  • you should check out his teeth first to see if that is the problem. i dont belive in restraints what so ever my horse had the same problem and i stood in front of him and held the nit by the sides and the halter by the sides and he took it fine, then i fugured out that he had a chipped tooth and i got it pulled and he took the bit like a normal horse. so check out his teeth. also if u use leg restraints u have to KEEP using them u cant stop or they will go right back to their original problems.

  • @honeywillbemine Hi Honey. You can be assured I check not only teeth but everything involving Problem Horses. That is my Life. I look inside their Minds as well. That is why I have just confirmed that 3 out of the 4 current Horses I am working on, are unsound. Best of Luck

  • @honeywillbemine my pony was only just broken in When I got her and she did this all the time she had no problams with teeth my pony still does this please help horse probs

  • @dappledbaybeauty Place your hand lightly on the forehead and briskly rub it up and over/across the ears and into the ear behind before the horse can react badly. Repeat many times and build upon it. As you see progression, slow the hand down, equal to the progress but not less. Timing, feel and savvy. regards

  • Find it interesting that Pat Parelli seems to have gone to a restraint method on a stallion he did a demo on in UK. The horse was very bridle and head shy. His usual style wasn't working and they brought out a restraint method to continue. I can only guess he switched tactics because in right hands it does indeed work and is faster method. He had a demo to finish in a time frame. If you look up "Catwalk" and Parelli, then lots of discussion on this topic.

  • Meg. I bet Pat wished he had one of my front leg straps right then :) His problem is one of marketing and perceptions. He fashioned his entire system on NH which I have promoted extensively but as I always said, NH cannot fix such Horses and obviously Pat knows this too. If he knew how to use the right equipment, it would have taken 10 minutes. At least this brings balance to the Horse Industry. Regards

  • @MegF142857 I hate pat"s methoeds when he says "pressure" it just mean gonna whack you with this rope till you do what I say horse problames and endo spink are 100%

  • My horse isn't head shy, I can pat his face or do whatever but as soon as I go to put a bridle on he's suddenly trying to evade it. Normally I've been riding bareback with just a halter but I would like it to be much easier to bridle him. The strange thing is he responds way better with just a halter and lead rope wrapped around his neck and tied for makeshift bridle than he does with a bridle. He fights the bridle. Any ideas?

  • @Jessalyn7ate9 the horse that i ride goes in a hackamore. maybe your horse doesn't like the bit. good luck :)

  • @randomshapes1194 Not my horse and nothing to do with the Bit. This is caused by Vets ear twitching horses

  • I have had success with clicker - positive reinforcement - type training for ear shyness developed after bugs caused sore ears.

  • @MegF142857

Your Horse is ear shy then Meg. It is so because it can't handle a Brow Band or ear piece. You can go he NH advance and retreat path or my system. You can also go look at John Lyons vid on his take on it and that is NH based also. NH can not work at all or take Months. I haven't got that time so I fix them in two days. Regards

  • @horseproblems Huh? No, my horse is not ear shy. Maybe you responded under wrong person's comment.

I can put my fingers way down into my horse's ear with Dermafas cream and rub SWAT all over them inside and outside. We had sore ears develop before from bugs, which made him temporarily ear shy. We have no problems putting on head gear.

I used clicker training methods for most part and still what I'm using.

  • My horse has just all of the sudden been ear shy! What could it be from? Bugs? Is there such thing of a ear infection? Or could she be in heat?

  • my horse is or actually was ear shy but i have another question u know how in the pasture horses scratch each others back well my horse when i scratch his back he scratches mine and he doesn't have his ear laid back so he's not attacking soo idk if i should let him or not. would that get him into a biting habbit????????

  • i think thats just being friendly with you, letting you know that he actually respects you.

  • aruraeclipse thanks for posting your idea!

as it worked i think i'll try it with my mare who dosent mind being brideld, stroked or rubeed on her head but hates me touching her ears.i'd love to try the things show in theese videos, there geat but i just dont have the facilities :(

  • Glad to see he talks and rewards the horse!! :D:D its good for the horses motivation!

  • Thank you VERY much for posting this! My thoroughbred mare is ear shy, but she will let me bridle her. Whenever I go to brush some dirt off her ears, she either throughs her head up in the air or shies away as this horse demonstrated. Thank you again!

  • he he! my black mare was head shy, and everyday when I went out in the barn, I just slowly rubbed, never patted or used any type of patting motion that could remind her of any kind of hitting, in case she been through that, now she doesn't mind her head touched at all, so just a little bit of patients, maybe even a treat, you can get your horse not minding the ears touched! Different method than shown here, but still works.

  • That is true Aruraeclipse but there are Horses that no amount of that will fix them. They can take Months or more and then you have the problem that the Professional may have, providing miracles in 2 weeks with a Horse you can't bridle. The demands of Owners and the Economic pressures come into play as well. Not good but reality. However, I have never failed to fix one of these inside two to 3 days so the system works. Often, Veterinary attention is imperative .........

  • It really comes down to I think is just knowing how to read the horse, that's how miracle professionals do it, sometimes there is two ways though, forcing a horse to do it, and allowing the horse to do it, and depends on the time that the owner has and wants to go about it, I have had 2 ear shy horses so far, and the same method that I used, worked within a month. I keep refining though to ensure its permanent! You have a very good strong point though, sometimes it does lead to medical reasons:)

  • I enjoyed watching this, as my daughters horse Mozart a Arab/Lipizzaner hates his ears being touch, which makes it difficult to clip is ears when showing. Not a problem to bridle, touch around the head except his ears and has always been like that since burying him 7yrs ago. Will be trying this.

  • omg great job it took me a whole year trying to get the bridle on my horse and now i can i try the whole thing u did but not the same way and he still lifted his head soo high

  • :) well done...yet again. Very much informative again :)

i doubt mr Hp would do something like not check teeth first......

You are still my favourite horseman!

  • horse arrived, teeth not done, sent horse home to be done, horse now fixed, relaxed, happy and eating properly at last. Thanks

  • awesome!!

  • Horses don't lie,Your missing what the horse is saying.I don't want that bit.what your missing is,the bit in my mouth hurts. You said not one word about checking his teeth first. You tied him up and head down and made him.You would avoid pain,You made it so he had no choice. What are you trying to tell the horse

  • Dimples, I am a Professional. I send horses home that haven't had their teeth done first. regards

  • As a'pro'and trying to teach people you don't say anything about the main reason for mouth problems and that is check the teeth.A bit in a bad mouth can lead to bucking and rearing, throwing the head.Someone that does what you do and don't check there teeth which are bad have even more problems, right? Also why not show the horse from the start, your videos are always after you worked with them for three days before you video them.I'd like to see a video from the start, when you first work with them.

  • Brilliant brilliant man we need more teachers like you. Keep up the great work and keep on making more of your fabulous dvd's.

    Cheers

    Julie Maree

  • Embarrass me.............blush

  • Has anyone told you... You are fantastic.

  • I've found another cure for head shy ponies - please refer to video. A good fast game of soccer can cure most ills. The little 4 y o grey in the video came to us with many issues: head shy, can't catch, rope phobia, cold backed and bolted when ridden. When he went home 3 weeks later he was totally managable by 10 year old novice.

  • Wait til next week. Taking a bridle off is basically impossible!!!!!!!

  • hehe, these horses have the timing down to the a split second, as soon as they feel the bit starting to lower in their mouth, it's flip out time...have fun

  • I can clearly hear the bit banging on his teeth taking it out.why not a rubber bit or a rubber covered bit on this horse.reading the comments nobody asks about checking his teeth first, why

  • Rubber Bits are old fashioned from about 40 years ago and cause resistant horses. As do big fat Egg Butt Bits of days gone by. The World moves on. regards

  • Relax Dimples. mY website (ranked 4th in the World Horse Training is littered with warnings about such things but thanks for being so concerned about the subject which a lot of people unfortunately are not. Regards

  • Another good bita advice... nice arab
