FYI, this is not the same process as windows because in windows if i open redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and then choose Just boot (boot to tethered mode). It will just sit there and freeze at 3 bars. i help home button for 15 minutes. I believe what's different with windows version is you have to first apply the iOS 5.0.1 you downloaded from apples servers. I still haven't gotten to but into tethered mode though!! A white screen appears BUT no pineapple logo. HELP PLEASE??

@bemyguest2555 (windows here) that happned to me as well. you didn't follow the button sequence EXACTLY. it's tough I know. at this point hopefully you have a full backup of you iphone. shutdown itunes, unplug you iphone, turn it off, then plug it in, it should cause it to turn on which the symbol for connecting to itunes. open itunes and it will want you to do a full restore from apple. that's ok, once that process is all done, then it sholuld ask you to perform a restore from your backup

u don.t have to turn it off if your stuck at the apple logo

connect your iphone to itunes with the cable and itunes open

then hold the home and power button for 8 to 10 seconds

then release the power button but hold on to the home button for 15 to 20 seconds

then u hear a sound true your speakers itunes says iphone or ipod is in recovery mode

and then choose recover

I've got an iPhone 3Gs version 4.2.1 (8C148a) band 5.15.04, JBd with greenpoison, running Cydia. I've tried unlocking with ultrasnow and while the download/installation/whatever goes off without a hitch, the carrier doesn't update when I put in a new SIM. I tried updating to band 6.15.00 using the latest redsnow (0.9.6rc16) but I can't make it work - I've got the proper IPSW but the update won't take, and redsnow won't finish... and I'm confused.
