Besides Stormy Monday, what else uses this by TBone? And what song uses that trick where you slide a 6th chord and it "magically" becomes a 9th chord? If you can play it you'll know what I mean. It's a slowish comp. Cheers.
I'll do that for you in a couple days Home Skillet, I kinda goota go at the moment, but if you wanna try on your own listen to him G9, F-Flat-9 look them up on Google or something - Remember with Tabs your bottom String on the Guitar is the Top String on the Tabs
Yeah, he's assuming people know those chords. He is using a Bminor7b5 as a G9 chord with no root and playing C9and D9 with their 5th in the bass. G and A respectivly. I could help you more if you need. Dan
he gives chord names, you should learn how to build chords from there names. There are a few sites that can give you a lesson on that and i think even a few videos on youtube. :)
thats true, i just watched him the first timem after i listend to old bluesmen for years and i must say hes absolutely amazing. Some parts of his guitar play remembers me at jimi hendrix, thats almost unique among all bluesmen
Eh? You don't listen to much blues if SRV is the most passionate and emotional AND the most technical. There are TONS of blues players out there that match if not better SRV. Dont get me wrong I LOVE SRV and hes one of my favs, but the reality is, hes not the only one.
Hi great lesson thanks a lot. This is exactly the kind of stuff i wanted to learn. I didnt know you were allowed to play chords from the chromatic scale. I usually try adding chords from the minor harmonic scale. Fsharp9 is from the minor harmonic scale. Does Aflat9 come from a scale? How come we're allowed to use it? Thx! i'm a beginner...
are you serious... ? Umm that's called a cello. hahah. It's not a guitar at all. Or you're talking about an upright bass, but you stand up to play that. google image those things and maybe that's what you meant.
albert, then freddie, even carole king. don't forget johnny winter, winwood, neil, tommy emmanuel, jb lenoir, mick taylor, peter green, eric j, and bloomfield. lightnin hopkins too: all fine players. thanx for the review lesson. i used to play that way but sort of changed style over the years. it's all good
Let's not leaves SRV out. And most of these guys learned a trick or two from each other. I suggest to follow their lead - if you see somebody playing something cool, ask then how they do it. You might be surprised at how many will tell you.
Nice progression. Who's the best ever? B.B., John Hooker, Muddy, Albert King, Freddy King, Howln Wolf, EC, , Buddy Guy, Knofler, Jimmy Page, Jimmy Vaughn, Tiny Tim, Bo Diddley, Taj Mahal, Chuck Berry, Guitar Junior Johnson, Robert Cray, Elmore James, Clarence Gatemouth Brown? They can all put the hurt on you with an ax. Look 'em up!
This was one Badass lesson my man. I can dig it. I got a little confused on what was going on a spot. anyone know what exactly is going on at 1:11 and 1:53? I get the chords then there is a quick chord or blip, no clue. Thanks and rockin lesson, Im already knocking this out.
Both Ronnie Earl and Duke Robillard are some of today's greatest experts on T-Bone's style, but I've always found very nice and cool the old "Stormy Monday" version by The Allman Brothers Band at the Fillmore too.
A prime reason why things like youtube have totally changed the world, it would take ages to learn something like this just by sitting in your bedroom listening to ol' 78's and trying to work it out. This is fab thanks
I enjoy seeing an expert break down things that are complex for me so I can get a grasp of it. I could try to listen to the blues for a month on my own, or I could watch this video for almost 3 min and I come out the winner. By the way, it sounds like Cialis and LeVitra commercials have ripped off T-Bone! I half-expected to see some old couple come in and tell me about erectile dysfunction...
This is a hip little lesson. There was a twofer on UA (which is now part of Capitol Records, iirc) about 30 years ago I got with T-Bone with a big band backing him and it will blow your head off. Talk about taste and flair! He could really spin out some mean ass lines. So check him out, everybody! He taught Chuck Berry everything he knew.
God Damn!!!That knocked me flat out of my chair!!!That jumped right down my throat and into my soul!!!That was God-like vibed, those combinations of notes, that make up the personality of that song, sound like Sonic VooDoo!!!Whoa!!!

He's moving shapes. G9 x 2 3 2 3 x
And C9: 3 x 2 3 3 x
Note that neither have the root, but we still hear them as G9, C9. Search for Keith Wyatt's series.
