I heard filippinos have some mixed spanish and chinese blood, but that is very small percentage. but yes, they are very pre-occupied with beauty pageants they cannot win, except in the philippines. and for the past 59 years now, conuntries speak their own language, it is part of the pageant, that's the reason for interpreters. I disagree with you Mariaisabella. We cannot expect all delegates to speak English. The interpreters are there to convey their messages. It is also charming when they speak in their own languages, it is part and parcel of their cultures, like their national costumes. Besides that they are there to compete in a beauty pageant, not for a 'express yourself in English' competition.

They should not have judged the contestants based on their final statements. Their answers were obviously rehearsed and maybe someone else even wrote it for them. Since they were judged on delivery alone, Ms. Philippines should have won, but who did her hair? she looked like a Lhasa Apso.

Miss Venezuela should not have won as she could not communicate, even with an interpreter she could not even attempt to give a simple answer to the question about her liking english tea. Instead she gave a robotic learnt speech. The main part of the Miss World job is to be able to speak to people at functions all over the world in English, so whats the point of her winning as she cant speak or answer simple questions.

All the girls did a wonderful job with their interviews but am I the only one who is questioning miss Philippines' gender? Honestly normally Filipino candidates are very pretty but this years candidate looks like a pre-op transexual. I think miss south africa should be in top 3 instead of Venezuela. These pageant institutions and organizations should encourage those candidates to speak ENGLISH for their responsibility is to travel the world and engage in different charity acts. Miss Venezuela completely ignored the question she was asked via an interpreter about her liking for drinking English tea and just gave a silly robotic type speech, something clearly already learnt and rehearsed.
