Looks to me like he just replaced the gbas screen with a touch screen, The gba is just the case

If you look closely you'll see the SP is stock, it hasn't been opened (The buttons still work after all), he's simply stuck a touch pad over the screen, connected it to an Arduino and relayed the signal to the Link Cable Port on the back for some homebrew software on a cart to process.

Nah, Theres a sensor type screen over the old one, info goes to arduino, arduino sends to gba

It seems that the Arduino reads the touchscreen and sends the data to the GBA via the link cable.

A homebrew program running through a flash cart is probably receiving that data and displaying it.

Just a guess though, looks like your "pen" is running out of ink at the end..
