  • lmao. it would've made more sense to have children say "kore wa nan desu ka" a grown man who doesn't know the words for all these things seems just silly. :P

  • if this was a conversation , it'd be people asking each other whats this? whats this? what's this? so funny

  • porutogaru-go to onaji:

    kore - este

    sore - esse

    are - aquele

    sugoi ne!!!!

  • Lol, I love how the, I guess, "narrator" speaks as if everyone's a complete idiot.

if you are indeed a complete idiot, there's just no way you're going to be able to learn Japanese lol. They should just start the intro with her going "A lot of you people are going to fail miserably".

  • @geitepung Not to be some elitist, but learning a language isn't "difficult", it's all about the method. With language you need repetition, so this is actually a very smart series. Would you want her to say something like "Sore means 'that', but whatever you already knew that let's just skip to something harder."

The hardest things IMO when learning a language are sticking with it, and making sure you don't rush yourself.

  • @OlmoLane

Lol, looking back I can't beleive I even said that stuff, no idea what triggered it.

  • 5:36 Kaiho san you dog! XD

  • I swear to god if i have to watch this damn skit one more time.... O_O

  • The easiest way to learn Japanese. Many samples and lessons, check the video out - youtube.com/watch?v=wfseANZtMNg

  • lol KAIHO SAN hahahaha Thanks for the post

  • Basically,

    kore = this

    sore = that

    are = that over there

    :)

  • It's like the Japanese version of Mr.Bean

  • she asks them useing kore wa, kore wa is this not that, right? shes not even getting her own lesson.

  • 1984,,,,,,,,,,, @@ Old but very useful~~^^

  • lol the caps r so funny! was thinking the same thing when she asked about the pencil XD

  • It's so nice to see people actually being polite over the web when discussing just about any topic now-a-days. Kudos to Guardian and Gokharol

  • @RedDragonShard i know its very suprising seeing people on youtube being able to have a discussion without insulting each other or using internet slang

  • @Gerardo122 Tell me about it. I mean, it's obvious that if you go to any video on the universe, religion, evolution, politics, etc. People are going to be name calling and threatening and all that. It's rare to see people being so nice, not to mention actually helping each other mutually learn.

  • you became friends BRAVOOOOOOO :)

  • lol I laughed at the comments of the v-bloger

  • Japanese is special. It doesn't belong to a big language family, so it's isolated and categorised as Japonic. That's what I'm proud of as a Japanese.

  • Actually its very similar to Hungarian, and a few other languages.

Japanese "unique"-ness is a nation wide ploy by the totalitarian government to force acceptance of Karōshi (over worked, to death) and other backwards/unjust aspects of their society.

  • yeeeeeeah... is it really good to be isolated?

  • The isolation makes it inconvenient for foreign people to study, and similarly it makes it difficult for Japanese people to study other languages.

But I think it's cool to have a language which is nothing like others.^^

  • I don't think it's isolated... Katakana alphabet is refered to english words, and it makes part of Japan cotidian.

You said u're are japanese, and " it's difficult for Japanese people to study other languages", how did u learn english? Even if you're born in a country where natives speak english, you speak a language that doesn't belong to you, so why "The isolation makes it inconvenient for foreign people to study"? Why can u speak english, and it's inconvenient for people to speak japanese?

  • Sorry if I caused you some misunderstandings.

Please compare the structure of English and Latin-origined languages. There are so many similarities among those languages. With Japanese, however, word order and grammar, etc, everything is totally different.

It doesn't take much time for Latin people to become fluent in English, but I've spent many years to make my English this good.

By saying inconvenient, I meant that it is difficult for people to study Japanese because of the differences.

  • Anyway, does it mean japanese don't like people who learn their language?

I was trying so hard... I really want to know...=/

  • No, not at all! Japanese people would respect you if you're studying Japanese.

All I'm saying is that studying Japanese is linguistically tough. It's not like studying English, is it? I'm just talking about linguistic differences between European languages and Japanese.

I don't think many people in the world hate those who study their languages. I never heard of anyone who hates foreign learners of Japanese!

  • Oh...ok, I agree, it's not hard for me to learn japanese neither english because I speak portuguese as mother language.

And very well done, looking the difference between english and japanese, I think it's harder for japanese to learn english, you must be very smart. Congratulations!

Thank you very much for your time,

    XXX

  • Thank you!

I'm interested in linguistics and I find it fun to compare languages. I'm glad you are a nice person. I'm surprised that Japanese isn't so hard for you. Have fun with learning Japanese. I'm happy to talk to someone learning Japanese.

    Obrigado!

  • I also compare languages!

In japanese bread is "pan", isn' it?

In portuguese it is "pão", it's actually similar. It became automatic in mind to compare languages.

Thank you for being such a nice person too, I don't know if it's rude to ask, but, how old are you? :-)

And...Ahh!! You wrote something in portuguese! *o*

Anyway, I'm the one who thank you! I'm glad to find someone so nice!

    Have a nice day,

    From Carol \(^o^)/

  • Oh, pan actually came from Portuguese. There are quite a lot of Portuguese-loanwords in Japanese because Japan had a trade with Portugal around the 15th century. We love pão-de-ló and it is called castella in Japan.

I'm 22 years old. ^^ I'm very happy to find you too! Why don't you add me as a friend and you can ask me anything? I like to teach stuff.

    Thank you for your kindness!

    Taka

  • In fact, I can tell you anything about Japan and Japanese whenever you come up with something you want to know.

  • what is onegai shimasu?

  • A humble way of saying "please".

  • arigato aploosh-san!

  • requesting something or ordering something. for example lets say I'm in a diner, if I say "coffee please" to a waitress, I would say cohi onegai shimasu. cohi = coffee.

  • or yoroshiku onegai shimasu instead of Dozo Yoroshiku!

  • It's so basic, like watching a child's program. It's bloody perfect! Speak to me like a kid, because I very much am as far as the language goes. Cute silly easy to remember tosh is always the best. This broadcast is wizard. 5 bloody stars.

  • niko yama

  • このビデオは変だ。。。

  • I've just bought a japanese course but it's poor compared to this one, this lessons rule, thanks for uploading!

  • Agreed, its the best one so far.

  • watashi wa ricky desu

  • My name menas idol! xD

  • Thank you so much for the upload! I've always wanted to take formal Japanese lessons, but my school doesn't offer it, so all I've had to learn from are books. I'm excited about this series!

  • "Literally, hajimemashite means 'I'm meeting you for the first time', and it's (another) common method of greeting people one meets for the first time." - lol! No kidding.

  • lmao

  • my name means plate in japanese -_-" lol

  • well,my name means weird xDD

  • where can you see what your name means?

  • Isn't the boys suppse to say "Ore wa" instead of "Watashi wa" ?

  • if u wanna be kool then use "Ore wa" but "watashi wa" is more polite

  • Actually, the boys usually use "boku". "Ore" is quite inpolite and male persons use it in Animes/Mangas mainly.

"Watashi" can be used by girls and boys, "atashi" only by girls.

The most common is "watashi", everybody can use it and it's polite, as well.

    Hope I could help :)

  • NAN JA SORE HA! xD thats funnier to say then sore ha nan desu ka xD

  • lol

remeber this is not a conversation between you and kaiho

    that made me laugh

  • Thx for uploading, I am you fan, really.

  • Can someone tell me how you would pronounce Jade?

  • I have followed it all the way through the first episode. But can someone please tell me how to pronounce the name "Ashley". Thank you or um, I guess, "Arigato" ^.^"

  • I would guess it to be "a-shi-ri"

  • lol, my name sounds a bit babyish. xD

    thanks!!

  • Or: a shu rei

The i is a double e. And the u is unspoken: aschree

  • This is a very useful series, I'm suprized how easily I'm picking this stuff up.

  • very usefull, im surprized by how easy it was to learn from this.

  • This is really fun, somehow. ^^ I think Japanese is the funnest language. I'm so desparate to go to uni in Japan when I'm older

  • same here im trying to go in a extange program in high school, then i plan to move to nagasaki, japan

  • LOL, for sure!

  • Stop blinking, you!! D:<

  • lol at the fake rain. XD

  • wow.

    calm down.

    how is it prejudiced?

this video is most likely for teaching americans, so what's the problem with having gaijin in it? O_o it just shows that someone who's non-japanese can speak it just as well.

  • I'm not familiar with the term gaijin...."white person"?

I don't see anything offensive about these videos.

  • basically, it means someone who's foreign to japan; i wouldn't really say white person.

  • Gaijin is foreigner. The lady speaks Japanese with an American acccent. That is just wrong.

  • yea it does sound perty wired..but what i wanna know is there diffirent accents in japanese?

  • gaiji means outsider/ someone that doesn't belong

  • There would be nothing wrong if she didn't display that accent of hers and was able to speak Japanese sounding like a native speaker.

  • Exactly what is your deal with having an accent? There's nothing "wrong" with speaking in an accent. I don't care if people speak english with a mexican, italian, french, british etc. accent.

  • lol its so true

  • it's an accent. there is nothing wrong with a an accent, unless you're a racist pig.

  • Yet, YOU are the one viewing it. Who's stupid now? LOL

  • This is an instructional/educational video! It's for non-Japanese people who want to learn the Japanese language! Who better to instruct Japanese to English speaking people than an American who understands it & teaches it?! Of course the woman would have an accent, slight or otherwise, but that doesn't diminish the purpose of the video! Get that through your stupid head!

  • west side snipers

  • ??? Lol.

  • 4:34 tobacco materialization! xD

  • Sore wa nan disu ka?

    Kore wa kasa disu! :D

  • It's desu, not disu.

  • yan is the awesome dude. he gives hope

  • I want to beat up Yan-san! >:O

  • thank you, thank you very much for this uploads!!!!

  • そのわすぶらしです!

  • This should be written これは すばらしい です。sono/kono/ano are usually followed by a noun, indicating 'that/this/that(far away) object'. This could also be written koreha subarashii bideo desu, or これは すばらしい ビデオ です. In romaji, wa(わ)should be written 'ha' to get the correct topic marker, は。

  • ARIGATO GOZAIMASU APLOOSH-SAN!

  • in ebay and amazon do they have shipping in the philippines??

and i think in paying its credit card right?

ummm.. can i use bank account in paying??

just asking^ ^ pls reply in my question if u know ^ ^

    arigato ^ ^

  • It is very unlikely that you can pay using your bank account, you should get a visa or a master card

  • tnx

  • Wah! Dai suki da Aploosh-san!

  • suge! domo arigatou gozaimasu!!!

  • kore wa = near the speaker

sore wa = near the person being talked to

  • Thank You!! Now I understand...

  • I like to think of it as kore = this is and sore = that is; sorta like in english if some one is holding something they say 'What the heck is this?' so in Japanese they'd say 'Kore wa nani desu ka?' and if they saw something across the room they'd go 'What's that??' in english so in japanese 'Sore wa nani desu ka?' get it? :)

  • Yeh Thats What I thought...

Kore is This and Sore was that...

  • and "Ano" is "that over there"

  • 'are' is 'that over there'. ano is in the same set as sono/kono.

  • Can Anyone Tell Me the difference between Kore wa and Sre wa easily I still cant understand

  • Can anyone tell me what my name would translate to in Japanese? It's Alexis, Alex for short. Japanese doesn't have an "x" sound, so I don't know how to introduce myself :S Arigato!

  • Actually I think it might sound something like Arekushisu. Hope that helps ^_^

  • Arekusisu or Arekusu :) and (if you have japanese installed on your computer) this is what it looks like in hiragana: あれくしす or あれくす :) and in kanji: あれ駆使す or あれクス :)

  • Normally the name would be written in katakana, a special character set typically used for writing foreign words. Thus, the name would be アレクシス。 Kanji characters are not normally interspersed in a person's first name as shown in あれ駆使す, as each vowel is typically representative of a noun oftentimes chosen by parents to describe their hopes for what their children will grow up to be. Though it's not common to use kanji for foreign names, foreigners sometimes do so for fun.

  • *noun/adjective

  • uuuh how do you get japanese installed on your computer?

I've beent trying to figure that out for some time now...

i'd love to have japanese on mine...

  • google it!

as it is possible because i have done it on my computer

  • Speaking slowly, I think it'd be like Arekisu, but if they talk fast it'll just sound something like Areksu.

The Japanese don't have an "x" sound? Funny, I was listening something and they said the word "sex" perfectly fine... Heh, I'm not sure you wanna ask me what exactly I was listening to, lol.

  • The borrowed word for Sex is Sekkusu. When pronounced properly it sounds almost identical to 'Sex'

  • どうも有難うございます!

    Please upload more~

    お願いします~

  • To answer Turek question,...there are certain consonants in the Japanese language that are used differently from our own.For example,in the Japanese language there is no TH sound like "THE". Nihongo is

a word in the japanese language which identifies the nation of Japan,it's language, and it's people (Nihongo). The word "Japan or Japanese" is

the english translation word for "Nihongo".Get it?

  • Be careful not to get confused though... Nihon means Japan, Go is what represents language. It's only referring to the Japanese Language when it's Nihongo... otherwise, Nihon is how you talk about just the country.

  • That's right.

  • still confused why they call there laungue Nihongo and japanese im confused about that can any 1 clear it up for me?

  • Japan and Japanese are the English equivalents for Nihon and Nihongo. It's similar to how we pronounce Mexico as Mexico and the spanish speakers will pronounce it as Mehico. Understand?

  • arigatou gozaimasu *bows*

  • どもありがとう。日本語が少し分かります。まだじょずじゃあろません。

  • *どうもありがとう。日本語が少し分かります。まだじょうずじゃありません。

  • Thank you so much for posting these lessons! Sugoi desu yo! At 9:05 Althaus-san does NOT say "Sore wa", but she's still cool.

  • she said "KORE WA" because the objesct was near to her..i mean people..thats what they are trying to teach you.if the object is near, you should say "kore wa"..like althaus said..she is right.

  • Great stuff who ever created this video needs to get honors and aploosh needs to get honors for sharing, thank you much.

  • thank you so much

this should help a whole lot.

  • arigato gozaimasu

  • Thanks Aploosh. These are a great help!
