A guest spot on OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN'S 1978 SPECIAL was part of ABBA's push into America. They perform Dancing Queen, Fernando and Take A Chance On Me. Dancing Queen sounds more rhythmic, more Americanized. There is a jam session with Olivia in the mold of Elvis' 68 Comeback Special. They do Jailhouse Rock which was the first record Benny bought. Olivia was an Australian version of Agnetha. Her popularity was partly due to her not becoming a mother until she was nearly 40.
i love abba , probably the best music ever, you know i'd get an abba tattoo , i just really don't know where to get it and what of.. anyone have any suggestions
Me gustó mucho esta unión de voces, me parece que era una época de oro e inolvidable de la música, Andy Gibb, Abba y Olivia Newton lo máximo!!!!!!!!!! Saludos desde Huancayo - Perú.

@Nicole65104eva: sexy god?? he's in high heels, and he walks with legs wide open, a singer walking like a cowboy AND wearing heels, how is ittsexy to you? the abba guys are sexy.
@t0mme1981: WTF -- the chic underwent a psychotic break --- from lovely blonde-granola-gal -- the onetime 1970s' embodiment of Pop-Culture-Sincerity [oxymoron 'ism (she even duo'ed with eg, John Denver)], plucking human-heartstrings with an oeuvre of titles/lyrics eg, Have You Never Been Mellow, I Honestly Love You, modestly & demurely attired (quite angelic at times) etc to brash tackiness: Xanadu, Let's Get Physical etc...diametrical extremes. Again, the ultimate in Pop-Poop-Multi-Culturalism
She (or he) went from looking lovely, with some semblance of "natural", warped in an artfully crafted (err, peroxide) nearly angelic fair-haired-gal, projecting a refined, intelligent and sincere image.... to effectively repelling her fan base in an ill-advised bid to remain "relevant" and current, repackaged in 1980s "material girl" loud-brassy-tackiness .... with a whole lot of ... err ... dyke tossed into the mix .... right? Wow -- what a waste ... a nightmare course in self-debasement.

I will never say the new generation has crappy taste. I will only say you can't deny this music at this time was in so many ways awesome. If you didn't have to re-set the needle on a record player.... do not comment.
Well I think a big missing ingredient in today's music is the orchestra. Orchestras were so common for pop in the 50s and 60s...think of Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin...everybody.
So in the 70s, especially the late 70s with disco, you still had all those orchestra musicians involved as kind of a holdover. But since the 80s, they haven't come back.
WOW.... this just goes to show that you need much to entertain if the the people participating actually CARED about what they were doing.... here is an incredible example of pure entertainment... true musicianship... it's a sin people don't get to experience this sort of incredibleness these days... what is going on in this world of ours.... we have lost all our good writers of song... God help us....
yes, this is good ole music... born in the 60's grew up listening to this beautiful music! How can you not love this??? Feel the beat, mix up your feet and groove to the beat... easy listening ~~~~~~
The loss of Andy Gibb was something that was so hard to understand. seemingly had everything and then, lost. is very sad that everyting isnt everything without at the very least the promise of love. we have in Christ.
my dad always played abba in the garage when i was little. pure talent here, no digital editing or lip syncing. i wish the current music scene was this raw and real!
@oliverburke lol!! Did you know that Andy had a lower vocal range than Barry but when he hit the high notes he really hit em hard, God.....I miss Andy!! he was such a sweety.
Well know that I can proudly say this music was a big part of my generation and life. It was brand new music and the best. These are hits that kept on living through the generations, I know because I have seen them come back, playing once again on our radio stations across the country.
Glad to hear that most of you here do appreciate the music and the era. That was the look and the style and it was very hip....Just remember that every generation of music and artist had there looks and style.
From an era when women looked gorgeous instead of looking like pornstars and just sang for the love of singing instead of using music to project their sexuality.
Absolutely bizarre as this statement may appear here, a lot of people (including myself to some degree) took this music FOR GRANTED in the 1970's. There was a lot of it around, plus a lot of competition from rock groups like Foreigner, Supertramp, Chicago, etc. I was an O.N.J. and Abba fan, but they were to some degree lost among all the others, and were also in the wake of the powerful 60's bands and culture (Beatles, Stones, Doors, Cream, etc.)
@TheSpiritofAbba --I was a teen in the 80s and grunger in the 90s. My first love is heavy metal and rock, but when I am through being angry and sad, I reach for the safety blanket of the warm, soothing pop music of the 60s, 70s and 80s to make me human again. Like you, I never thought in a million years that the creative culture that gave life to all that melodic music would disappear into the abyss of time. I thought it would be around forever. Sadly, its gone for good, and I feel destitute.
I was 9 when all this music and clothes were about and it was so visually powerfull in 1978, Olivia, the Bee Gees, Andy Gibb, ABBA, etc, Satin trousers, feel blessed I can remember it all.
q chiste olvivia tan linda, le buscaba la mirada a las abba para hacer un poco de complicidad, pero las europeasson un poco mas secas, al final del video ellas tambein corresponden.
Somehow the blonde ABBA gal, Agnetha (Anna), seems to have gotten the most attention over the years. I always thought she was more "girl next door" than Frida (Anni-Frid) and that Frida was the tall beauty. Frida seemed more exotic, and she is married to royalty right now, so I guess she is the more aristocratic as well. Everybody had a personal favorite, and mine was Frida. Agnetha was voted best bottom in pop music back in the 70's.
@TaliskerLaphroaig I totally agree with you. To me, Frida was the center of ABBA, not agnetha... Frida is more Original than Agnetha. Both Girls have and incredible beauty, but FRIDA, its unic.
reading these comments, you are all right... this is what real music is... most of the music today is bad rip off of the melodies of most 70's/80's songs.
I just thank our creator for all these great performers and the joy they bring to our hearts from listening to and watching them perform., Music sung from the heart, not Computer generated TRASH
andy, abba and olivia are all artists from my older sisters' generation, but...i prefer THEM than most of the rappers that crowded the music scene from the 90s to present. and as a note, i'd like for EVERYONE to STOP referring to rappers as MUSICIANS. cuz...they're NOT. the djs might be wizards on turntables, but they don't play one single instrument. and sorry...but SAMPLING don't make one a musician. a plagiarist, maybe, but musician...NO.
@nhroses You are right i have met her she cannot be more of the nicest person in the world that was a very speical meeting she is one hell of a woman.
wow !!!!! That was music, beautiful faces, melodies that could take sailing between the sea and bright blue sky...... too bad that i missed all this wonderful music since i'm a child from the 90' which we had plenty of garbage melodies to choose from pretty sad.....................bring back real artist PLEASE!!!!
I met her a couple years ago before a concert.unexpectedly.she signed an autograph for me and then waited as I ran back to my car and got my camera. Then posed for a couple pictures and signed a few more things for me.She couldn't have been nicer.I met ABBA also back in 1979 and they we're also very nice and I also do have their autographs but no picture...Sadly I never met Andy but I did see him in concert from the front row. Thanx for the memories
@cowhanson you my god..sso lucky,,,,id cheerish those memorries 4 ever,,i wished that i could haave got tto see tthese wonderful people in concert back in those day,,but i was only 7 years old,,it just wasnt met to be then,,,but wrong witth dreaming it......lol
@ChannelAndyGibb Yeah! It is a pitty he died. When I heard him singing alive for the first time I almost could believe it because his voice was better than in studio. Those good old days when singers were all worried only with their voices not with their bodies though ABBA girls were perfect (Beauty, unbelivable Voices, Simpathy at any time...) Oh! good old days.
@TheZBChannel ..... sorry about your luck with Olivia Newton-John that day, i never met Abba, or Andy Gibb (that poor bugger) i would have liked too. but my mother worked for Bill Harrah (Harrah's Hotel Casino, S.Lake Tahoe) i'm not sure the year, i was just a boy. and i got to meet miss "High Falutin Olivia Newton" (as me and my brothers called her, and she just had no idea what to do with kids at all. i met her again as an adult at a charity event, and she was very Humble, i love Her !
@carinomio13 If you were born in the 60's, as I was, then you grew up listening to this music on the radio and seeing them on TV and on the pop star magazine racks. Those were the days. The way things are going on in this world today, I wish I could be transported back to that era. It brings back a lot of good memories and a time where I'd like to remain.
Yep, wish you had been too. It was an awesome stage in REAL music & lyrics. Abba came over as wholesome & appealing. Yet, they could bash out a number, and the theatre would vibrate with pure sound. My 11 year old grandson idolizes them & cannot get enough of them; so they are evergreen, absolutely evergreen <"o))
269848 He speaks with a British accent because all Swedes learn "British English" in school along with German and French. There is nothing more SEXY than a beautiful woman speaking swedish! Underbart!

ONJ is stunning in this video. Been listening to her for years. This is one of the best looks of hers !!!!

TaliskerLaphroaig 6 months ago in playlist Andy Gib, Olivia Newton John and ABBA
@TaliskerLaphroaig I totally agree with you. To me, Frida was the center of ABBA, not agnetha... Frida is more Original than Agnetha. Both Girls have and incredible beauty, but FRIDA, its unic.
Thanks

reading these comments, you are all right... this is what real music is... most of the music today is bad rip off of the melodies of most 70's/80's songs.

andy, abba and olivia are all artists from my older sisters' generation, but...i prefer THEM than most of the rappers that crowded the music scene from the 90s to present. and as a note, i'd like for EVERYONE to STOP referring to rappers as MUSICIANS. cuz...they're NOT. the djs might be wizards on turntables, but they don't play one single instrument. and sorry...but SAMPLING don't make one a musician. a plagiarist, maybe, but musician...NO.

@isuriadireja91 , the music of the oldies are pretty much better than today. don't like rap music too, for me they don't create music but noise!

@carinomio13 wrong.
Abba919 6 months ago
Yep, wish you had been too. It was an awesome stage in REAL music & lyrics. Abba came over as wholesome & appealing. Yet, they could bash out a number, and the theatre would vibrate with pure sound. My 11 year old grandson idolizes them & cannot get enough of them; so they are evergreen, absolutely evergreen <"o))

@carinomio13 The world in general was a much better place back then, just much more humane.

Not cool that you criticise Olivia; your childhood judgments are far more likely to be off the mark than her.

269848 He speaks with a British accent because all Swedes learn "British English" in school along with German and French. There is nothing more SEXY than a beautiful woman speaking swedish! Underbart!
catexan 9 months ago
If you ever see Benny in an interview, you'd swear that he's British as his accent doesn't sound Swedish at all.
