I think the reason why many people don't like the official voice of Derpy is because BaldDumboRat is the one who gave us a voice that wasn't to stupid sounding, and became the voice we all pictured Derpy sounding like. The official voice is really good, being voiced by the wonderful Tabitha St. Germain, but we just have BDR's voice stuck in our heads.

Yes, Tabitha thought Derpy was a colt, and voiced her as such.

I thought it sounded quite girly, but maybe that was my subconsciousness kicking in as I had always viewed Derpy as a girl.

But now we've kicked up a little dust about, Tabitha won't make the same mistake again, should Derpy get more lines.

@PotatisSlottet the reason the cannon Derpy sounds so odd is because when Tabitha was recording she thought Derpy was a boy. She later figured it out but it's too late to change anything. She's already recorded half of season 3 so we may not see many changes.

It helps them envision what kind of voice would come out of the character. It sounds like it was just something of an oversight that Ms. St. Germain wasn't shown a picture.

I actually like your version of Derpy better, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan of your videos. My reason for liking your Derpy voice over the now canon Derpy is becasue I remember what you said a while ago in one of your older videos about how you think Derpy should sound sweet and innocent, rather than dumb, and I think your version of Derpy achives that. The canon Derpy sounds a bit retarded to me, and the clumsyness feels forced. Still, it's good to see her.

@VideoPaladin her canon voice sounds more like a speech impediment to me. She actually reminds me of one of my mother's friends who can think fine, but due to a car accident, can only talk slowly and has a really deep voice.

As for the clumsiness, I chalk that up more to town hall apparently being filled with termites. I'm sure many people have ran into/backed into a pillar or wall at some point.

Well, I don't think Derpy is ment to be disabled in any way, rather, she is ment to be silly, or "Derpy" as it were, an idea I think BaldDumboRat brought up a while ago and one I share. See, I would have much preferred take number one in this video to have been Derpy's canon voice. The Last Roundup only cements my opinion that your original depiction of Derpy is by far the superior one. Tabitha's performance made it sound too slapstick and goofy, particularly with all of the clumsy comedy thrown in. I for one would encourage you to keep Derpy exactly as you've always done. Studio B really missed out by not hiring you, and no two ways about it.

I was so amped when I heard she got a voice, only to be very much let down that they went for such an overly stupid sounding voice.
