  • cool...this demo is much easier...

  • The man that Chuck Berry got his licks from!

  • Thank you for sharing the guitar lesson videos

    God Bless

    John Guitar Solo

  • He would be a good stand in for Robert Duvall.

  • @dreamtimej like the consigliere of guitar

  • Brilliant

  • Awesome lesson! Thanks!

  • Thanks for letting this vid persist...still refer back to it every few months.

  • I once knew T-Bone Walker's nephew.

  • is that a vintage icon or a fender strat?

  • Nice demo, showing the essence of T-bone's style. Thanks!!

  • Great, T-Bone rules!!! Thanks a lot! Very cool lesson! Plz keep it up!

  • T up from Badenia

  • Cool!

  • They call it stormy Monday but Tuesday is just as bad. Sweet

  • Super stuff. I love this whole series of videos. Great instructor. Very cool cat for sure!

T-Bone is one of my true Guitar Influences. T-Bone is the whole package; writer, player, singer, arranger, band leader .... A rare talent!

  • He enjoyed playing that one. I enjoyed hearing it as well.

  • @qtip1064

    Yup, it shows.

    Love his languid approach too.

  • very helpful

  • makes it look easy... Kewl!

  • wow... that was B E A UUUTIFUL!!!

thanks so much for posting this =D

  • Him humming to his playing reminded me of Thelonius Monk. Haha

  • too cool!

  • Thanks for the lesson, much appreciated. More please!

  • nice, thanks

  • Besides Stormy Monday, what else uses this by TBone? And what song uses that trick where you slide a 6th chord and it "magically" becomes a 9th chord? If you can play it you'll know what I mean. It's a slowish comp. Cheers.

  • Can someone give me a rough tab of what he's doing I can't hardly tell since he's just expecting us to look at his fingers and know.

  • He's moving shapes. G9 x 2 3 2 3 x

    And C9: 3 x 2 3 3 x

Note that neither have the root, but we still hear them as G9, C9. Search for Keith Wyatt's series.

  • I'll do that for you in a couple days Home Skillet, I kinda goota go at the moment, but if you wanna try on your own listen to him G9, F-Flat-9 look them up on Google or something - Remember with Tabs your bottom String on the Guitar is the Top String on the Tabs

  • Cornmancer,

Yeah, he's assuming people know those chords. He is using a Bminor7b5 as a G9 chord with no root and playing C9and D9 with their 5th in the bass. G and A respectivly. I could help you more if you need. Dan

  • he gives chord names, you should learn how to build chords from there names. There are a few sites that can give you a lesson on that and i think even a few videos on youtube. :)

  • watch his lesson about sliding 9th technique, he explaines the chord voicings there

  • nice.

  • t-bone choice cuts?

  • That along with some Bud Shank sounds fantastic! Dan

  • T-bone walker was one of the best blues musicians but he doesn't get the recognition he deserves

  • thats true, i just watched him the first timem after i listend to old bluesmen for years and i must say hes absolutely amazing. Some parts of his guitar play remembers me at jimi hendrix, thats almost unique among all bluesmen

  • he made the guitar solo first real guitarist

  • does anyone else hear him humming while playing

  • Very cool!

  • perfect

  • You take to much, just stick with playing

  • wonderful job! thanks. T BONE is a master we should all learn.

  • i dont know, who is t bone

but when i hear this, i would said he is/was a very great bluesmusician

  • He wrote Stormy Monday blues and many other songs. T bone died in 1975

  • t- bone walker, baby. One of the all time greats.

  • that sounds more like jazz

  • Great stuff. Could you please tell me someone where I could purchase this same backing track CD and other swing blues/jazz type backings?

  • Eh? You don't listen to much blues if SRV is the most passionate and emotional AND the most technical. There are TONS of blues players out there that match if not better SRV. Dont get me wrong I LOVE SRV and hes one of my favs, but the reality is, hes not the only one.

  • i am willing to buy a guiatr plzz help which is better a electric or a normal one and wat are their costs?

  • SMOOOTH !

  • Simply not true.

  • I like your sound, and it sounds excellent, except I keep expecting for you to break out with the licks, do you have a vid with some tbone licks?

  • This guy is great.wish i was in L.A.

  • Hi great lesson thanks a lot. This is exactly the kind of stuff i wanted to learn. I didnt know you were allowed to play chords from the chromatic scale. I usually try adding chords from the minor harmonic scale. Fsharp9 is from the minor harmonic scale. Does Aflat9 come from a scale? How come we're allowed to use it? Thx! i'm a beginner...

  • For me the only wa y to learn is actually watching and hearing, just like he does, I dont like the books.

  • can someone please tell me what type of guitar this is i can only describe it:

Its very big, usually standing on its base while the player sits down and it makes a very deep noise.

i would be very grateful for any replies. Thanks.

  • what a baritone guitar? Or the guitar in the video? That's just a strat.

  • bass

  • A bass? like a orchestra bass? that fits the description

  • Are you sure you're talking about a guitar?? Sounds to me like you're talking about a contrabass.

  • a bass, or a cello

  • are you serious... ? Umm that's called a cello. hahah. It's not a guitar at all. Or you're talking about an upright bass, but you stand up to play that. google image those things and maybe that's what you meant.

  • Cello?

  • an upright bass?

  • Stylezt220 sounds more like a Cello you are describing

  • Does this instrument look like a large violin? If it does then you are descrbing an upright bass, which the modern bass guitar is descended from.

  • That might just be a double bass your talking about.

  • are you refering to a Upright Bass?

  • stand up bass,dude

  • Stand up bass usually has the person standing up with it, if they are sitting down it is more likely a cello.

  • upright

  • sounds like a acoustic bass usually used in deep blues / jazz style looks a hell of a lot like a cello

  • I think it´s a fender stratocaster =p

  • This is about T-Bone Walker not SRV

  • pretty good !! i like blues !!nice!!

  • this guy looks like funkhouser from curb your enthusiasm....great lesson.

  • your a good teacher

  • but tuesday's just as bad....

  • Just what I thought -- Allman's version of Stormy Monday.

  • T-bone wrote it and performed it many years before the Allmans.......

  • The Allman Bros. version was based on the Bobby Bland version.

  • That is sooo smooth and mellow!

  • The T-Bone minor chord progression going up the neck before the turnaround is missing! What up?

  • albert, then freddie, even carole king. don't forget johnny winter, winwood, neil, tommy emmanuel, jb lenoir, mick taylor, peter green, eric j, and bloomfield. lightnin hopkins too: all fine players. thanx for the review lesson. i used to play that way but sort of changed style over the years. it's all good

  • albert king also used this a lot.. reminds me of Laundromat Blues

  • Chuck Berry used it a lot.

  • srv is my fav then bb then hooker

boom boom boom is my fav song by hooker

  • BB all day baby!

  • Let's not leaves SRV out. And most of these guys learned a trick or two from each other. I suggest to follow their lead - if you see somebody playing something cool, ask then how they do it. You might be surprised at how many will tell you.

  • Nice progression. Who's the best ever? B.B., John Hooker, Muddy, Albert King, Freddy King, Howln Wolf, EC, , Buddy Guy, Knofler, Jimmy Page, Jimmy Vaughn, Tiny Tim, Bo Diddley, Taj Mahal, Chuck Berry, Guitar Junior Johnson, Robert Cray, Elmore James, Clarence Gatemouth Brown? They can all put the hurt on you with an ax. Look 'em up!

  • just be sure to type Mark Knopfler, not Knofler when looking him up :)

Great list btw, hadn't heard of Clarence Gatemouth Brown before, but I'll look him up

  • I gave you a thumbs up for simply doing what others should do, look it up, don't guess..... look it up!!! good work!

  • Dude BB king all the way

  • hell yea man!!! wahhhooooo

  • nice

  • T BONE IS HOTTTT

  • i think b.b king is the best blues player ever!!!

  • agree

  • wow,one of the first blues men to use 9th chords.

  • anybody have tab on the second chord he plays?

    thanks.

  • if only i were able to play that effing 9th chord

  • Beautiful, precious concept...!!!

  • amazing awesome sound and great teacher =)

  • uff...yeah man.

  • thanks

  • no problem.

  • Its a nice lesson mabey i missed the video were you show the chord shapes that u use that trick with

  • i love only blues music and yngwie malmsteen.

  • hahaha i thought you were being facetious, that is, making fun of people with bad taste.

  • thats too bad that you are so closed minded.

  • great video , this would take me years to master and perfect .

  • wicked man, cheers for the tips really helped me out (:

  • This was one Badass lesson my man. I can dig it. I got a little confused on what was going on a spot. anyone know what exactly is going on at 1:11 and 1:53? I get the chords then there is a quick chord or blip, no clue. Thanks and rockin lesson, Im already knocking this out.

  • it looks like he hit the E or B string on an up stroke.

  • jup, he adds a high G there. 3rd fret, E string.

  • Both Ronnie Earl and Duke Robillard are some of today's greatest experts on T-Bone's style, but I've always found very nice and cool the old "Stormy Monday" version by The Allman Brothers Band at the Fillmore too.

  • r they

  • i been trying to figure that out for a week. i love the information age.

  • Amazing man :)) he know almost all techies

  • nice guitar playing hey everyone check out my page and comment please

  • great teacher.

  • its berklee ;)

  • man that first chord isnt a G9---is a Bmb5...dont understand

  • right, to be more accurate minor seventh flat five, also called half diminished.

Maybe G9 is the chord over wich the one showed is played?

  • check your inversions...sure you're right callin' it like a bmb5 but it's out there as a g9 also

  • Impeccable... I love it

  • thats amazing man.

  • This dude just oozes cool.

    Nice guitar playing.

  • T-Bone Walker is cool! This guy is trying to be as cool!

  • thanks for the lesson. you've got a beautiful guitar, too; worn to perfection.

  • That's pretty funny lucos911...Was trying to figure out why he looked familiar.Didn't know R.D. could jam like that!!!!! lol

  • thank you sir

  • sweet! intro to Stormy Monday by Allman Bros

  • Uh no...intro to stormy monday by T Bone Walker.

  • This is what I have been looking for! Great demonstration...simple, obvious, sounds great

  • That's what I'm talking about....show me how easy it is!

  • great nice mister!

  • Gee man I like this, you should have called your vid :SOUND LIKE TBONE WALKER WHILE LOOKING LIKE ROBERT DUVALL AFTER A DIET

  • lol

  • Great description. He really looks likes duvall. Love watching him play.

  • very delicious strat...

  • que domingo tan tormentoso! gracias

  • i can dig it man ,thats really chillin!lol learn me some moe!:)

  • aw man what a beautiful strat

  • Awesome lesson on how to perform this technique. Great post!

  • Thanks Mr duvall

  • This is a great thing to put up; just wonderful

  • nice sound

  • I have added some stuff as well

  • Blues for life

  • I can't thank you enough for posting this great video

  • GREAT!!!!!

    Thanks

  • Hello Mr. Williams!

I tried to play the blues scale under your progress chords but I dont like the sound...

Blues scale is too much agressive here.. may be I have to add some special note? Can u explain which scale will be great in this blues chords?

  • wonderful. Thanks.

  • A prime reason why things like youtube have totally changed the world, it would take ages to learn something like this just by sitting in your bedroom listening to ol' 78's and trying to work it out. This is fab thanks

  • it's true, well.... you have to do both really.

  • SWEET!

  • I enjoy seeing an expert break down things that are complex for me so I can get a grasp of it. I could try to listen to the blues for a month on my own, or I could watch this video for almost 3 min and I come out the winner. By the way, it sounds like Cialis and LeVitra commercials have ripped off T-Bone! I half-expected to see some old couple come in and tell me about erectile dysfunction...

  • very funny comment, thks for the laugh, sooooo true!

  • This is a hip little lesson. There was a twofer on UA (which is now part of Capitol Records, iirc) about 30 years ago I got with T-Bone with a big band backing him and it will blow your head off. Talk about taste and flair! He could really spin out some mean ass lines. So check him out, everybody! He taught Chuck Berry everything he knew.

  • Dude, you rock

  • I can't wait to try that out! where the heck is my guitar! It's in the same place it always is. No more than 10 feet from me. Great video!

  • great

  • That was very informative, thanks.

  • this is great,i love it when i see videos that really do know how to teach .this one did it for me.....thanx guy!

  • A good T-Bone Walker guitar solo is ALMOST as good as sex, I swear!

  • Simply badass...

  • Tasty, tasty .. the right way to give beginners

the sense of rhythm, progression and MOOD ( not mode

for god's sake). Makes us sick and tired to see so called teachers pushing new players to be scale robots.

    Thank you...

  • amen brother

  • now I know where Duane got it from for Stormy Monday

  • God Damn!!!That knocked me flat out of my chair!!!That jumped right down my throat and into my soul!!!That was God-like vibed, those combinations of notes, that make up the personality of that song, sound like Sonic VooDoo!!!Whoa!!!

  • Well...there's nuthin' a T-Bone Shuffle can't cure...!

  • I just signed up to youtube (after viewing the free music lessons for the past few months) just so I could ask you-how can I get video/dvd lessons from you? I love your teaching style and approach and hope you offer some kind of lessons via dvd. Hope to hear from you. Thanks

  • try berkleemusic on google

  • please more instruction videos they help........I love exotic chords.......thanxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • *decaff* :) cool vid though...

  • Brilliant... Thats the kind of rhythm that helped make the blues right there. Nice playing, of course from Berklee, haha

  • You know DK - everything we ever do is based on, or an extension of something that came before. If you want to be reductionist enough you can condense most of human thought to the argument between Socrates and Plato. The old blues masters learned from somebody else too. Clapton acknowledges his debts many times over. He's by no means all I want to listen to, but I do appreciate his efforts.

  • I love T-bone. I have a good T-bone Walker video. You will like it! Check out my "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and "Pride and Joy" too.

  • that guitar looks sooooooooo yummmmyy to play!

  • berkleemusic that was nice, nice n relaxed,i like it but i am very unfamiliar with those chords, thanks though.

  • But what are the names of the notes?
