American meals are big for a reason. It wasn't that long ago when America was composed mainly of people that worked very physically demanding jobs from sun up to sun down and needed all the calories they could get. The society changed rather quickly and we have yet to adapt our traditions and lifestyles. I always say if you plan on coming to America avoid the cities(LA, etc...), that's not the real America.Stephen Fry said his favorite state was Kentucky(my home state), it is beautiful in Fall.
@RCTPatriot75 I know your comment was written a year ago, but I feel the need to say that I'm a bit offended. Of course the big cities are part of the "real" US. Perhaps when you think of LA you think mostly of Hollywood and Disneyland and places like that, but you should also realize that there are tons of completely normal, hardworking people, who live Hollywood-free lives. These people are certainly real Americans, and I count myself among them.
What an amazing trip! It's actually what I would hope most people would see when they come to the West: our national parks, LA, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. You visited one of my all-time favorite destinations in Frisco (an appellation the natives hate), the Musee Mechanique. I've spent many handfulls of quarters there. I try to stay repleat with quarters for such places and for the bums who abound there, as you probably noticed. Really terrific video and comentary!
Someone once explained to me that a bum is a stationary tramp, a tramp is a bum in motion, and a hobo is a tramp that will occasionally work. I don't think many people actually hold these distinctions very strictly, but in America it does seem that if you are a tramp then you've got to have the road moving 'neath your feet.

San Francisco is one of my favourite places in the world. Ive been before I just love it.
In England we call bums tramps, which made a lot of American laugh which I kept calling them tramps.
