They may have been the first to implement some tactics but rest assured, Patton already had a good idea of how to use armor on the field and Billy Mitchell had already come up with plans for a combined arms strategy long before Von Paulus and Rommel.

1942 is hardly when the fighting was 'almost over'. And the Germans were nowhere near defeat in June 1944 when the Americans (aided by the Canadians and British) launched Operation Overlord. @XIronChancellorX We could play this thought exercise forever. The long and short of it is Allied bombing had little effect until they targeted transport and oil infrastructure. Lend lease certainly helped the Russians hold on in 42/43, and was the only thing that allowed them to bring the war to the Germans in a timely fashion (trucks). If the USA had not entered WW2, the only change would have been that the Russians took Berlin in 1947/48 (assuming no NAZI A-bomb!).

Plus really without the US there would of never been a western front or effective bombing....

The 5 years you mention gave the allies time to regroup, organize, and add new members. If the Germans had sued for peace after taking France, and had not tried to carve up the USSR, the 5 year reich may still exist today.

@ThugCologne Revolutionary? The German army was still using horses as it's main mode of transportation in 1941. They may have been the first to implement some tactics but rest assured, Patton already had a good idea of how to use armor on the field and Billy Mitchell had already come up with plans for a combined arms strategy long before Von Paulus and Rommel.

And yes, the Wehrmacht used horses for transport, too, only the Spearhead was motorised and encircles the enemy so that the following infantery could take them out, but that was Blitzkrieg warfare.
And revelutionary? YES, their tactics and weapons were far ahead of its time!

1942 is hardly when the fighting was 'almost over'. And the Germans were nowhere near defeat in June 1944 when the Americans (aided by the Canadians and British) launched Operation Overlord. May I suggest you read more, my poor friend. And when you think you know enough the subject, read some more still. The only thing they did was both kept an invasion of the UK and sped up the time in which Germany fell. Basically the US was the most major player in WW2 on the Allies. Without them no D-Day or even Italian invasion. The UK could of gotten Africa but that is probably the most they could of done....

@XIronChancellorX We could play this thought exercise forever. The long and short of it is Allied bombing had little effect until they targeted transport and oil infrastructure. Lend lease certainly helped the Russians hold on in 42/43, and was the only thing that allowed them to bring the war to the Germans in a timely fashion (trucks). If the USA had not entered WW2, the only change would have been that the Russians took Berlin in 1947/48 (assuming no NAZI A-bomb!).

Also the major reason the Germans had little to no supplies in the East is thanks to the allied bombing. And a major reason the Germans couldn't build a decent amount of tanks is thanks to it to. Plus really without the US there would of never been a western front or effective bombing....

So tell me again how the US was useless, because they entered the war relatively early. Sure they didn't join in at the start but still they where in the majority of the war. Plus I don't like Patton much but if he was in charge after D-Day, the Allies would of reached Berlin before the Soviets.

The reason the germans couldn't move as fast as planned is because the plan was bollocks. The german general staff couldn't do the logistics planning for the large movements that were required. The socialist/command economy wasn't allowed to provide price information, without which efficiency could not be judged.

@ZabuzaSOULESS Impressive. I hope this shitload of WRONG did not come out of your own mind. Your "DZI" (actually IdZ) is a CONCEPT for an infantryman's EQUIPMENT. Of course, you could try and hurl PDAs and radios towards the Taliban. You may even hit one on the head. Not to mention that the GSG 9 is a police unit and think about the KSK's purpose. Hint: neither do they guard prison camps nor are they a dedicated branch of the armed forces. Get your facts straight.

@Xatarnak - The tender guys, that are fighting in Afghanistan are not the German Army. They are only boyscouts of the "Bundesrepublik Deutschland". :-)
