It's one thing to respect and admire your own father, but it's another thing to drag dead horses and just attempt to paint the same picture your father did, but only with about 10% of the passion or skill.

It's not always just about the melody. You have to take into account the texture and dynamic as well. While he may not be emulating his father's style, Sean definitely exhibits a great deal of mastery, especially for his age. It's also important to bear in mind the difference of styles. A great song in it's own right.
Rather self indulgent and lacks a good melody that he should have learned from listening to his father's music. I guess it's not genetic. Melody is the most important thing - his dad and co writer McCartney always said so. Something that too many young musicians miss along the way.

Sean is young? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he born in 1975? That would make him 33-34 yrs of age...His dad had already broken up with the Beatles and gone through half his solo years by that point. Hell, even Julian was in his early/mid 20s when he broke through in the 1980s.

The woman holding him at 3:30 is actress Jordana Brewster from films the Fast and the Furious, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and the Faculty. I think her character in this video is supposed to be like Yoko Ono. Yoko reacted the same way when John Lennon was shot.

!/2 Yoko is correct. This guy could be good if he will quit writing songs that make him sound like he is whining. all his songs have the same whining undertone. Also did you ever notice how he is always placing himself in rolls that are our of him character? He is hardly the ladies man he is always trying to be and he would get his ass kicked if he were to really duel it out with someone. He needs to try and stay in his character range. Too much Yoko influence in his work.

I hate when people say he's trying to sound like his dad, Sean likes the Beatles, thats not a surprise, were he ANYONE else's son, that would be something to be proud of, liking the beatles, sounding like them, but because his name is Sean LENNON he gets a ton of shit for being influenced by one of the greatest bands ever. He doesnt listen to them just because it was his dad's band, if you'd ever heard him talk about it, he views the Beatles just like he views the beach boys, just a great band.

Sean's voice is annoying, and nothing like his dad's but I like his songwriting better than Julian's (who, incidentially, sounds eerily like his dad). Maybe Sean should write songs for Julian to sing, and combined they'd be a worthy inheritant of the name...

Sean Lennon is more of a product of Yoko Ono than John Lennon. Not his fault, as he was too young when John died to have a more personal influence.
Between the brothers, it is Julian who has the talent! Sean struggles with his voice too much while Julian gives it naturally.

Sean is young? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he born in 1975? That would make him 33-34 yrs of age...His dad had already broken up with the Beatles and gone through half his solo years by that point. Hell, even Julian was in his early/mid 20s when he broke through in the 1980s.
I just think that because John died when Sean was about 5 years old, he was too young to be personally influenced music-wise. So who does he go to for influence and memories?..Yoko. Not much of an alternative.
