabble is making me a bit uncomfortable. I'm trying to get my hippie on with Simon & Garf, could you leave the Jesus talk on some bible thumpin' video next time? I'm sure you understand... Many thanks!

  • deruntertag: Wonderfully done. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • A razor-sharp diamond-clear dazzling lyrical allegory of self-denied loneliness! A never- fading haunting masterpiece of song that will keep on echoing for ever in the highest spheres of the musical universe!

  • Increíblemente hermosa!

  • Still the best song, I adopted the words in the late sixtys,...and a rock feels no pain...

  • The only way to be trust no one suspect every one never let any one get close stay alone build a fortress around your heart love = pain love no one be an island unto your self and you will spare yourself a lot of pain

  • One of my favorite songs and Musicians of "our past" ..."twill never out-grow" this tune and its' meaning. It's carried me from the worst times but always makes me a happy kind of gal...."Touche' - to S & G" for their creativity and sounds of music that make my life happy!

  • i feel like this every freakin' day at school.

  • These guy's do have good yet deep messages to their music, I love it.

  • I was born in 1978 my old man loves this music ,its apart of me.There is to much main stream crap out there, these guy's had a message and i can still hear it.

  • I don't care what anyone says - those were the good old days! We had geat artists who made great music!

  • I, too, am a rock. Do not need anything. People are painful.

  • @peppertee

Remember, everyday is a gift, and there are people who love you. This IS true! Remember this too, someday someone will need you, they will be counting on you. That's love.

  • Actually I am a glass is half full kind of person, this song and words is so true to this dayl.

  • Perhaps, the best song ever written?

  • @peppertee perhaps... just perhaps...

  • @peppertee I totally agree....

  • i love this song, was brought up with these :)

im 18 & still listening to them! <3333

  • What makes this song very popular is because sometime in our lives we became this rock. There is always a rock in everyone of us.

  • boots 37, what do you consider a hippie? we are the best generation of music....yours cant come close to it..... and rap is not music .....its b.s. without anything in comand regarding to instrumental....

  • @joseph95239 that's a pretty broad statement to make! there are good musicians in nearly every genre of music (including a lot of crap!). Eminem may not be up your street, but he has been described as a fantastic lyricist by many people, most importantly the fabulous poet seamus heaney.

  • @joseph95239 your generation was a bunch of granola buttfucks music died on the deathbed of Frederic Francois Chopin in 1849

  • @BabyJesus607

If you don't like this type of music what are you doing listening to it? Find the type of music you are interested in and allow the rest of us to enjoy the song.

  • @BabyJesus607 Nice trolling.

  • I hoped you rick'rolled me

  • To me, this describes New York exactly

  • i, too, try to be a rock

  • ya screw a camel u fuckin cunt

  • simply beautiful

  • It's funny how everyone is trying to boast about how long they've liked Simon & Garfunkel, and how young they were when THEY started listening to them. Good ol' youtube, I'll keep coming back for more!

  • @XxDarkSamus150777xX You better go f*** you. This song is pure poetry.

  • @XxDarkSamus150777xX Screw a camel dickweed!

  • in the same boat illyria =(

  • Two big child ;)

  • @mwebber69 lol they high as shit. im like this when in high...love them

  • Whoever thinks Simon & Garfunkel aren't hip surely hasn't seen them in scarves and skinny jeans.

  • Just to back up what a lot of others are saying, age is no indication of taste in music (not any more anyways) :) I'm 17 and I LOVE S&G, as well as a lot of modern stuff around (not rap or r'n'b tho, eugh!) :) seriously, I believe I have a version of every song they ever recorded, and I pretty much know the lyrics to every single one :-S went through a phase at about 12 when I listened to nothing but these guys :-P

  • about the dialogue of rap music and ''ti old shit'' i say that rap is a good thing when it's made for denunciate something wrong in the society. But musically i thing that the ''old'' products are better. By the way, Simon & garfunkel are two of the best singer and composer of all times, because they were eclectic and ''in'' their music. And i think who dislikes a song or a band just because is old is a stupid. and like beatles said, ''Leaving is easy with eyes (and ears) closed.''

  • I guess we have failed as a society to educate most but not all of our younger generation. They understand one most 4 letter words but only the profane ones. To bad they can't get the meaning of this one. I would be a great improvement on their total being. To those younger folks who got it, you are excluded from my statement.

  • @boots37822 Stop looking at generations. History repeats itself. I guarantee your parents were saying the same shit about your generation, and their parents before them. Hippies think they're so unique, it's hilarious.

  • this is a profound song... hits close to home... sorry you can't get it.

  • I am this person they are signing about Just let it be

  • The perfect lyrics. . .sheer poetry.

  • was absolutely crazy over them when i was 10- 12, i'm not 15 and i still love them.

    GOTTA LOVE THE SIXTIES!

  • this song is so gay!

  • @vmt056 and u sir have NO taste in real music

  • @mikeb270 sorry it was me who commented on this song, the account vmt056 belongs to my older brother i was using it by mistake

  • @vmt056 gay stupid:no

    gay happy: yes

  • ha you loser looking for rap! i'm 17 and i seriously despair for the music around these days, Simon and Garfunkel give me faith again! idiot

  • @Cheese0Burger Oh my god, you are so stupid. This "rap" is just full of offensive words, same as you used and you call that art? That's nowhere near music, neither art. And when you find one of the finest pieces of music, you just stick with "fuck this shit"? This, my friends, is horrible state of society. Good music is ignored and commerce songs full of offensive language, naked woman and expensive cars is appreciated among youth.

  • @Termikxs dude how old r u? u sound like my old man!

btw rap is way better than this old people shit

  • @Cheese0Burger "Dude" I'm 17, and I may sound like "old man" but one thing is true - rap is just... stupid.

  • @Termikxs 17 my ass,i checked ur channel and u said there that ur 25..and i think y sound like my old man its bcuz ur from sum place called czech republic ( WTF is that a real name),so u c where im goin...

  • @Cheese0Burger Oh my god, of course Czech Republic is real moron, it's place where I live. and do you really consider "25" as old? Well, if I remember correctly there was some age limit or something, anyways what is in my profile doesnt really matter, does it? I stand behind my opinion. I will try to translate it into your language, ok? "Rap is crap, so fuck off". I hope you understand this kind of language. Does it really matter if I am 70 or 17 to have such opinion?

  • @Termikxs

1_have u ever heared of ssumthin called sarcasim?

2_i ddnt say 25 is old,its just stupid 2 lie like this....

and rap is btr than this crapy 50ies almost song

  • @Cheese0Burger As I said, I dont lie, there used to be some kind of limit to see one video on Youtube, so I made my age a little higher. And I am free to admit I am 17 ...

    Crapy 50's? That's 60' man. ;)

Im just saying rap is not musing. It's talking "shit" with some beats in the background.

  • @Termikxs idioot, learn to not generalise.

  • Are you going away from me?? Cause i still herez 4u man.

  • Beautiful. I love it when I can really relate to someones words and feelings. This song has helped me so much today. Thank you S&G.

  • Wow, I miss the days when music was intelligent and said something deep and meaningful.

  • I'M 12 AND I LISTEN TO SIMON AND GARFUNKLE!!!! XD

so stick that in your juice box and suck it! XD

  • everything must change, I get that. But things aren't right, this cannot be real. Ignore it, it will go away? Some things demand enormous amounts of attention, ignoring them just makes them go further to be alpha.

  • 그러고 보면 나 참 사이먼 & 가펑클에 대한 추억이 많구나....

  • "I got my books and my poetry to protect me."

  • I was born in '95 and I love Simon & Garfunkel, they are best!

  • @Oggy250 i was born in 95 too n i think they're awsome. its great to see other people my age like them!!!!!

  • 大好きです!

  • This is song is so depressing/insular that it's funny.

  • @sstyblo I think your struggling to mean melancholy.

  • I like the other black and white video of them running through the streets showing the "Pizza 15 Cents A Piece" sign. Great-great song. I'd like to see the Wallflowers do this (if they're still together.)

  • I love this song. Sadly enough though it sounds just like me.

  • @illyria28 yea i know the feeling, hiding in my room, safe within my womb. i touch noone and noone touches me!

  • simons so cool because from 0:24 to 0:47 he acts like a 6 year old

  • agreed! at the end hes even got Garfunkel joining in! result!

  • According to your channel you were born near 1993. I don't think your negative opinion of this music is valid. You'll hopefully come around in a decade or so.

  • @Talkingtrash247 i was born in 1993 :X , and i love this song !

  • @Talkingtrash247 Ageist, and pretty redundant opinion. Age isn't an indication of intelligence. Hopefully you learn that one day. Keep at it.

  • @DavoRocksBam WHAT????? ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT

  • Listened to this song in English class today. Read For Whom the Bell Tolls over the summer. I love how they try to defy John Donne but ultimately agree with his views. He has his books and poetry, but someone wrote those. He is apart from society, but still gazes at them.

  • So truthful song.

  • "No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

  • "No man is an island", Apart from Barry

  • @bassettlad Goldwater?? ;)

  • @robvig60 No mate Barry Island, a seaside town where i live!!

  • "It is true, that which I have revealed to you; there is no God, no universe, no human race, no earthly life, no heaven, no hell. It is all a dream - a grotesque and foolish dream. Nothing exists but you. And you are but a thought - a vagrant thought, a useless thought, a homeless thought, wandering forlorn among the empty eternities!"

    -Mark Twain's "The Mysterious Stranger"

  • "We're only stardust"

  • Were is that from?

  • Alex Garland 'Sunshine'

  • I see, thank you very much.

  • This is the song that I usually start off my 1st set during each show.

  • I was 16 years old, driving around in my mother's car (having just obtained my driver's licence). I felt miserable. So sad and worried about my place in this world. I would listen to this song over and over again while driving. I realize today that it made me stronger. It helped me build an armour that I needed since I was so easily hurt, although I have never forsaken love and friendship. This song sort of helped me build self-confidence. I love these artists. So tender and down to earth.

  • my fav S&G song
