all gearwire videos suck because its blah blah blah...no demos. if you want demos listen to that japanese veteran programmer (musictrack jp) or keybdwizrd.
Currently I have a problem running alot of different tracks that use big, heavy VSTI's like orchestra cold, colossus and such. I wonder how they run on this thing? How are they being installed? Apart from the fact this is more stable than a comptuer, does a system link (like steinberg's) not do the same trick , for the purpose I want to use it for (more power to run alot of heavy vsti's and vst's at the same time). Is this easier or less easy to set up and such? Or is just going 64 bit better?
well the Vmachine has glitches.. and its not too powerful. Their new VRACK promises to be very powerful . 'if' they ever put it out.....its the trouble with small companies. They are selling used first gen receptors over at muse's plugorama i think
i'm sorry if i may ask what's the difference if i hook up my keyboard/controller and play it on standalone VST/music recording software without Receptor? why would someone needs the module since we can host any VST into software? i just can't wrap my head around this matter.
Basically, a computer is a computer, but Receptor is a music instrument. Killer audio inputs and outputs, built in MIDi interface, and dedicated hardware front panel are just some of the things that make it VERY different from your computer.
nah, a receptor is a computer, just with a custom os and in a music friendly form factor; it does nothing your computer cant... its like a poor man's miko... a "because i can" piece of gear...
i have seen a lot of producers and djs crash on stage. I could name them, but I'm pretty sure they would prefer I not. Personally, my laptop crashed while running ableton during a band performance. It was not pretty, and the lead singer had to stall for time for about three minutes while I rebooted. not fun.
Ive noticed that Pendulum synth player Rob Swire has got about 12 of these in 2 different racks ASWELL as laptops on top of those racks. Why would they need 12 of these PLUS laptops?? Shouldnt 1 be sufficient?
its because he has two midi keyboards playing two different patches at the same time, and i think the laptops are used via the korg Padkontrol, and i know they use ableton a little bit live
laptops crash a lot live, even macbook pros will crash now n then.
if you keep a laptop still and cool n dont stress the cpu much it mote not crash running a cpu friendly daw like reaper or reason+record in the studio or at home. but move a laptop around n put it next to other over heated equipment then strain the cpu runnin ableton live n vsts to multi outs or somthing along those lines n its just a matter of time till u crash no matter what laptop or ma you are using.
seriously? you do realize it's a computer meant to run vsts...it's not a vst or synth itself. however, we do have demos of the ik software on the gearwire site.
rob swire from Pendulum must use like at some points at least 5 patches in the same song, playing a guitar shapeed midi controller while singing, and i cant see him pressing any buttons!
thank you. it really is everything they promise it to be. This is a great way to have a stable hardware solution to using your plugins live. The ideal would be sending midi data from ableton and using this as a sound module. Add in something like Guitar Rig, and you've got a live performance powerhouse.
these are way more stable than most laptops (macs included). Think about everything that has to run on a laptop, while this thing is only running it's basic OS and then plugins. That's it. Add to that amazing technical specs, and you can understand the advantage. For anyone who has crashed a laptop during a performance, this thing is a lifesaver.

I wonder if you can connect more then one midi controller on one single Receptor. Could I use the multiple usb ports to do that???
Anemoniac 2 years ago
Seeing anyone attempting to demystify these things is helpful, but I'm yet to watch a video that really shows how it works.
The receptor operating system maybe perfectly practical, but it looks uncomfortable to use.
How is it to use without a monitor attached?

I want one of those. I have stompio and could use that setup along with sampletank 2.5xl. The idea of a hardware vst solution is brilliant.
fridrikur 3 years ago
also, you should look at vmachine. by sm pro audio. It's dirt cheap and much smaller if portability is your concern.

I own one myself (not the IK-version though)... it's the best thing that happened to me ! great concept, 100% reliable .. road worthy... )

i still dont understand what these are useful for but a waste of money
maybe for people used to hardware synths?

you could do the same on a winpe installation.
