Shit, the tarzan course looks really hard. I really want to be in the royale marines, and am determined to get in, but it looks really hard, ill just have to give it my best shot :(
@mebecallum if you really want to get in just get fit.
believe me if you do around half an hour to an hour of excersize per day 5 times a day (two days to rest your muscles) for 12 months you will be ready, go for jogs, do sit-ups, press-ups, squats, seat dips, go to the gym and be motivated and be positive.
Currently serving in the parachute regiment, i have seen royals train and apart from being physically fit you need to be mentally fit.
When I'm 18 I'm joining the royal marines and hopefully one day I'll get picked for SBS selection :) its my dream to be one of those divers who lurk from the water, aiming down a C8 assault rifle, can't fucking wait :)

@banoffee2001 hah, i think you got that a bit mixed up. Paratroopers are to the SAS what the Royal Marine's are to the SBS. Each one generally comprises the majority of the the candidates who go in for selection for the different arms of the special forces, and as for your "team players" remark, how can you say that the paratroopers are better team players when every single military branch, be it army, air force or navy is completely based around teamwork?

couple of months ago a commando became famous he was leaderof a sf group called viper wich existed of dutch kct and sas after 6 heavy contacs the guy (marco kroon) recieved the highest military medal u can get in holland and the whole story of sf group viper became famous
To clear up some shit. which is really fucking me off. SAS are infact the best special forces unit on the planet with out a dought. It's a known fact by any one with a clue. They have the toughest training in the world. And they only train with live rounds something most over forces don't..
actually the sas pretty much cover everything and the sas pretty much wrote the book when it comes to most of the techniques used by secial forces around the world
yeah, youve got a point as the SAS have boat troops as well, I just thought the SBS would be more suited to amphibious warfare due to them being Navy and mainly made up of RM`s
The SBS doesn't exist any more its just the SAS now. but as long as you've served a min of 4 years in either the Army RAF or navy you can try for the SAS cause they want the range of skills from all the forces for obvious reasons the Royal marine commandos have their obvious uses, Royal engineers etc have useful skills as long as your tough enough you can get in but you realy have to be the best. both mentally and physically
The SBS does still exist. The recent hostage rescue in Afghanistan to rescue a journalist where a SFSG member was killed was conducted by the SBS. The SBS have slightly longer training than the SAS. SBS in my opinion are better. But there is probably some kind of unknown unit which no one knows or hears about which will be better than both.
aye lol you told me that after i realised checked up on it!! but its moved from the army to the navy as a (mainly) marine force specialised for tasks as retaking ships etc but it still has a special forces support regiments in the army based in 1 para and other such regiments. I thought they had changed the name of the regiment.
Not identical similar you don't see the royal marine comandos learning how to do a halo jump. The sas course is pretty much the same as the sbs course and the do a lot more in training and selection than other special for groups in the british armed forces.
Ok let me clear things up. The royal marines have got the hardest BASIC training in the world but special forces training is alot harder and anyone who thinks otherwise is lying. The hardest of all millitary training in the world is Royal marines mountain leader training which is only harder than sas/sbs training because it is slightly longer. Second to RM mountian leader training is swimmer canoeist (SBS) training which you have to pass sas training before you become 1.
because of this the british have the top 3 hardest training in the world and the hardest basic training in the world but they share this with Australia (i know shock horror) but that is because their military is similar to ours they have the same SF. The US have a very good army and SF unit, their training isn't as good but their kit and man power is immense so it doesn't need to be.
Regarding what country come second to UK/Aus i would say is probably the Dutch but thats my opinion.

*cough* the SAS are more highly trained, drilled, fitter and varied in their skills than the SEALS and PROUD ex SEALS have confirmed they are second to the SAS and for that matter third to the SBS.
the royal marines are more respected for the longevity and diversity of their training which evidently results in highly trained and determined gentlemen. As opposed to other regiments...

I didnt say that weren`t elite we train with them, they were in okinawa and we fast roped with them, and they are good, but the United States just does it better.
I think that the 32 week training to become a royal marine commando compared with the 13 week training to become a U.S Marine says all that needs to be said, its natural that you would go for your owns countries armed service as being the best, however I think you will find the the Royal Marines are a cut above any U.S Marine sorry
lol, marines go through 13 weeks to become a marine then 4 weeks of combat training then another 8 months of training in their mos (mos depending) then countless days of training when you reach the fleet. Cannot forget about MOUT training just about bimonthly
I hate to tell you this mate as I like Americans and the U.S, but a U.S marines is just a very good bunch of regular soldiers not an elite fighting regiment Eg 2001 Tora Bora, U.S Rangers sent up into mountains to seek out Tailiban.... failed as they coundn't fight/work at the altitude. Royal Marine Commandos had to be sent up instead to do the job. ( this was done with some special forces from the U.K and U.S the S.B.S and Delta ) Royal Marines are more in line with your Navy Seals
you do not know about marines, our recon is the best of our special forces. Army rangers dont even rate, they are not even linked to the marines. The navy seals are no better than the Marines, they just are trained to operate in smaller groups. In terms of front line infantry there is no finer fighting force in the world. Who took out the Iraqi Gaurd units? US marines, who liberate Falujah? Marines. We are the best, and we know it.
Your army is bigger, hence its efficientcy as a whole. Soldier for soldier, combat quality of US to British soldier is favoured on british.
England deploy smaller units, and have higher combat efficientcy, oh and lets not forget that when USMC move on from one city to another, Britain has to move in with the rest of the european forces to clean up your dirty work

couple of months ago a commando became famous he was leaderof a sf group called viper wich existed of dutch kct and sas after 6 heavy contacs the guy (marco kroon) recieved the highest military medal u can get in holland and the whole story of sf group viper became famous

The SBS doesn't exist any more its just the SAS now. but as long as you've served a min of 4 years in either the Army RAF or navy you can try for the SAS cause they want the range of skills from all the forces for obvious reasons the Royal marine commandos have their obvious uses, Royal engineers etc have useful skills as long as your tough enough you can get in but you realy have to be the best. both mentally and physically

The SBS does still exist. The recent hostage rescue in Afghanistan to rescue a journalist where a SFSG member was killed was conducted by the SBS. The SBS have slightly longer training than the SAS. SBS in my opinion are better. But there is probably some kind of unknown unit which no one knows or hears about which will be better than both.

aye lol you told me that after i realised checked up on it!! but its moved from the army to the navy as a (mainly) marine force specialised for tasks as retaking ships etc but it still has a special forces support regiments in the army based in 1 para and other such regiments. I thought they had changed the name of the regiment.

Not identical similar you don't see the royal marine comandos learning how to do a halo jump. The sas course is pretty much the same as the sbs course and the do a lot more in training and selection than other special for groups in the british armed forces.

Ok let me clear things up. The royal marines have got the hardest BASIC training in the world but special forces training is alot harder and anyone who thinks otherwise is lying. The hardest of all millitary training in the world is Royal marines mountain leader training which is only harder than sas/sbs training because it is slightly longer. Second to RM mountian leader training is swimmer canoeist (SBS) training which you have to pass sas training before you become 1.

because of this the british have the top 3 hardest training in the world and the hardest basic training in the world but they share this with Australia (i know shock horror) but that is because their military is similar to ours they have the same SF. The US have a very good army and SF unit, their training isn't as good but their kit and man power is immense so it doesn't need to be.
Regarding what country come second to UK/Aus i would say is probably the Dutch but thats my opinion.

no they lost because 1. the generals weren't prepared to fight outside the box, the VC didn't play by the rule but the yanks did. 2. They could've stood a better chance had they aided the french when they asked for help instead they said no and ended up in nam anyway. besides the viets aren't smarter than the yanks it's just you fight a larger force on their own turf you have to fight harder and outside the box (like i said =D). The yanks aren't necesserily stupid they are just reckless.

I think that the 32 week training to become a royal marine commando compared with the 13 week training to become a U.S Marine says all that needs to be said, its natural that you would go for your owns countries armed service as being the best, however I think you will find the the Royal Marines are a cut above any U.S Marine sorry

I hate to tell you this mate as I like Americans and the U.S, but a U.S marines is just a very good bunch of regular soldiers not an elite fighting regiment Eg 2001 Tora Bora, U.S Rangers sent up into mountains to seek out Tailiban.... failed as they coundn't fight/work at the altitude. Royal Marine Commandos had to be sent up instead to do the job. ( this was done with some special forces from the U.K and U.S the S.B.S and Delta ) Royal Marines are more in line with your Navy Seals

you do not know about marines, our recon is the best of our special forces. Army rangers dont even rate, they are not even linked to the marines. The navy seals are no better than the Marines, they just are trained to operate in smaller groups. In terms of front line infantry there is no finer fighting force in the world. Who took out the Iraqi Gaurd units? US marines, who liberate Falujah? Marines. We are the best, and we know it.

Your army is bigger, hence its efficientcy as a whole. Soldier for soldier, combat quality of US to British soldier is favoured on british.
England deploy smaller units, and have higher combat efficientcy, oh and lets not forget that when USMC move on from one city to another, Britain has to move in with the rest of the european forces to clean up your dirty work

lol, talk like you`ve ever done military training, you ever hear of the crucible in USMC boot camp 3 days where u hump over 30 miles and complete event after grueling event with a combat load the whole time and at best 3 hours of sleep a night. each event is normally a course of about a mile or so where you have to rush (move under "fire") climb obstacles carry "wounded" run, and then engage targets. then to top it all off you are given 3 MRE`s (each MRE=1200 calories so uhave likeonedayoffood

the vichy government then helped in force the germans out of North Africa and then there was a US and Brit army`s who invaded italy together. Then let`s see when we landed on D-day (and the british who you said were already winning but hadnt been there since 41) the US took 4 beaches more than any other nation and had the most resistance. We also did the majority of the airborne ops. 290,000 americans died and you call it for financial gain, you lost 357,000 pretty close to ours. so STFU

no, we declared war on december 8 of 1941, on japan and on december 11, 1941 germany declared war on the US. Not to mention the fact that the UK and France both abandoned your allies, You let Austria be annexed, (remember the "peace in our time" speech") then you let Poland be invaded after you told them you would give them military aid, then you ran out of France when in was invaded, real impressive... The only reason you survived is because Germany let you... It`s a fact

you "let them"? yer your right we did in fact on the way out we said why dont you kill a few thousand of our men on the way out.
we gave poland aid and fronce surredndered in like 5 seconds. and thousands of british, australian, french and polish soldiers were killed at dunkirk.

some aristocratic german officers wanted Britain & France to help them in a coup militaire against madman Hitler, but Daladier and Chamberlain refused and had peacetalks with Hitler, at this times the British-French armies were still stronger then the Wehrmacht, then as it was to late, at Dunkerque the brits were lucky to be able to retreat to their Island, I heard that a lot off Canadians & Aussies were helping you guys so you weren't alone & you weren't proud the krauts caught you pantless...
