  • I've listen to this song dozens of times. The song is so brilliant and full of life ... nothing like death to get one in touch with life.

My dilemma is that the forest is still there and doing fine and these wonderful people are gone. It makes my heart weep that we sacrifice these brave souls for corporate profits.

All I can say is ... may all being experience profound brilliant peace.

  • Beautiful version of this song.

  • i'm not sure what you mean by "prolific songs" fmg, and since you used profound later in your comment i'm not sure if you meant to use "prolific" or a different word. Help.

  • @joshua725 Let's give folkmusicgirl a break. She's obviously a big fan of great music (ie; Richard Shindell), so any malapropism might be forgiven. Thanks for posting this video of my favorite singer/songwriter/interpreter.

  • @jeffsaxton22 Well, ..., OK, but how is she going to learn about the irony of mxing prolific for profound by one who claims to, "..., have been trying to write a song or poem, ....", and there, uses the word "profound". Oh, wait, this is one of those "woman" things where they speak from their feelings w/o logic so we will be confused and they can confirm that we are inconsiderate jerks! Uh, ..., isn't it?

  • @joshua725 Ouch! If any of your comments are rooted in past hurts, I offer you the advice that someone gave me...."Let it go".

  • Seems like very few songwriters can write very prolific songs like this one is.. James of course the writer but Richard also can write extremely prolific songs and write them well....writing about factual situations. I myself have been trying to write a song or poem from a story that I have read about in the paper that had a profound effect on me. It isn't that easy to do though....so glad that writers like James Keelaghan and Richard Shindell are extremely talented and can do this well.

  • This is a true story. The song was written by James Keelaghan. As much as I love Richard, you should hear James sing it. He is an amazing Canadian singer-songwriter with a truly beautiful voice.

  • Do you have link to James Keelaghan singing this?

  • Sorry, I have never seen a video of James singing this.

  • @ArtificialBanana

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find James doing this song. Have seen him do it live - couple of weeks ago, actually - but nothing on YouTube.

  • no, he didn't screw up...his voice just dropped at "the fire crowned"

  • Is it just me or did he eff up the lyrics at 2:10?

  • Yeah, it was supposed to be "there was no way down, headed for the ridge instead."

He said "we'd have to fight that slope instead" twice.

  • *sigh*.... I love his music so much.

  • I can't believe I missed this show!!! Aaaaaaauuughh! Thanks for sharing it.

  • What a treat to find this. A great cover by a great artist. Thanks for sharing!!

  • A masterpiece! Thanks for posting!
