  • You look like the guy from Tosh.O

  • this will sound stupid, but, only have two inputs on the mbox, and 3/4 on the mixer. Does this mean you can only use two channels altogether?

  • @iplaydrumsye

To be honest...I am tech stupid so nothing is stupid! ;)

I have simplified my set up and do not use the mixer anymore. I just dont have the need. VO is all mono and (in my case) simplicity=clarity.

From the MBox...just two channels. yes

  • So did you like the preamps from the mixer rather than the mbox? Also, can you connect the mixer to the computer without an interface?

  • @LiveLimitlessTv This mixer does not have a firewire or usb interface available to connect to the computer. The other issue though is that this version of pro-tools (v. 8 LE) required the m-box. Thankfully version 9 does not require m-box. I did like to be able to adjust setting before the signal got to the computer but in the end i decided it didnt matter all that much. I actually went back to just the M-box for 2 reasons. I was worried about noise. I was mixer stupid.

  • @LiveLimitlessTv With tax season...i will upgrade to pro-tools 9 and work through a mixer. I have done a lot more homework than before.

  • @keza123123123 get pro tools 9 and buy ANY usb 2.0 mixer.. best one that ive come across is the alesis multimix 16 usb 2.0 with 16 channels, 8 mic pre amps. this mixer sends each signal seperatley.. if the mixer is not usb 2.0 it will not send all the channels just the final mix...

  • Hooah Soldiers in the studio... I set mine up in my barracks room!!

  • @901Louie Nice! I had mine in a hotel closet at Ft. Lee for 3 months. Craziness!

  • You must been an officer. Anyway, what XLR cables do I need ? I have a different mixer but I am under the same concept. I am using a MIC, keyboard, and Logic Pro. Completely need to the hardware as I was using FL Studio to compose and record before.

    Thanks

  • @HENGOVA I was enlisted for 5 years prior. I am "mixer stupid". I am not a good audio/sound guy really. I keep my chain pretty simple to keep the noise low low low. I used the guy at guitar center to make sure I had it put together right in my head before I went home.

  • i was wondering if u could show me da back of da box while ur doing it cant really see wat ur doing back there lol.i have a makie vlz3 n da same mbox but i still cant follow thru da tutorial.i would like to see da back.i got everything working but when i record n hit stop it echos.thank you man ill b looking foward for da tutorial.u da man.

  • Nice video ....you look so alike Jim carey by the way!

  • are you daniel toshes father?

  • so are you plugging the midi into the direct input L + R?

  • You look like jim carrey!

  • @pooper1102 Crazy huh?! You look like David Keener!

  • Your Vid was the only I found of this sort...Protools MBox and Mixer connection......Thanx 4 the info, good luck on the voice overs...

  • @MrRamses2 Thanks. Take care

  • My mixer is a Eurorack UB1202, doesn't have a XLR Main Out like yours does, but does have a L/R phone out. For stereo, am I suppose to connect L phone to input 1, and R phone to input 2 on mbox mini? Also where is the other cable connected to on your mbox? Is the sound coming out of the monitors through the mbox or mixer. Thanks alot, I've been trying to figure out how to connect the mbox with my mixer for a while.

  • but, are you recording in mono ?

  • @MovimentoOcultoTV I am recording in mono. VOs are not recorded in stereo. There are complicated issues with recording in stereo and mixing that with other mixes. This is a VO industry standard.

  • where did you get your foam?

  • @LilRoyBeatsTv I got the foam from walmart or target actually. Its the memory foam that is about 2 inches thick. Its all rolled up in a package and comes in different sizes. It will help deaden the space but will not help with sound proofing.

  • @acsherm3 I wanted to buy some but I hate the color. If I spray it black would it mess it up? Also thanks for replying.

  • The mixer can be USB cable to plugin at pro tools ? Yes O nOt ? Bcuz I only Foun USB plugging !

  • @JhonesElRealTv the newest version of pro-tools can be plugged into any phantom power type of mixer. Only the newest version though....the older versions were proprietary.

  • Hey Adam, thank you very much for posting these videos, they have become inspiring as well as informing. Where are you now in your journey into VO? Keep the videos coming and keep us up to date.

  • where did u get the foam

  • @swaggkidcheckit I got it at Target. Its in the bedding section. Its just that memory foam you can buy. Check out the new studio i built. Have some amazing stuff in there. The difference is amazing...even on these videos you can tell.

  • nope. no quality change. It would let me mix music with my voice overs prior to the signal getting to the protools.....but protools can do anything the mixer can do just without adding other mics or an instrument maybe. I actually have gone back to just the m-box. Less connections....less noise...for me anyway

  • hey wats the difference of having a mbox and a mixer and just the mbox?

does it change the quality or wat?

  • hey the vid helped me out quite a bit but were you running your monitor(s) through your mbox or your mixer? get back to me let me know which one and if theres a diifference

  • u remind me of the father on malcolm in the middle

  • Very helpful dude. Thanks!!!

  • Hey man great vid. Im gonna buy a mixer, subwoofer, two studio monitors, midi keyboard and few other things. I have already Steinberg CI-2, could you advice me if I still need anything else to buy or do I have then everything I need? I'm using Cubase on PC btw, and own an guitar so I don't know if I have everything important

  • oh it has the protools8 mpowered right???

  • @THASICKBOYzENT Yep. Thats it. Protools 9 will allow you to use any interface now. Protools 8 and below forces you to use the mBOX. Protools 9 is like 6 hundred and the upgrade is between 2 and 3 hundred.

    FYI

  • oh how much was you m box??

  • @THASICKBOYzENT The M BOx came with Protools and I think it was around 3-4 hundred. Its been a few years. Sorry I can't be more definitive.

  • oh okay bro???thanks

  • its okay bro???great mic by the way??

  • its okay bro???

  • oh yu think my rca cabls to the fast track to the mixer would that work???

  • @THASICKBOYzENT

I have no idea what a fast track is. The most I know about audio stuff is the equipment I have.

  • hey bro can you connect a mixer to m-audio fast track with the 48v with singel mic input???

  • @THASICKBOYzENT I am not sure what the fast track is. The mixer should be able to connect to the audio source and the 48 v (ghost power for the mic) should be fine with a single mic...

BUT...Talk to the guys at a Guitar Center if you have one near you... I only know what I know...and it aint much! Good luck out there

  • @THASICKBOYzENT yes u could

  • My god he looks like jim Carey hahaha

  • dude you suck at explaining stop improvising

  • @imkoolaid1022911 no shit sherlock. this is for me...its not a "how you should" its a how i did.

  • hey bro!!! I am actually recording my drums, and i am using logic 9 pro.

My question is if I can get the same sound from a mixer as the interface, because it is a different story once you have your mics connected to the mixer and doing one by one on the interface!!!!!

  • Using this set up can you record multiple inputs at once? I'm trying to figure out a way to record drums. I have the Mbox mini and looking into getting an 8 channel mixer

  • can you use all mixers throug the mbox?

  • @MEGAMANOK96 I am not sure. I would think so though. I do all my technical queries at the Guitar Center in town. Check them out and find a guy you like or trust to show you around.

  • Active duty? Are you a Reservist?

  • @rodanosamehr i didnt notice your comment until now. Sorry about that. I am in the Utah Army Guard. So reserve component.

  • Great video.Good job.I have a Mackie SR24-4 and needed an idea for hook up.From MPC200xl(8 audio out) To Mixer (Ins) To Digi 002 rack .Equipment in a extra room in apartment with no doors. Next to 22 yr old rm and Dog.Sound and privacy being compromised...lol. Might just find some closet space like you....lol. Where did you get padding?Where did you get rack/shelving.How did you secure it?Good luck with deployment.Stay safe

  • @Jahmylov i bought a staple gun actually to keep it on the wall. I could have hung it from nails as well from the top. I bought the padding at Walmart...Or Target.....cant remember. Its just the queen size bed top.

  • can i ask you to do voice over for me please free

  • @bigpumpHD let me know what i can do for you.

  • awesome! Im military as well. Difficult to balance things. I do music, 11b, as well as online courses. Yikes. Thx for info helped alot.

  • I can honestly say coming from Atlantic Studios where I initially work... there is NO difference in sound between a metal pop filter and a silk/nylon pop filter. If your using EXCESSIVE POPS... the metal will however pick it up. But if your not TRYING to push your P's hard... your going to get the same result bro.

  • @JoshuaBeeLoved

Ah Sweet! Thanks for the advise. Thats why I have you guys....to teach me what I dont know.

  • @acsherm3 Haha, no problem bro. Anytime.
