As long as stuff like the xpander and even the radias are around, i can see why so many of these are getting offloaded onto ebay, both new AND s/hand. They soudn a bit tame compared to the originals, and my own analog synth collection does piss on them a bit. Theyre quite limiting in a way, cause although you have all those mod routings, etc, theyre not so easily accessible AND theres no true polymod a la old SCI products. They need to be about £1000 , not £1500 , which is too much.

what is it that makes some analogs sound better than others? is it the metal the circuits are made out of or something?

its all about slight distortions.

but most important analog has no 'resolution'.

this is verry important if you deform the sound hrough an effect

also digital has alliasing,which sounds bad

i know analog sounds better than digital but im trying to figure out what makes one analog sound better than another analog.. looks like electricity would always sound like electricity

Analog doesnt sound 'better' it is possible to digitally recreate the same sound of an anolog synth, its just a matter of having a powerfull enough computer.

Dont believe the myth that its not possible.

As for your question about why they sound differen:

Well they dont all use the components. And every component has its characteristics that it adds to the sound.

Like the shape and woodtype of a guitar changes how it sounds.

yea i definitely think the nord series sounds enough like analog for me personally..

about the components, do you think it's like the kind of metal used or just their function & how you can patch them?

both..

The kind of materials used influences clarrity and warmth of the sound (that kind of stuff)

And functionallity is more for modifying and manipulating the sounds in a larger overall way.

I hope the knobs isnt as cheap as those on the Poly evolver. I've tested Poly evolver and the knobs felt loose and cheesy. The knobs looks better on the prophet though. Can't wait till I get my Prophet 08 ^^

I don't have a Prophet 5, but to me, my P08 is almost perfect. I think DSI hit the sweet spot, HARD!

That's because most demos consist of some hack twisting knobs, making sound effects and not really playing the thing.
