Awesome video. I learned this a while back all plucking. I tried to tab it out for tapping but couldn't work it out, found it awkward in a few places. I'm only playing a 4 string. Would you say playing a 5 string makes it easier or just different? And did you by any chance learn this from a tab that you could point me to?
@CoconutVSPineapple I tabbed it out like... 10 years ago probably. I'm sure I have it saved somewhere. Send me a message with your email and I'll send it your way.
What did you practice to get so good at tapping? That's my only weak point in my playing, I ain't the greatest tapper, and I think it's like the coolest looking thing.
Nice one !!...If you like Bach Solo pieces...plz feel free to check out my version of The Bach Sonata in G Minor, using the thumb-pluck methods...this is cool !
Good job! I posted the same prelude on my bass, but I think yours is more like it should be done,i played it just by listening to stu's record. Different use of positions and fingers so it was quite interesting to me. Nice work dude!!
hi, nice video, ive seen Stuart Hamm playing it in his clinic video and if i dont remember well he was playing it different, im not so sure, i must watch Hamm's one more time to confirm it
When have you seen it before? I really don't know any other way to play it other than the way I do. It seems like playing it any differently would only make it harder! But yes, I did make a tab for it when I first transcribed it 7 or so years ago (when I was 13).
actually my classical guitar teacher played it for me on a bass liek 2 years ago... i dont take lessons from him anymore, he didn't move around teh neck as much as you do but had more movement from his left hand... but i really adored the way you played it, so in no way shape or form i woudl even suggest htat you changed it... ehahehaehea.... do you think you could share those tabs? hehe i know i am asking for a lot so dont be affraid to say no
How much strength do you need in your fingers to be able to play constant tapping? I've been playing for 3 years and have never been able to get the tap under my fingers and I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can you suggest any exercise's etc?
How much strength? I have no idea. I've been playing for just under 10 years, and tapping has always been one of my strengths. The weakest finger for most bass players is their plunking hand's pinky finger, so you just have to strengthen it up! As fas as good exercises...this tune is a pretty good exercise. ;)
I think it really doesnt take much strenght.Just place the tip of finger with good speed between ur frets and keep it there steady as long as you want the tone to last then let go.Just practice one finger one tone till you get familiar with it and the tone sounds clear. Then progress other finger etc.etc.Have fun !!
Nah, although the prelude to the first cello suite does sound quite similar (though in G major instead of C). Here's a link if you're interested in hearing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqT9bt7qe_c&mode=related&search=bach%20cello . Thanks!
Bach sounds great with that sweet electric bass tone.

WOW!! It is AMAZING to hear this on a bass. Have you thought of recording an album of Baroque music on the bass? It would be AMAZING!!

It is. I love it. It's an older model made of 100% maple, though. The newer models are alder/walnut/maple, I believe.
